I'm a nurse, so I wear these shoes four days a week, twelve hours at a time (actually more like fourteen, counting my commute). I bought my current pair from a seller in Germany three years ago, before they were widely available in the US. For me, these are true to size. I wear an EU 40 in Birks sandals and bought the 40 in the Arran. It fit perfectly without break-in time out of the box. The arch support is excellent, and the footbed, while firm, still has enough give to keep my feet from hurting at the end of a long day. My feet are very wide at the toes, but the toebox on these shoes accommodates my feet without any problem. The heels don't slip. These shoes have worn beautifully. I'm about at the point where I need to start thinking about replacing the insole some time in the next six months or so. A bit of black shoe polish every few months keeps them soft and flexible. They're immune to all the hideous stuff I've spilled on them (blood, D50, and much, much worse). The laces stay tied once they're tied. The one negative might be that they make my feet look like a cartoon character's--but that's not a negative in my book. I love the Arrans and will buy them from here on out.

They are not wide in the front like all normal Birkenstock shoes are. The flap is long that touches my ankle.

I have now had these shoes for a year and have worn them for 40 hours a week. These shoes have held up very well with the miles I have put on them. I would recommend them to anyone who is constantly on their feet. I am now purchasing a second pair as I have worn out the souls of my old ones. These shoes fit true to size with the sandals I already own. I have wide feet and I had plenty of wiggle room for my toes.

Be patient with the break-in time with these shoes!! Give it two weeks and you will be rewarded with a versatile, classic sneaker molded into a custom fit for you. The first two weeks I felt the stiff tongue rubbing my ankle, the heel cup irritating my heel, and they felt stiff as boards. I had read negative reviews, and I was concerned. But I kept on wearing them, remembering how my Birk sandals felt quite stiff at first too. And magically, they changed from irritating to SO COMFORTABLE. They also are nicely water resistant. I love them! Wish they would make a cute tan suede!

Following the advice of some reviewers, I ordered up a size to 41 from my usual Birk 40, but shoe felt odd with insole hitting in the wrong place. The shoe is great, but I am returning for smaller size.

It's me again. I totally take back what I said, the Arran is fantastic! My mom suggested adding a thin plain white insole that you can get at any drug store under the Birkenstock removable insole to help it 'fit' better, I said okay. Wow! It made a terrific difference, all of sudden all of the negative points were gone. And the leather has softened considerably with one week's use. I'm in love!

These were true to size for me, but I'm normally an 8 - 8 1/2 and in Birkenstock sandles I get 39 narrow. I listened to the reviews which all said to order up a size, but the 39 regular fit perfectly, with a little room for socks. These are very comfortable for this lady who has had 2 foot surgeries, supportive where needed. They can be worn to work as shoes, or casual as sneakers. I'll get a lot of from these!

These are awesome shoes and I hope Birkenstock keeps making them. I bought the white leather and I love how I can wear a classic old fashioned looking sneaker with my capris and dresses but have the support and comfort of a birkenstock footbed. Plus they make my wide feet look dainty.

I wanted a pair of lace-up Birkenstock shoes for good support while walking. I already had several pairs of the newer Birkenstock boot styles, so I knew I needed to go up one size to the get length and width more comparable to my Birkenstock sandals. What disappointed me about this shoe was the shallow toe box. The top of the shoe pressed on my large toe, so that even trying the shoes on for a short period was uncomfortable. Sadly, I had to return these. Fortunately, Zappos makes that extremely easy to do.

I was looking for a walking shoe with the usual Birkenstock support and feel. I usually wear a size 40, but based on some reviews which stated that this style ran small, I ordered a size 41. I found that fit a little too snug and ordered a size 42 from a different site since it was not available on Zappos site. The size 42 gives me the feel I was seeking!

These are so disappointing. The arch is lower, the leather too hard, the tongue too long and is painful at the front of the ankle. I was so ready to love them, but the discomfort is too obvious. They are adorable looking though, I am sad that they did not work put for me.

These shoe are cute, but they run a little narrow compared to Birkenstock sandals. There is less arch support and a shallower heel cup than in the sandals, as well. Also, the tongue is a bit long, and the heel space is really tight when the shoes were laced up. Not the usual Birkenstock feel, but a nice looking shoe. Would love to see some Birkenstock shoes that incorporate the same support as a soft foot bed Arizona.
