Great shoe, but strangely, the brown shoes feel slightly more narrow than their black counterparts. Not sure it would deter me from ordering again, but something to keep in mind for those that have slightly wider fit than the norm.

These shoes are very comfortable. However, when I put in my orthodics, the back of my heel kept slipping out when I walked...I wish it could be a little better.,,

Stylish shoe that fits true to my foot. I needed a wide shoe and they delivered.

I'm very pleased with these shoes. I needed a nice looking dress shoe for my work at a local college, but that would also stand up to long walks in the city which I take before and after work and on my lunch breaks from time to time. They took a bit of breaking in around the ankle but within a week they were perfect. Really great support and zippy feeling on walks.

A really solid shoe. Can't go wrong with this one.

Great quality, obviously. Unfortunately, these aren't nearly as comfortable as my old pair. They don't fit as nice either, but this is as close as I could get to my old pair. A little disappointed, but I'm still confident the shoes will last and they look great. Please bring back the old versions.

the toe was narrower than I can wear even in a xw and the next size up would be too big I am disappointed that the shoes were apparantly worn before ! There was considerable wrinkiing behind the toe cap , they were laced and this all didn't just come from someone trying them on !

The leather is some sort of fake bonded leather that started flaking off at the heel.

I'm not sure how much more time I will spend wearing these shoes. I have owned them for 16 months and have worn them to work for 7 to 8 months in total. If people are looking for the Suffolk Cap Toe (same look, same price point, same comfort system, but discontinued) and want the equivalent, I recommend you keep looking. I am still alternating every other day (for over a year) between the Branning (hoping it will eventually break in) and a pair of Suffolks (nearly to the point of disintegration) because the Branning are refusing to break in to the point of being anywhere near where the Suffolks were after a few weeks. I know that some reviews say they have a very short break in period. I don't know if they had issues manufacturing some or if something has changed since I bought them last year, but that could not be further from what I'm experiencing. Smell can also be a factor. I know what you are thinking. This guy has smelly feet and he is blaming it on the shoes. I do not have this problem with any other pair of shoes I own. If I ever wear them for more than an hour, I can smell them when I take them off and it is not good. In conclusion, I recommend you look elsewhere for a comfortable shoe, I know I am.

Seemed comfortable in the store. And, I already owned an XC4 pair of that size which were vry comfortable. On first wearing, the leather cut into my ankle and scraped away the skin. Not sure what to do now. Can't tell if the shoe will soften up or my scars and callouses will make up for the sharp sides.

Unlike my previous XC4 that had great cushion in the back of the heal, these cut into my heel. Fortunately, I took them off before I left the house after only wearing them for 10 minutes and used another shoe. I was in pain all week. Please bring back the original XC4 that had the upper back cushion (like wearing sneakers).

Very discouraged by the quality of this particular shoe. I always considered Johnston & Murphy to be a high quality product. However this shoe has started to fail after less then a year, and very limited use. The leather is starting to peel off the shoe exposing a unfinished material below. Unwearable at this point other then maybe mowing your lawn. I have an email to J&M and we will see how strongly their commitment to quality really is. At this juncture I would not recommend anyone waste their money on this particular shoe.

This is the second pair where the sole began to come apart after a few weeks. I counted the first as a fluke and returned them, ordering an identical pair because they were so comfortable. The exact same issue (sole peeling away ) happened again. It's the shoe and they have quality issues with production. Avoid.

Buyer beware! Loved these shoes initially, but they're falling apart after only 4 months of wear, which is absolutely unacceptable for shoes at this price point. The leather began to chip almost immediately at the top of the shoe, and now the rubberized sole is already beginning to detach (which can't be resoled). I'm not sure if it's a quality control issue or what, but I won't be replacing these with another J&M.

I returned these for two reasons: first, they were not dressy enough to wear with a suit; second, the pair I received were clearly used. There were scuff marks on the leather, the outer left corners of the heels were worn, and there were pebbles trapped in the ribs of the rubber soles.

The shoes I were sent were the wrong shoe altogether. They were in a box marked as the ones I ordered but were a different color and a different cut

The first pair of shoes I bought were good but these new ones are giving me a blister above my heel and I feel like it compressed the vein in my foot every time I take a step and the side of the shoe hits my ankle bone when I step.

Shoe feels padded and was promoted as the most comfortable shoe in their line. The shoe is too uncomfortable to wear. They initially felt fine for the first 10 minutes, then they put blisters on the toes of my left foot. I bought two pairs at the same time. The first pair I took home, the second pair they mailed to me. They felt fine at first, but both pairs put blisters on tops of the toes on my left foot. I tried again with Band-Aids a week later, they are still too uncomfortable to wear. A shame at these prices.

This shoe is designed to be worn with or without the insert. When I remove the insert, for the sake of wearing a thicker sock, the shoe rubs up against my ankle in a painful way. I hope the shoe breaks in so that this does not happen, but so far no luck.
