It gets dirty quickly thanks to the material it is made of. Picks up lint and dust easily. Other than that I love the bag and hopefully it'll last awhile.

Very attractive bag. Well designed with comfortable straps and all the pockets you could ever need.
I do find it heavy for what it is though.. It's enough to be noticeable. Honestly I'm torn because I really like the bag, but am not sure I'd buy it again.

It was my day pack while travelling and it survived an hour being intensely sprayed on by the world's biggest waterfall!

Great bag however the abyss version is two toned which was not advertised on the site. Had I known I probably would have gone with the black version. Also I find the zippers not to be of the best quality.

I owned this bag for over a year. It saw me through two trips, innumerable bike rides, work and play, ups and downs.
Just before Christmas, it was stolen from my car in a smash and grab. I tried to get by for a while with an older backpack, but after life with the Uptown, it proved impossible to bear. It grated on my shoulders and back, and nothing felt right.
I purchased a replacement quickly. It feels good to have this bag back.

The backpack is great. However, I submitted an online question to customer service and a reply was never received.

This is the best bag I've seen out there for a TSA Friendly bag. I travel a lot and need that easy of use. My only downside to the bag is that there isn't a super easy way to get the laptop in and out for daily use.
Don't get me wrong, it's not much of a hassle at all. Before this I had the TSA Command Messenger. That was the easiest to get the laptop in an our and I got spoiled. For this bag, it's barely an issue. I do really enjoy this bag.
There is more than enough room for everything I carry around: hard drives, cables, adapters, etc. Seriously though, I don't think my bag has ever been this organized. It helps that there are plenty of pockets and organizers. One of the reasons that I like this one is that it's the pockets and organizers are super well thought out.

This is my second TIMBUK2 bag and both have been great! My first bad I wore holes in the bottom from years of use. This bag is just as great except the zippers are sticky, I am hoping I just need to break them in a bit.

I wanted this to be a backpack I could use for meetings, travel, and hauling kid stuff. I love it but I'm just too short for it. My 5'4" frame doesn't fit the shoulder straps and the pack falls below my back. Although I think it's a good-looking backpack, I'm returning it with the hope of finding a different Timbuk2 backpack.

I love the bag, it is what I was looking for to carry all my stuff without being too bulky.
The only downside was it showed up with a stain right on the front of the bag.

The bottle opener is made of a softer metal than most bottle caps (feels like aluminum). This leads to it getting nicked and scratched whenever it's used to open a bottle. I feel like given enough use the bottle opener will become rounded off and useless. Other than that, best bag I've ever owned.
Also, I'm a bit skeptical of the TSA friendly features. Most screenings I've been through require the laptop and bag to be in individual trays. I feel like I would have to explain to the TSA agent how the bag works, which may not be worth the hassle. I haven't taken a flight yet, but I surely will within the next few months so I'll see how it works.

The bag is very comfortable and all of my belongings have survived many rainstorms in it. I find that I will overpack the bag, but that is not for lack of room, its just my personal crux. It's very comfortable, and all of my school books fit inside of it with no problem.

After having looking around for ages, I finally found a fabulous bag in the Uptown Laptop TSA-Friendly Backpack 2015. It has just the right number of pockets, is durable but not bulky, relatively lightweight when compared to similar models, and good-looking (I'm a woman, so I wanted something that was stylish without stripping all the features just to make it look more "feminine"). I also love that it has that tiny zippered pocket at the top where I can throw in small stuff like my keys, earphones, chapstick etc. for quick access without having to dig around.
However, A HUGE BUT.... the only thing the bag is missing is a trolley handle pass through at the back!! I wanted to use this bag for both grad school and travel. It fulfills the school part, but misses the mark as a second carry-on piece for travel because there's no backstrap to attach it to the back of your luggage handle. This would literally be the most perfect bag in the whole world if it weren't for that feature I'm dying to have. I don't want to be lugging a heavy, filled-up backup on my shoulders through big airports that have a lot of walking, especially when the bag has a laptop (Macbook Pro 15") inside weighing it down.
So a request to the Timbuk2 product team: PLEASE add a luggage backstap to this back and don't change ANYTHING else!! I mentioned this when we spoke on the phone too, and you said the reason you couldn't add it was because of the padded laptop compartment behind the shoulder straps. To that I would say, I think most people would be just as happy having a padded laptop compartment in FRONT of the shoulder straps (like the other compartments), to have that other major feature added. Also, I recommend looking at what other companies have done in their travel backpacks, to have that feature. The only difference is your bags are better-looking / overall nicer, so add this one feature in, and you win!

I bought this bag for a trip to Portland. I wanted something that would be a breeze to get through airport security and would hold all of my electronics while we walked around the city. Bag storage and pocket selection where great. The only downside was the straps. I don't consider myself to be a large person (5' 11", 190 lbs.) but I was very uncomfortable carrying the bag all day long while it was fully loaded (14" Chromebook, Kindle Fire, 2 sets of Bose Over-the-Ear Headphones, Chargers and Cables, Light Jacket). I feel like the spacing of the straps is too close together for my shoulders. The straps would dig in between my pecks and armpits. I tried several configurations of strap length and sternum strap position, but was never able to find a comfortable position. I love the bag design and construction (seems extremely durable), but I do know how much use it will see.

My first impression of this pack is that it's a little heavy and stiffer than I really wanted. The laptop compartment is heavily padded, which is great if you carry a laptop (I don't), but adds weight. It also makes it much more difficult to pack inside a suitcase, if you're trying to condense luggage.
Other than that, the pack is a great size for my short stature (5'1") and nice and roomy in the main compartment. It's perfect for a weekend trip. Some of the separators in the smaller compartment seem kind of useless to me, and there's no key clip(!). But the easy access pocket on the front, the cell phone pocket on the top, and the water bottle holder all seem just about right.

Overall it's a very nice bag. I will admit to being a little disappointed, yet that is based on my past purchase. I bought a comparable bag, from Timbuk2, 7ish years ago and love it! The stitching was finally coming loose after all that time of DAILY use. This new bag just seems not quite so bullet proof. The zippers are slightly thinner, the top carry handle is just a strap, not the padded handle of the past. The shoulder pads are thinner, the straps and buckles thinner and smaller... Don't get me wrong, it's a nice bag and yes these maybe little things, but they add up. You buy from Timbuk2 not for the price. You buy from Timbuk2 for the quality. The "old" ones were GREAT bags.

I use this backpack for airplane travel. It looks great and functions very well. I would prefer not to havt quite so many pockets. There's a middle section I didn't even find at first, and don't really need--extra fabric/layers just add more weight. The only thing I really found disappointing was that the top of the straps are narrow and not well padded, so that they chafe against my neck unless I'm wearing a collared shirt. But it's just a little annoying, not really painful. All in all I like it a lot. My other timbuk2 backpack has no exterior pockets at all and this one is a big improvement for travel. I especially like the small pocket in the top where I can keep my phone for easy access.

I feel like I could stuff half of my belongings in this bag and it would still look good! Lots and lots of storage, and I feel like my laptop is well protected in the back pocket. I've gotten a lot of compliments on how nice it looks, and it's a lot more professional than most bags too. It's been through some light rain successfully, but I can't speak to downpour levels. My only complaints are that the bag falls over when you put it down, I'd love another water bottle pocket, and the straps are a little far apart for some women's shoulders.

After traveling by air with the Timbuk2 TSA messenger, I chose this backpack to remedy a few things I found lacking. From the outside in, the vertical pocket on the front is perfect for stashing a wallet making it easy to access your ID and make any necessary purchases. The first inside pocket is large enough to hold an iPad to make it easily accessible. That is in addition to the dedicated tablet pocket in the very back. The water bottle pocket is of sufficient size to hold a 750 ml Camelback or a large bottle of airport-purchased water. The lined zip pocket on the top held my phone perfectly and made it accessible even when under the seat in front of me. The various sections will hold files, power cords, drives and a small change of clothes (or, as I happily learned - my purse). Very thoughtful pocket designs. The only negatives I found were that the top and side carry handles are just nylon webbing - no padding. This does cut down on bulk but not comfortable for anything more than carrying down the aisle of a plane. The laptop pocket JUST holds a 15.6" (older) laptop. Looking forward to a newer model that would fit with a little more ease. Finally a note about the red accent color - it is definitely more burgundy than red but also more professional looking than a bright red would have been. I do recommend the contrast (over all black) as it makes finding the phone pocket, etc. much easier.

I use this bag daily to take my laptop, lunch, and other stuff to work. There are plenty of compartments (including a drink holder on the side), the bag is sturdy yet comfortable, and the bag looks good. My only complaint is that the main compartment is a bit narrow, so it's tough for me to fit my small lunch bag in there. It can hold a lot in the compartment, but it's just limited in the depth (front to back).

There are only three things I wish was different with the Uptown:
(1) that it doesn't tip forward/away from the straps instead of towards it
(2) that if it does tip that way, the top handle would be mounted on the wall on that side instead of the shoulder-strap side - it's awkward to carry since the weight is actually forcing the zipper to open up when you're carrying it by the top handle
(3) that it wasn't so boxy - the rectangular corners on the zippers will cause it to wear out faster

I would give this product a 5 star rating except for it tips and falls forward every time I set it down. Very front heavy, even with the very back areas filled up with books and laptop.
