An absolutely great first backpacking pack! I am a backpacking guide throughout the summer and I take groups of teens out for 4 days into the back country. This pack lets me carry anything I need for myself, community gear, and the community gear my teens give up from it exhausting them. I almost always have 2 nalgenes and a 2L bladder as well. This pack and I take a lot of weight on and it does a great job supporting it and not hurting myself in the process. If there was one thing I would take to make me love this pack more is to have the brain convert into a day pack. It comes off, which is cool, but that's it. The times I have been in a position to need it as a daypack I always make a makeshift one with a belt.

I have worn a few ill-fitting packs (including old-school posts digging into my butt) and I when I loaded this with my practice rucking weight I couldnt believe how awesome it was to have a properly fitted pack! An overnight trip with less weight than my practice weight and I considered trail running for part of the hike. I loved how well I could fit everything I needed. The bottom space divider helped force organization. The airflow reduces my back sweat issues, the side water bottle pocket holds things snug. The outside zip pockets on the back made getting navigation and feminine essentials easy. My biggest complaint is I cannot use the hip pockets one-handed. I have to reach over with my other arm to pull the pocket taught, then zip. Which means I have to stop walking because I'm twisting my body so far thus slowing me and my group down and reduces my ability to use the pockets for their intended purpose. In the great scheme of the bag, it's not the end of the world but definitely a consistent reminder of what could be.

Love the fit and adjustable features Should repel water but it doesn't . Pack soaked through and got all my gear wet on the very first trip! I assumed that a pack this expensive would have an integrated rain cover like some much cheaper packs have as standard. Lid should convert to hip belt for short explores beyond base camp. My 20 year old mountain equipment coop serrated pack had this feature and it worked well.
