Extremely disappointed. I own 12 pairs of Birkenstocks, including sandals, footprints, clogs...I've tried these and a pair of Memphis in the past few weeks. Birkenstocks has decided to go in a different direction, got rid of the footprint line of shoes that actually fit, to make shoes that are extremely narrow. I can't say how much it's driving me nuts, I can no longer purchase Birkenstock shoes that fit.

These did not fit me the same as my other Birkenstocks. They were made in Portugal and did not have the same insole feel as the German made shoes (even though the insole was made in Germany). The leather was much more stiff as well. The styling looked great in pictures, but looked like bowling shoes on my feet. I've always been looking for real comfortable sneakers that had the same, deep healed Birkenstock feel and I thought I these would do it. Sadly, they had to go back. Thank goodness Zappos has fantastic customer support!

I have worn Birkenstocks (almost exclusively) for over 30 yrs. I know when buying a closed shoe birk I need to go up a size. I found these to be comfortable out of the box and required no breaking in. In fact I wore them for a full 12+ hrs shift at work and had no trouble with them at all.
As far as some folks complaining about the style or how they looked on their feet, STOP it!. For years faithful Birkenstock wearers did not have the choice of styles we do now. I wear this brand for comfort and support FIRST and style second. That's what they are known for and do a superior job of providing.
I wish I could find this shoe in canvas in my size(42).
I will be purchasing another pair in black leather.

Really bad quality control on these shoes. The leather was super hard and stiff on the left shoe and soft on the right show. The right shoe felt great, the left one burrowed into my ankle when I walked. It took me pulling the laces lose the flex the tongue back an forth to realize why the right shoe was so much more comfortable. Really sucks because everything else about the shoe was amazing, but for the money they should feel better.

Listened to reviews and ordered one size bigger, but they were sadly too big. Zappos doesn't carry this shoe in white in my regular size.

Exceptionally disappointed in the Birkenstock Arran. The shoe sizing is dissimilar to Birkenstock sandals. Ordinarily, I wear a 46(M) in sandals; the 46 in the Arran was far too narrow. The depth of the leather upper is also exceptionally shallow; while the shoe appeared long enough for my foot, I couldn't even pull it one because the leather upper is too short and far too stiff. Finally, the cork footbed bears no resemblance to the classic Birkenstock footbed. It's rather flat and thin with less arch support compared to sandals. If you're looking for a similar style, Camper Pelotas are fantastic, albeit not meant for very wide feet.
