I read somewhere that Patagonia jackets run large, so I ordered both the X-Small and the Small in this down parka. The minute I put it on, I knew the X-Small was too small for me. (For reference, I am 5'6" and weigh 112; small-busted and no hips, so the XS did seem like a possibility.) But I also live in Boston, where the winters are harsh. And on top of that, I get cold faster than anyone I know, so I am always dressed in layers, starting in October. Even a medium-weight sweater under the X-Small was too much: I felt as though I couldn't move my arms freely. So my opinion is that the X-Small in this parka runs true to size. I think you need to be someone who wears size 0 jeans, or maybe a size 2 at the very most -- in other words, a truly small woman. The size Small was a perfect fit on me -- still had the same figure-flattering profile, nipped in a little at the waist -- while at the same time allowing me to add extra layers underneath without feeling as though I was stuffing myself into this parka. The quality is excellent, and I like the fact that the fill is "traceable down." I also like the fact that the hood is also down-filled -- I'll need that when the temperature really plummets, which is inevitable around here. I am returning the XS and will probably keep the Small. But I'm going to field-test it the next time the temperature here dips below about 40 and the wind whips up. If this parka can't keep me warm on a short walk around the block, it will not pass my test. But I'm hoping it will, as this is a very nice parka that felt great the minute I put it on, with everything (pockets, snaps, etc.) just where it should be.

This is a very attractive coat. Compared to other down parkas, it is the sharpest looking. It is snug however. You could not wear anything bulky underneath which may not be necessary because of the warmth this coat provides. The pros outweigh the cons and the only con is the snugness. I am pleased to purchase items from Patagonia because they are highly conscious awareness of the environment.

If you're looking for a stylish coat that will also keep you warm, this is it. I am a size 10 at 5 ft. 7 and it fits beautifully. So happy I selected this coat. It is beautiful!

This a great down coat. I like the fact that it zips all the way to the hem but is still easy to walk in. It feels well filled (but not heavy or bulky) and warm. It runs a bit small (I'm 5'5" and 130lbs size 6-8). I almost always take a small but after reading the reviews I ordered a medium which fits fine with an average weight sweater underneath. For those with longer arms, this will work well. The hood is ample and well filled also. I feel good about the way the duck down is humanely procured. I'm happy with this coat and recommend it.

Bought this coat for recent trip to NYC. It turned out to be the weekend of the Storm Jonas blizzard. Walked outside all day and never got cold. Best investment ever!

I ordered this coat twice and finally realized that I had to size up for this to fit. I usually wear a size 12 yet at 5'10 I have long arms which is great because this cost has really long arms. The large is form fitting and I would not have been able to wear anything else under the coat. The extra large is really roomy. I'm returning the coat because my husband found the coat less at another chain.

Great coat! Love the two way zipper, makes it very comfortable for sitting in the car. I'm 5'2" and got a size S which hits just at the knee!

I ordered about 7 different long insulated parkas, of various brands and sizes. This parka fit me best, in a Medium (I'm 5'6 150-155). It's close cut, but I can easily fit a bulky sweater underneath, and there's no problem sitting down or driving a car in it all zipped up. It reaches just above my knee, which gives a nice A-line silhouette, and it's toasty warm. I've worn it several days now and have had zero problems with the zipper, which was not the case for the other parkas. The hood is just right - larger sized coats had hoods that fell over my eyes. Yes, the baffling could be tighter or more curved to be a little more flattering, but if the coat fits well in the first place, that will make the most difference.

Great coat! Has more down than the Northface version, the mahogany color is nice and the length is perfect for me at 5'7 and slender frame. Love it and highly recommend it...if you're in a cold, windy environment, this is the coat.

Most amazing coat. Weighs hardly anything, no bulk so you can keep it on in the car, but warm beyond belief. I bought this coat especially because it goes down the thighs to keep my butt warm. I've worn this coat down below zero F and been perfectly warm. It fits snugly with a fitted style, but it works for me. I've owned it now for about four years, and expect to get many more years from it.

I've been looking for a coat and tried on coat after coat, store after store and my hair was a giant static mess each time. This brand has the longer arms so I don't end up w/short sleeves when I reach out or up, I am not long armed by any means, 5'8 130 lbs but every coat I wore besides TNF Thunder and Osito jacket always falls short in the sleeves. I have also been having a hard time finding a coat that is actually warm. This coat solves all my problems and while it is a bit long, it keeps me warm in below freezing temps with even colder windchills, my hands were freezing but that's it. I have noticed that if I go to get into the truck and my jacket is zipped there is a slight restriction of movement, needs additional give at the bottom, but there are also snaps if that becomes an issue. It was between this and the downtown both are great, but this one allows me to wear a sweatshirt or my osito jacket underneath which I love to layer because I'm cold everywhere I go. Now if I could only figure out how to get rid of the static... other than that-love love love this jacket. Watch for sales but it's worth the money! Very pleased.

Most flattering down out there! I am 125 pounds at 5'6" and the small is perfect - it hits right at the knee for me. It is super warm and comfortable. The deep mahogany is a rich deep brown.

This is a perfect winter parka - fitted through torso, but with room for a thick sweater. It is very warm and comfortable. I would definitely purchase again.

I love this coat. I just go back from Scotland where it was very cold, rainy, windy. I was warm and toasty in this coat. I do have to return as a snap on the hood popped off, but I will order another one to replace it. In clothes I wear a size 6. I ordered a size M, and it fit perfectly. There is room for a sweater underneath.

This is a great jacket. The medium was a good fit. But the jacket was too long on me. I am 5'2" for reference and it was down to a bit below my knees. I looked like I was drowning in it. That is a shame because it was otherwise a perfect jacket.

Such a beautiful coat! However, through the torso, the small looks and feels very small (and I typically wear a small or extra-small). The arm length is just right, and the length is ideal (mid-thigh), but it definitely runs small compared to other Patagonia coats I've purchased. I loved the look so much that I wanted to keep it, but for a coat that cost this much, the fit needs to be way better.

Great coat for cold weather. I can feel the cold through the seams in the arms when it is sub 20 F, but overall the coat performs well.

It's very warm. I sized up because I layer a lot in Wisconsin winter. I like the area that comes up around the neck but it is a little tight. The main problem I am having is that the zipper sticks. I have to really work on it to get it up. If it continues to be a problem i will contact Patagonia.

I really liked a lot of things about this coat. I wanted to love it but just couldn't quite get there for the money. It was a little tight on me and a little long, so when I zipped it up there was kind of an indent a few inches above the bottom. Looked too weird. I'm 5'5" and 155 lbs, usually wear a size 12 and ordered a large. It's going back.

I love that there is not a gap between the hood and the collar. I love the length. I love that the pockets zip. It is warm but not warm enough for Minnesota. My Eddie Bauer waist-length fake down coat was warmer. My shoulders and chest are cold, even when it is not windy. I did have to order a size bigger than normal so I can war a thick sweater with it.

This is a beautiful coat - like the style and I think it would be quite warm. I'm an un-curvy 5'3; 118 lbs. I take a small in everything, but people said this ran small, so ordered a medium. I can't even zip it up without a sweater. Its going back.
