North Face is known for the quality of their products and the Recon is no exception. I purchased this backpack in September of last year and I've been very pleased. If you are a student looking for a backpack that is comfortable and stylish, this is the right choice for you. Pros: The backpack has two main compartments. The large back pocket contains a laptop space, which is incredibly useful for students. The front compartment has multiple pockets of various sizes. Some backpacks lack small compartments and leave you digging around for utensils, but this backpack allows you to be organized. There are two large pencil holders to keep your writing utensils organized and mesh pockets that allow for extra storage space for all of your necessities. The front of the backpack has a small zippered pocket that is perfect for holding your keys or wallet. There are two mesh cup holders on each of the sides, which are convenient for holding water bottles or a thermos. This backpack is waterproof and is excellent at keeping your books and computer safe when walking around campus on rainy days. As with most North Face products, this backpack has held up incredibly well. All of the stitching has stayed together and the material is very tough and durable. This backpack has made carrying heavy loads of class material very easy. In the past, I've used backpacks that would make me feel like my back was going to break by the end of the day. This backpack distributes weight very easily, which makes it a good option for students. Cons: This backpack has very stiff padding on the back that takes away from the amount of storage in the large pocket. Although the padding takes away from the amount of storage space, it makes the backpack far more comfortable to carry. Unless you're trying to multiple books around campus, this won't be a problem. Overall, this backpack is a great choice for students who want a nice looking backpack that holds up to the test of time.

Bought this as a gift for my girlfriend. She uses it to carry her computer on a bike commute to work and for hiking/climbing trips we take. She loves all the pouches/pockets for her headphones, etc. The bag seems very durable and well constructed. I'm sure it'll last her many years. When we picked it out online, she wasn't sure how much she would like it, but after using it for a couple weeks she is raving about it everyday.

I purchased this backpack in the beginning of my second semester of college and I feel as though it has made a world of difference in my college experience. Okay, I may be exaggerating, but as someone who can almost exclusively enjoy something only if it is organized, this backpack has helped me enjoy school so much more. It's durable enough to carry my 15 hour load on my back without any seams ripping or zippers breaking and it's variety of pockets make it easy to carry my wallet, post it notes, keys, pens, etc. I no longer carry a purse! This backpack was a wonderful investment, truly worth more to me than I think North Face would ever charge for it.

I'm an education graduate student, bought this for school but can see many, many more uses for it in the future. Would be awesome for short hiking or day trips. Great color choices, great styling you would expect, lots of pockets and compartments. The fleece lined pockets for the iPad and laptop are very plush and soft. The straps curve out by the chest and make it so much more comfortable than other backpacks. I would put the capacity at a medium. I can fit my Macbook, about two notebooks and a large textbook. Lots of room for smaller items in the front pocket and two side pockets. This is the second North Face pack I have owned, the previous one was smaller than my current needs but 15 plus years later it still looks and works great and has been all over the world with me.

The Recon Backpack is amazing. I'm extremely glad I picked this backpack over other backpack brands. The padding feel great and the design I picked (crown blue/budding green) look exactly same as the picture that had been shown. Plus what make the backpack extremely great is that no matter how much I put in, the backpack feel light which is easier on my back. Reading the bad reviews, I was unsure should I get this backpack or not. However the bad reviews was wrong in the end. I'm actually 100% satisfied and happy of the Recon backpack.

I am a student on a large college campus and this backpack is great for carrying around heavy books all day. I love the protected laptop sleeve and that it is waterproof (originally why I bought it). The straps adjust nicely and tightening the ones across the front help to not put so much pressure on your back.

I bought the white/orange version of this book bag. I love the color! It is big enough that I can load all my books in it but padded enough that it is still comfortable to walk around campus with.

I use this backpack for school and find that it has adequate room for all of the accessories that I need to carry with me, as well as adequate room for my books. I am able to fit 2 spiral notebooks, 1 small text book and one large textbook into the largest opening.
