This boot ( Stone engineer ) felt so good as soon as I easily slipped them on , I threw the box away . By far the most comfortable pair of boots I have for my motorcycle . They might even replace my Blundstones for walking around . I only wish I coulld afford another pair while they're on sale .

This former Doc Martens devotee sought a pair of new, classy, badass footwear. Normally a size 9 in Doc’s (a UK brand traditionally), I thought an 8.5 would suffice. Nope. Stepping down to 8 with still adequate room to spare around my delicate girly feet, I can wiggle my toes and move freely. Of course, the laceless design contributes to this liberating feel as their shaft circumference must be wide enough to slip into. Still, I considered Frye’s lady models which are more snug with a narrower shaft circumference for my skinny ankles but neither of those models’ soles offered the same level of sole traction as these Stone Engineers. Do ladies not need traction? Bizarre. And these Stone models just grabbed me. But not inappropriately. Anyway… Inner heels were initially pinching my own human heels though they loosed up after a couple weeks. As a relatively clumsy human who dwells in rainy environments, the Stone Engineer’s soles offer adequate traction but sans deep treads for pebbles to annoyingly lodge themselves into. This is essential. The soles seem constituted of a harder rubber material which do not flex much like if you step on a small rock they will not conform to the rock’s shape. Flexible enough for walking, this somewhat rigid action feels a little awkward for me since my old Docs soles are softer… but my Docs are significantly older and worn so perhaps the sole material will soften a bit after some time. So take that evaluation for what it is. The experience does contribute to an authoritative solid feel though. I like solid. I have not attempted to adjust the buckles because they are fine as is. How to comment on the Engineers’ width? They seem of average width, neither narrow nor especially wide. Folks with extraordinarily wide feet might have reservations though. This footwear loosens after some time but only a certain amount. Straight from the box they are quite ready to wear, offering liberal movement. Rounded toe design is attractively classy to me, neither squared nor obnoxiously pointed like pirate or cowboy boots. Just the right amount of chunky heel for me physically. Some taller Frye items had way too much heel like disco heels. Inside soles do offer mild cushioning as standard which is always a positive. I can press down and feel a mild softness. Do not expect running-sneaker level cushioning but for a pair of casual boots right from the box, it is worth remarking. Arch support again seems average to me, neither board flat nor hilly high. Higher arched humans would seemingly desire more support. Makes sense for Frye to fabricate their items towards an average fit considering the bevy of add-on soles available. In fact I may do that as I prefer some extra cushioning. Sophisticated, minimalist design. Badass inspiring vibes. Quality construction that cuts sexy lines, beautifully characterful deep patina that wasn’t merely painted on…Over my Docs these Frye Engineers seem simply more… refined, mature. They are not the most comfortable pair of footwear I can imagine but if you live life solely according to superlatives, you're bound to be disappointed. These do the job satisfyingly. Yes, these boots are fabricated of real leather. Yes, I am a tree-hugging vegetarian attempting to live benevolently. I can’t save everyone. In fact, my Engineers still smell attractively of a high-end leather shop. (Complements optional brandy and cigar if desired) Having worn the same 14-eye Docs 95% of the time all year, this is not a wear-once-a-year-for-special-occasion acquisition. Every day is a special occasion. These Engineers will see plenty of action so that easily justifies their price and then some for me. I need to wear something that inspires me creatively, satisfying physically as well as emotionally. These Frye’s accomplish that. In fact, I walk with more confidence in them. Perhaps this sounds silly to you. But it’s valuable to me. Peace.

The perfect boot. This is my third pair of stone engineers. Not because they wear out but for different uses. One for the barn, one for the road and one for going out. I get constant compliments on them, they are super comfortable and supportive and I really feel good when I wear them. Like another customer said, these make me feel good physically and emotionally and give me more confidence when I wear them.

Out of the box comfortable and very true to size. I generally float between a 9 or 9.5 depending on the toe of my shoes and boots, the 9 was the perfect call. The leather itself is very high quality and pretty thick. The gold Frye logo is a nice touch. Of course there is that break in period since these are leather boots after all. I recommend thick socks and bandaids! Well worth the money!

Originally ordered a 9.5 and had to return for a 9.0 - which was exactly no big deal as always from Zappos. Boots are great and the price was definitely right. Love the look and they feel like they'll last forever. The leather has a worn in look right out of the box which is very cool, just a little bit of natural brown showing through the black on the toes and heel. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase.

This is a follow-up to a review I posted June 21 2018. In that review I commented that the width was snug fit. After a very brief break-in period, these boots are extremely comfortable. Much cooler than the lace up boots that I've been motocycling with. Soles and heel grip asphalt well. Fairly easy to put on/take off boots. Luv these boots.

Excellent quality well made boots. First pair of frye boots and definitely won't be my last. I always wear boots my whole adult life these boots were comfortable right out of the box. Pics dont do the boots justice much better in real life. Found them here on zappos a lot cheaper in cost than others

I've been searching a long time for a good looking, well made, comfortable pair of motorcycle riding boots. Did I mention comfortable? This is my second pair of Frye boots in less than 3 months. After wearing the first pair regularly for a couple of weeks, they seemed to get more comfortable each day. I knew then I had to have the Engineer boots for riding my motorcycle. After a few rides, I am equally satisfied with this pair as the first. Also love the tumbled lava stone finish.

I had been trying to find the perfect biker 'engineer' boot, and had failed with several earlier inferior versions from other makers. They either fell apart or were not comfortable to wear walking around and off the bike. I took gamble with these as I ordered them on line and had a friend bring them back to the UK for me. But..oh boy am I pleased. They have exactly the right profile I was after. Not too bulbous in the toe, no fancy pants 'Cuban' type heel. Incredibly comfortable and feel absolute quality.

Regardless of brand or type of shoe, medium width always has worked for me. These boots are quite snug. I’m hoping they just need a break-in period. Good styling and materials. I believe this boot will last a long time.

They broke in nicely, sized appropriately. The toe is round, allowing for a roomy toebox.
