Nice boots, but the lower price I believe comes from overseas manufacture. This is different than Danner's standard assembly in Portland, Oregon. The leather quality suffered. On the very first day of wear, an entire panel on one of the boots cracked completely. Here's a photo: http://imgur.com/Q9Rle7J

Solid leather build. really nice color on the leather too! They're a bit uncomfortable at first. Primarily because the top rivet can dig into your ankle if you lace them up properly. But as they're breaking in, they're becoming more comfortable to wear for long stretches.

BLUF: Do yourself a favor and buy these boots right now. Danner is a craftsman like no other. A true American classic, and their boots are fantastic. Why are you putting time and money into a boot that will wear out? These boots are for real. They will be there. They can be re-crafted, so when one sole goes you can keep the boots going. Danner sizes these EE, but they are a D width, that they say can break into a wide boot. Buy them and start enjoying them. No joke.

These shoes did not disappoint. Look great. True to size. Would highly recommend them. They could use a better insole but that's not a deal breaker.

Great looking shoes. My only issue is that you have to lace them perfectly every time or you will get heel rub or heel slip based on if they are too loose or too tight.

Me: 6 foot 4" averaging 240 - 250 pounds. I bought these to wear to work and on the motorcycle. I'm impressed with these. The packaging and shipping was perfect and fast of course. The boots themselves are very well made. I have size 13 feet and these measure at the sole 4 and 3/4 wide outside, probably 4 1/4 inside. Inside they fit comfortably. These are thin sole (traditional) style boots so don't expect any real cushioning from them, though I have been working on packed concrete floors with thin carpet so I may be biased. As heavy as I am I really missed the cushioning of more modern construction right away. Take heed - if you're on your feet all day you will notice. My toe is about 1/2 inch from the end even though the rest of the boot fits well. Overall I like these. They look classy, wear well (given the above) and are very well made. In time I'm sure they'll fit as well as my 10 year old leather jungle boots. Currently it's a little tough to lace the top speedlace hook. No biggie. I like these very much. IMO price was a little high, but I expect to wear these for YEARS. Not quite as hardcore as your dad's old redwings but they will last. FYI the sole has tiny serrations and exposed stitches on the toe. That threw me. Not sure how durable that will be? I don't drag my toes... Either way - not a mud boot at all. These are just for the concrete jungle. Slippery in snow/ice. Considering the quality of the boot construction I'm wondering if the sole will wear out like a typical dress shoe and leave me looking for a resole. Time will tell.

These are great boots, however, there is no way that these are EE width. A D at absolute best. If you have wide feet and need wide boots Danner EE's will not work across the line. Hopefully, Danner will address this as they are great boots.

Rivets ruin these handsome boots! Fit was great. Hefty and stiff out of the box, but that was expected and would likely have softened with wear. Wife loved the look of them.

I'm so bummed out. These just didn't work for me. I am a woman, 5'10" with a women's 10.5-ish size foot, so about a mens' 8-8.5. The 8.5 was far too big so I ordered the 8. The 8 fit. It was snug but the kind of snug where it just needed some breaking in, which I was willing to do. After a few wears the leather is definitely starting to break in and get softer, but what doesn't work, and is the reason I'm returning--the tongue of the boot isn't very wide, so it doesn't protect your ankle from the exposed rivet behind the speed laces at the top. So the metal rivets are digging into the bones of my ankle and is terribly painful. If the tongue were wider it might help with this issue, but it's too narrow. Also, the tongue slips and slides out of place after only a few steps and I am constantly having to stop, untie, reposition the tongue, and retie. Like every five minutes. I finally decided that as much as I love these boots and want them to work--it's just not worth the fuss. I am a wedding photographer and was hoping to wear these for long days on my feet. There's very little arch support though. I did try them with an insert which did help with that issue but I just feel like there's too many issues with the structure of this boot--I think I just need something else. Chippewa makes a style that is VERY similar to these--the "Service Boot." My construction worker boyfriend swears by his Chippewas so I think I might try those. Thank you Zappos for being so great and making the return process so simple. So bummed--it's a beautiful boot!

These are beautifully constructed boots. I got the black and I love the matte finish. It looks like a handmade boot. It felt comfortable right out of the box. I put my premium blue Superfeet insoles inside and I have no problems. They do not have a removable insole, so I just put the insoles on top of the footbed quite easily. I plan to care for them with the same oil I used on my Red Wings which were so uncomfortable I decided to get these.

Danner needs to agree on a standard last for their shoes/boots. One used to be able to order their boots and know what you were getting. Since production has been moved off shore, it's hit and miss as to what size/width you're getting from them anymore.
