This is my sixth pair of Salewa shoes. There is not a better shoe in the world market for light hiking or in my case for everyday wear because I am extremely flat footed and the soles of these shoes are extremely rigid. To make them walkable they have a rocker sole. Front of sole is much thinner than the midsole. Build to last and feel like a slipper after a full day walking. I normally wear a 10.5 but always buy 11 in Salewa. You are not just buying a Nike tenny here. These are seriously comfortable walking shoes.

This shoe has a stiff sole, perfect for hiking. Fantastic ankle support and support overall!! The colors are super cool too. Worth the price!!!

Ordered these after researching and trying a couple other styles by Salewa and others. Was still searching for what seemed to be an elusive replacement for Lowa Tempests (which don't fit me like they used to... 4 pairs later).
But, on to the Mountain Trainer GTX: Fit and finish are excellent, with solid construction and intelligent design. They do feel a little short in length, but that seems to be changing as they break in and the heel pocket and upper collar soften a bit. Really like how secure my feet feel in these! The lacing and 3F system lock my foot in place -- no slop, no sliding and extremely stable while hiking some rocky trails near here. They are very stiff when new and have a slight forward rocking motion on the move; which is very like my old Tempests and something I like.
The Mtn Trainer is not a lightweight shoe, but I don't honestly notice the weight. Also, it probably is not for the wide or thick of foot! I have an average width foot which is somewhat thin, top to bottom, and these fit very nicely with a lightwight merino wool sock (Smartwool Phd)
Trying to get them broken in before a honeymoon trip to do some serious hiking on the Isle of Skye and the West of Ireland next month. So far, so good -- they feel like winners!

This shoe is very stiff. The toe pocket is a bit narrow and because of the overall stiffness of the shoe, it is not forgiving if you have one foot about 1/4 size longer than that other. I have to wear thin socks to pull these shoes off. The lacing design is the main reason I ordered these shoes. The metal wire that goes around the heal made me feel like I would have more control over heal slip. Unfortunately, to get tension on that wire you have to tie the laces super tight and that is just too uncomfortable for long periods of time. The look and build of this shoe is top notch, but with the top front of the shoe being so stiff the chances of getting both the left and right to break in with one foot being slightly larger than the other is not going to be easy. I kinda wish the heal wire tension was configurable via something other than the laces on the top of the shoe (like a snowboard helmed or boots sometimes are).

Order a half size larger as these have a hard toe and I usually wear 11 and got 11.5 and they fit perfect. Weird to walk in there is a pivot to go to the balls of your feet. Not sure if that’s a vibram sole thing as these are the first shoes with vibram soles I have had. The soles are pretty tall too but it’s not a deal breaker. Overall big fan of salewa and these ones knocked it out of the park.

I wanted to like these. They ticked all the boxes initially: gore-tex, (some) styling, low profile. brand recognition and overall generous reviews from here to outdoorgearlab. I ordered a half-size down based on recommendations. When they arrived they felt a full size too small. In addition they didn't look great with everyday clothes. Sitting under a pair of mountain hardwear AP pants they really looked like a pair of full-size boots.
I returned these shoes.

This is a ridged shoe. Toe area felt good. Heal would slip and slide causing irritation. Had to return shoes.
