Oh my God, I wanted to love these boots SO much! They looked very much like another pair of Keen waterproof boots that I had worn to death, but were discontinued. When I saw these on Zappos I jumped for joy! Yay! A new Keen rain boot! I walk everywhere rain or shine - 20+ miles a week - and so a proper pair of rain boots are so very important to me. I tried them on and they looked really good, and I wore them around the house for one evening to decide if they were keepers. Ouch! They hurt SO badly! They were stiff and dug painfully into my inner ankle. In fact the next day my feet were in bone crushing pain! I can't possibly keep them, and so I am sad to say I must send them back. Why oh why did Keen ever discontinue those other boots? I suppose I need to move on to another brand in preparation for the rainy season. Sorry Keen!

I, too, was super excited to see this style back from Keen. My old pair of Winthrop boots were the best thing that ever happened to my feet. I walk almost 20 miles a week - Rain or shine - And proper rain boots are no joke. I saw these, ordered them immediately, and promptly sent them back. Why oh why did you change them, Keen? These were so stiff and painful! How about this: Bring back the older model, and I will buy a pair in each color to celebrate.

I was SUPER excited to see this boot available again. But when trying them on I knew immediately they were totally different. Much much stiffer and uncomfortable. They felt a smidge higher too. I dug out my old pair to compare, when I put them on, they were so heartbreakingly comfortable and I realized how much I miss those boots. The new version just isn't right. Too stiff, too roomy and too high. Why, why does a company do this? Make an outstanding boot, discontinue it and replace it with an inferior version? I am sending them back and continuing the tiresome search to find a boot that offers close to what the original Keen Winthrope once was. Thank you Zappos!

I have 2 pairs of the original Winthrop WP boots and LOVE them! I was so excitd to see them come back but the new ones are not the same quality or fit. These are very stiff and cut into the inside of my leg, although they are not too tight. It's just the angle and the stiffness causing lack of flexibility when I walk. My old ones are very soft leather. The removable footbed in the new boots is made of a flimsy material, while the old ones are leather and more cushioned. Comparing them to the original boots, the sole is a little narrower in the toe and heel. Very disappointed but will wear them around the house for a while and see if they soften up.

I was so excited to see Keen offer the Winthrop II! I wore the Winthrop I until they disintegrated, and they were still comfortable. They were by far the best boots that I have ever worn. I ordered the Winthrop II the moment I saw them, and ordered expedited delivery because I could not wait to put them on! They arrived today. I immediately noticed how wide the foot was and how fat the calf was! Keen has apparently stopped shoeing thoroughbreds, in favor of clydesdales. I have never been so disgusted and disappointed! This is such a shame. Keen has gone from five star reviews to zero.

I love Keens and ordered these because I needed snow boots. They look stylish in the picture but are blocky and stiff when they are on. For the price I need to love them and I don't.

What a disappointment. These boots are stiff, too large in the ankle and lacking greatly in insulation. In fact, they have almost no padding. Really poor design in a winter boot.

Lori here again. I wrote my glowing review previously of this boot-the ones I had ten or twelve years ago and wore all the way to 2012. I posted it, and then I read the others :o...now I too must find another boot. Thanks for saving me the trouble of buying them and sending them back. Where in the heck am I going find a boot that is virtually waterproof for walking through huge puddles of tropical rain that have turned into cesspools of oil and swill in urban parking lots, hold up to urban street riding, dirt and rock driveways, parks, mud holes, etc, and still look cool for the office? It's very hard to find a boot that is comfortable in Florida in the nine months of summer, but that one was. Maybe the research done for the boot showed women have fatter feet and ankles. Or maybe they were so well made the first time that they lasted too long.A poor excuse at best.

I wore these boots everywhere for several years. I wore them to work and stood in them for ten hours at a time. They stayed comfortable even in hot Florida summers. They were water resistant in torrential rain. I finally had a wreck on my motorcycle and only the zipper got broken when the bike fell on me. My foot survived with only a small fracture, and I was able to walk on it after I tore my cast off (then they gave me a walking boot instead) They and other Keen boots I own make good riding boots.Best urban survival footwear ever!

I am an old school Keen lover. I was so glad to see these boots because the older style footboot really fit my foot well. They were even wide enough for the my super wide bunioned feet! Yay. However, the upper was not quite wide enough for my calves. I could zip them up but they were too tight to wear comfortably so unfortunately back they went. My calves are about 16.5" for reference.

I love these boots! I was so excited to see this style come back that I ordered them right away. I usually hem and haw for months and then find out what I want is unavailable. A friend of mine has these and when I saw her with them years ago I searched all over the internet and only found a size way too small for me. Good job KEEN & ZAPPOS! They are a bit loose, maybe a 1/4 size large (if that is such a thing), but they are comfy and will work well with think socks without feeling too tight.

I too am a lover of the old Winthrop boots. My original pair wore out last fall and I tried almost every boot Zappos had to offer trying to find one I loved as much. I spent last winter bootless and very disappointed with Keen (why the tight calf and narrow footbed in all your other boots). Imagine how excited I was to see they brought them back! I tried them on and was so happy. The other reviewer is right, the design has been messed with a smidgen (why oh why?!?!). But there is nothing else out there that comes close. So I am going to keep them and love them. Thanks Keen for bringing them back. I would be even more grateful if you would just stick with your initial design.

I'm sure they are very comfortable but just didn't fit me. These were too tall for my leg and/or my calf is too fat. I'm 5'1". Back they go. I love Zappos!

I am one of the many who had the original Winthrop boot, who loved it to death, and mourned when replacements weren't available. Today I am happy that the Winthrop boot is back. I am happy that they used the somewhat original wide Keen foot bed. I am happy that the leather on the upper part is wide enough to fit my strong calves. I am happy that it is waterproof. I am happy that I didn't need to break them in. I am happy that on my very first day of wearing them I received TWO compliments! Thank you Keen for not making any drastic changes to the perfect boot.

I love these boots and have the first Winthrop in pinecone brown. They so comfortable and I get tons of compliments on them. My feet are wide but my usual size 8 has plenty of width in these boots. The color Tortoise Shell is much darker in person and the leather is slightly distressed. I'm so happy to get another pair in case I wear the first pair out.

Really comfortable, and runs big! Lots of volume, almost too much for me in the instep and heel, but love the wide forefoot. I wear a 9 normally, and am going with an 8.5. As someone else mentioned, they feel not quite a half size too big.

I was also disappointed. The picture looks like my old Winthrop boots but these new boots are poorer quality. They may be more waterproof than my old ones but they're also less comfortable. The warm felt lining has been replaced with synthetic fabric. The fit is also too loose especially in the ankle.

Very disappointed! Like many of the other women who have left reviews here, I too am a Keen lover and Winthrop fanatic. I still have my old Winthrops and absolutely love them, although they really ought to be retired. I was so super excited that Keen decided to bring back the Winthrop, however they have not done it justice. The ankle circumference is way too wide and there is a ridiculous amount of space over the midfoot area- in other words the shoe has too much volume and my foot just ends up pistoning up and down within the shoe as I walked around in it. To make it worse, the material is very coarse and ends up tugging on your foot, not allowing a full stride comfortably. Overall, the material is too coarse, too stiff, and there is way too much volume over the foot and around the ankle. I really really tried to love them, but had to return them because of lack of comfort and the compromised style. Really hope Keen takes the feedback from their customers to improve the boot next year.
