These boots are AMAZING! After this year's polar vortex I decided it was time to get myself some warm, waterproof boots. I couldn't be happier with them. They are lightweight making it easy to run around in the snow and play with my kids. They are also really nice and warm. I can wear just a regular pair of socks and my feet stay perfectly warm. I love the adjustable strap at the top of the boot to prevent snow from getting inside the boot near my calf. I was worried about sizing...it seems the reviews were mixed on if they were too big or too small. So I did what any logical person would do...I ordered two sizes lol. I ordered an 8 and a 9. I usually wear an 8.5 in gym shoes and a 9 in boots. (Uggs and crocs I wear a size 9 and they fit fine.) The size 9 Sorel boot was the perfect size. (Fits just like my other shoes that don't come in half sizes.) My mom liked my boots so much that she wound up keeping the other pair. She's a size 7.5 and said that the 8 is a good fit on her. Hope this helps! I don't think you'll be disappointed in these!

I'm prepping for a trip to Norway, so I was looking for the warmest snow boots I could find. I wear 8.5W in Merrell hiking shoes, and B-width boots or shoes almost never fit well. For comparison, I had MEN'S Baffin Colorado boots size 9 (from another retailer) and women's Kamik Snow Valley boots size 9. I judged these boots on 3 factors: fit in the foot and leg, their "walkability", and how well my snowpants worked with them. Fit: The Sorel fit my foot and leg surprising well, and that's with wearing a handknit wool sock. The Baffin boot also fit very well, and was nice and squishy too; very comfortable. The Kamik boot was too snug, but it has a removable sole liner, and taking that out helped a lot. But, some of the cushion was also removed, and I'm concerned that some of the warmth would also be lost. I decided to try the Kamik boot because another reviewer said these worked for her wide feet. So, while I agree these are probably wider than most B-width boots, they're not wide enough for someone who must always choose wide-width shoes. Walkability: Both the Sorels and the Kamiks (sans sole liners) were very nice to walk in, much like a hiking shoe. But, since the Sorels fit with the liner in, there's more cushion, so standing still in the Sorels (which I'll be doing while watching for the Northern Lights) will be more comfortable than standing still in the Kamiks. Walkability is the major drawback to the Baffin boot; the ankle area is stiff, and it's almost like walking in a ski boot. That boot is highly recommendeded for snowmobiling, and the extra support and protection is necessary for that sport. What makes them hard to walk in makes them amazing to stand in, however; it's like wrapping your feet in a squishy, warm, lofty quilt. Fit with the snowpants: Both the Sorels and the Baffins worked great under my snowpants. What made the Baffin hard to walk in also made them the easiest by far to put on; I literally just stepped into them--no hands required. The Sorels took a little more work and two hands to put on, but since they don't require lacing, they still go on very fast. There's a cinch strap at the top, too, to help keep the snow out. The Kamiks have a dense fake fur cuff on the outside of the boot, which was very hard to stuff up under the hem of my snow pants. They also have laces that require tying. Looks/style were not one of my deciding factors, but I have to say that the Kamik boots would look very good with leggings or skinny jeans. The other two boots look like they don't care what else you're wearing; they're there to keep you warm. The other two look remarkably like each other, in fact. In the end, I decided to return the Kamik boots and keep the Sorels, which fit and walked like they were made especially for me. I might also keep the Baffin boots for just playing out in the snow. But, a 4th factor in boot shopping is how much room the boots take up in my suitcase, and it's the Sorels that will be going to Norway with me. Of course, I will pack some items inside the boots, but the more compact boot leaves more room for souvenirs.
I'd also recommend:

I was stationed in Northern Maine and I worked Law Enforcement so had to be outside in all conditions. Our squadron bought us all Sorel boots. If they were good enough for the military, they're good enough for me

I bought these for my wife. She absolutely loves them. The size was probably a full size larger-she usually wears a 7 and the 6 fit perfectly.

I did a lot of research before buying this boot. I work all day in snow in the Sierra Nevada town of Mammoth Lakes and need a lightweight boot (each boot weighs about 1 1/2 pounds). My jobs include standing for hours in snow, walking through slush and snow, and hiking in snow without snowshoes. With one pair of medium weight wool socks, these boots have performed excellently, keeping my feet dry and warm. They have a well-defined Vibram sole that keeps its traction on most icy surfaces (in worse conditions I use boot chains). I wear a size 9 1/2 women's narrow and purchased the size 8. There is plenty of toe room and though the heel is a little wide, there is no movement of discomfort in the heel. I am a happy camper and will buy this boot again, when and if mine ever wear out.

When you really need boots, and they have to be warm, and they have to keep your feet dry, these are the ones you need to get. And don't get carried away with ordering up a size. These Sorel Alpha Pac II size 8 were roughly the same size as the Baffin Snogoose 10, except that the Sorel Alpha Pac tow box was even wider. I especially recommend these boots for anyone with a wide foot or very square toes. By keeping the lacing low to the ankle, these boots are extraordinarily easy to slip on and lace up. Now, if you want boots to wear in the city that will look classy, try another style or make -- these aren't ugly (in fact, the racing stripe is kinda cool -- but no one would call them elegant. However, if you need to walk the dogs for miles in the Vermont winter, you will be the leader of the pack in the Alpha Pak II.

Love these boots they do run very big though. I usually wear a 7.5 but order these first in a 7 way to big and then a 6 and they fit very nicely. Also I have big calves (17") and these fit me!!!!

Outstanding boot. Terrific warmth, even if I slip it on to walk the dog in the morning without socks. Tread design is well done, provides the best traction I have found. Highly recommend!

slight big since no half size offered and quite wide, fine with socks. Cozy warm feels like a slipper inside, not too bulky or heavy, reflective strip is awesome ( I walk a dog and is often dark), traction seems great too--NO COMPLAINTS so far. Definitely measure your foot, USE CM scale and order accordingly

I wanted a pair of real winter boots that would allow me to to stay out in the cold for an extended period of time. Well, these are it! I finally took them out on the snow and cold (25F) and my feet were nice and toasty. I am so happy! I am also glad I read the reviews, I normally wear a size 7, I got a size 6 and they fit perfect.

I had bought the Glacy Explorers for my winter trip to Michigan the other year ago, and they kept my feet warm in the cold, but I discovered they did not keep my feet warm for extended periods in the snow, and could get slippery. So for this year's winter trip to Michigan, I purchased these Alpha Pac XT Boots based on the reviews of how well they do in the snow, and, yes, they lived up to the reviews! They made my feet and body feel secure when walking in the snow, and they kept my feet warm as well! I appreciate the insulation, and the comfortable EVA midsole - thank you, Sorel for that comfort! So I will use Sorel's Alpha Pac XT Boots for snow and freezing cold temps, and Glacy Explorer boots for those dry winter days when there's no snow, or freezing temps outside. My feet are normally a size 6, and the size 5 Alpha Pac XTs fit me just right. The Alpha Pac XTs are easy to put on and pull off. I will take them with me again on my next winter trip to Michigan!

I purchased Women's Alpha Pac XT Boot for my wife. She loves how "toasty" they keep her feet in these Minnesota winters. She wears size 7, and only has slightly extra room in her heel. They were great when we went snowshoeing the other day

Boot is very high quality, but I wear an 8.5 in hiking boots and also used the size chart provided on the website, which said I would be an 8.5 in the Alpha PAC boots. The boots only come in whole sizes, so I considered ordering up a size to a 9 because I knew I would be wearing thicker socks. After reading the other reviews saying they ran big, I took a gamble on an 8, which was still too big (seemed to fit around the foot but floppy on the heel). Got a 7 and with a sock liner and thick moutaineering merino wool socks, it was a perfect fit. So I would recommend buying them far enough in advance to have time to swap them out if you need to. Other than that tiny problem, no complaints!

I just came in from shoveling snow in a wind chill of -9 and my feet couldn't have stayed warmer. Like others said, you don't need thick socks at all - I had on a pair of white cotton footies! The boots run large (at least on me); I wear a US size 7 to 7 1/2, but got these boots in a US size 6. I wish you made gloves!

Okay, so I WANT to rate these high, I want them to be perfect and amazing so bad... but i am slightly nervous how they're going to turn out. FIRST, I ordered down a size like all the reviews said. I wear an 8.5 and I ordered an 8. (PLUS I have another pair of sorel boots size 8 that fit perfect.) I HAD TO RETURN AND GET THE 9! Not sure how that happened when most of the reviews said opposite. Oh well. The part that really concerns me is that when i walk around the house in the boots (I don't want to wear them outside yet in case i need to return plus our snow is gone now) i feel like the felt liner is bending and digging into the back of my ankle. I'm concerned that after extended wear it might rub and create a blister. UGH! Or maybe it will soften up and not bother me, BUT my gut says otherwise. There's only one way to find out. I wish SO bad sorel didn't discontinue my FAVORITE pair of boots: the SNOWDRIFT. They have a reinforcement in the back to keep the boot from bending/giving behind the ankle. That boot was seriously the BEST, PLEASE BRING IT BACK SOREL

Even after reading reviews and ordering a half size smaller (didn't want to go too small because tight boots equal cold feet), these boots are still too large. I even wear my thickest socks! Not only that, but they are definitely not going to work for negative temps. Down to 5 degrees if you're active, yes; beyond that, no. I would return them but don't want to hassle with the added cost. I won't be buying Sorel again.

Pros: - Definitely keep my feet warm - I think they look cool - Reflective stripes work like a charm - Awesome traction as long as it's not 100% ice - Easy to tuck pants down into - Plenty of space for thick winter socks Cons: - Perhaps a little too much room for thick socks - Pretty heavy (but that's expected for winter boots as warm as these) - Takes a long time to dry out once wet (often from sweat) (this is also common for winter boots) - Calf strap is too short to use to tighten and ends up coming out of the buckle, both of which then flop around - Ankle bungee cords don't stay tightened once you start moving - Removable liner has no apparent replacement for sale (these boots might be old enough that they don't make them anymore as per usual with older models) - Liner wore all the way through at the ankle before the end of second season :( I like these boots and I still recommend them to friends, but never without explaining why I won't be buying a replacement pair when the time comes (which is disappointingly soon). I have faith in Sorel, but the liners on this boot were a real buzzkill.

Going to Antarctica and needed waterproof insulated boots. Ordered 4 pairs trying to find a pair that didn't leak. The left boot of each pair leaked significantly when immersed in a sink full of water. Leaks from the outside seam on the top of the foot.
