I bought the Thorium as my first insulated jacket. I thought it may be too warm after reading some reviews but when worn with a simple base layer, this is all you need. I was warm and dry from a few spots of rain. The outer is durable and the down keeps you toasty warm.

Love this jacket, the shell material is nice and robust feeling, has a matte finish. The inner lining is satin silky feeling thinner material. Very comfortable. Feels like a sleeping bag. The jacket has a ton of down insulation and feels very filled out and not under filled like some jackets feel. My new favorite jacket!
Ordered XL at first. Fits roomy. Downsized to L. Its slightly snug but much warmer. 220 6'4"

Bought as a present - 6ft 2 tall and slim build and the medium fits well. I've still got room for a jumper underneath. Good arm length, lightweight and a really warm jacket - I have hardly stopped wearing it!

I purchased this jacket to replace my Cerium LT that unfortunately was either too tight in the medium (around chest area) or way too big in a large. I simply love the Thorium. It is not as fitted as my other Arc pieces, but it is so warm! I run cold and I can't believe how warm this jacket is. It also fits nicely under my Beta shell making it perfect for all sorts of weather and temps. I also appreciate the sturdier fabric than the Cerium. Lastly, the pockets are a dream for keeping my hands warm. Love this jacket - the only improvement would be a slimmer fit, but, hey, plenty room for layers if needed and it still doesn't look overly baggy. My boyfriend complimented the fit of this jacket straight away - especially how it lays on the back.

Bought this to replace my Atom Hoody which I love but is quite old and wearing out.
First impressions are great. Bought medium and am 6'2" 165. Happy with fit. Have had a few days near 0 Celsius and have just worn a t shirt underneath and it's very toasty.
Have no doubt will perform great when real winter comes.
Plan to use it as a mid layer for skiing and winter camping and as a stand alone on chilly fall and spring days.

Super comfortable, and warm. Fits very well. If you're someone like me who is in-between sizes, def go up 1 size on this.

Great lightweight jacket that is warm, and cuts the wind. Ripped my first Thorium and just bought a replacement.

I bought this jacket one year ago. It provides fantastic warmth and breathability. It is also very lightweight and portable. The gold on black color scheme looks great.

I purchased this in 2020, and it's made me enjoy those cold winter hikes! I'm easily chilled & can wear this with the Kyanite Fleece & Zeta SL Shell in -20C & remain very toasty! :)
I've noticed you started making XXS in some clothing items, and would most definitely purchase this a second time if this size became available! I was drawn to Arc for the elegant & petite cuts & find the XS still a bit oversized for my frame.
Thanks for making an incredible product Arc!

Have had my Thorium for a year. I'm always freezing & live in a place where it can be colder in the summer than in the winter. This jacket gets a lot of use and has held up well, only showing minor marks where sharp dog claws have dug into it with force. It hasn't snagged on branches, hasn't burned when embers hit it, and hasn't held the smell of campfire for very long. Only surface cleanings so far. Overall very happy with it and the fit - nothing funny/abnormal about the one I got. I'm 5'2", athletic build with broad shoulders and the XS fits with lighter layers. For heavier layers underneath, I'm getting a S.

This is one of my favorite arcteryx jackets
Pros:
Super warmcan easily wear with just a t shirt underneath down to 20s F and lower with more layers. The fabric feels durable and reassuring, especially compared to my cerium LT. I really like the neck coverage with the hooded version.
Cons:
It's puffy, and I can barely fit it under my beta LT of the same size, so that's something to consider. It's heavier than my cerium LT, so if you want to minimize weight, that's also a consideration.

I use this on cold days under my shell for ski patrol and have put over 50 days on it and it's still like new. Durable, warm, great quality and even good as stand alone jacket.

I bought this jacket a few months ago as an all-round that I could wear walking the dog around town and everyday use. I typically run quite cold and this jacket has surprised me time and time again with keeping me warm and cozy, even during minimal activity (gentle walking). On frigid days (-30 Celsius), I pair it with the Covert Hoody and I'm practically overheated. I live in a very windy place (SW Alberta) and this jacket is seemingly near impervious. The only complaints are that while the neck cuff is high and cozy when zipped, it's a bit annoying (won't fold down) when unzipped. It's also a bit overkill (too warm) for running errands (i.e. running indoors from outdoors or being in the car), even on the coldest days.

I've had both Cerium's and Thorium's for a long time. The Cerium down pieces are excellent used as midlayers. They have more delicate face fabric so it's better to keep them inside of a shell of some kind (goretex, waxed jacket, wool, etc).
The Thorium is my favorite down layer from Arc though. It has a tough face fabric and you can wear it as your outer layer. It's also still very packable. A phenomenal all-around down puffer. As with the Cerium it's extremely warm.
Size up so that you can layer a little bit underneath and for a bit of extra coverage. You won't regret it.

I bought this jacket in November to replace my Mountain Hardware 550 down jacket. I was nervous buying it as it was considerably thinner than my MH. I debated between the Thorium and a Rab. After the temperatures we have had in Northern BC the last 4 weeks, I was ready to post a review. This jacket is very warm! I wear it with a teeshirt up to -20C and provided I am doing light activity, I am quite warm in it. I hike with my camera. As the temperatures really dropped these last 4 weeks, I was still skeptical. I went out at -35C with a long sleeve Merino 200 and at -48C with an Under Armour Cold gear long sleeve. I am very impressed as I never was able to wear my MH in those temperatures without having a fleece under it. By far the warmest jacket I've owned! I like the construction, how small it packs down (half of my previous MH), and the exterior fabric is more of a finished shell fabric than the Cerium, making it a great stand alone! When the temperatures are down, the good is a superb asset and really deals the wind from coming in and cooling you down.
Great job Arc'teryx, this is a keeper!

Excellent warmth and fit. It's very light and feels very durable. I'm 5'8, 170lb, and a Medium was just perfect (not too tight for layering, not too loose).

I am blown away with how warm this jacket is, especially with how light it is. I live in Alberta Canada and this is my jacket all the way to -20 with nothing but a T-shirt underneath. If I throw a sweater underneath I'm sweating. I also love how durable the shell is so I'm comfortable wearing it as a just a jacket or as a mid-layer, whereas the Cerium is not as durable so is just a mid layer. The warmth, durability and versatility makes this a hard 10/10 for me!

I bought this jacket December of 2014 as a Christmas gift for myself. I've since used it all over the country in a variety of weather. For the weight, it's pretty warm, when layered, it's very warm! I live in a place that gets cold winters from the Great Lakes, and this jacket works perfectly for me. When it's too cold for just this, I layer under and over, and I'm good to go. I beat this jacket up A Lot, and to only have very, very minor rips, is impressive. Mostly they're ember burns, but the occasional sharp object snag. When hiking or foraging, I'll often snag branches, thorns, nails, pretty much anything with an edge or point, and I'll cringe thinking I just ripped my jacket. Always impressed, usually just a snag mark or nothing at all. I won't lie and say after 7 years that it's still pretty.. I have 9 patches and dirt stains.. classic! But after 7 Hard years of climbing. Rummaging. Foraging. Snowboarding. Working on my vehicle/house, I have far less patches than I should. That's dope! I I love how light and packable this is. I'll often use this as my pillow on flights to a cold-er-ish destination and also have my puffy ready to go when I get off. I don't use the stuff sack that was supplied, I usually stuff this into the hood or sleeve to pack it. But the stuff sack does keep it smaller. I do occasionally get the random down plume coming out, that's natural with anything down.. I'll just pull it back in from the inside reducing the risk of more following it's way out the same spot. I also like the strategically placed synthetic for this wetter days/nights as well as for fishing in the cold
I chose this one over the atom, cerium, and other names for a few reasons. Warmer than the cerium LT, looks better than the LT and the cerium SV, you don't match every person at every gear store, and it fits well under my shell.
Overall, outstanding puffy! Clean. Warm. Durable. Longevity. And good quality.
The only thing I don't like, is the hood. I'm not a fan of fitted hoods, but I understand and do sometimes appreciate the fit for under a climbing helmet. I purchased a medium, fits well.. standard athletic build with a slight beer gut.. don't judge me

Great and beautiful jacket. Keeps me warm and looking professional. Used it on rainy cold days with a shell jacket for regular walks in the forest. Also for commutes to work. Love the fit. Not too tight and night t too loose. Also does not look overly puffed up for a down jacket
