Positives: VERY lightweight and stable, not oversized, did not catch on vegetation and trip me, easy to wear for long periods (ten days walking with no break in), not bad about picking up rocks/dirt in the soles. Great on uneven terrain. Seem durable and were easy to clean up. "Foot feel" is more like a sturdy athletic shoe than a hiking boot, which is just what I needed, but won't work for everyone. Insole is completely removable and seems more durable than most. Negatives (all subjective, not cons for me but perhaps for others): Heel is prone to slip no matter how you lace them (heavy cushioned wool/nylon hiking socks fixed this for me.) Ankle support is not very good (but due to prior injury firm ankle support is a no-go for me.) Insole provides no arch support at all, which perfect for me as I was able to place my custom (very hard) orthotics underneath the removable insole and have a very comfortable, profoundly supportive, customized fit. Probably not well suited for "serious" hiking over large rocks, etc. Summary: Love this boot for my purposes, but it will not be for everyone. If you need a "serious" hiker, try another model like the Comet 3D GTX, which is heavier and much stiffer in the ankle, but still waterproof and lighter than many other boots. This was my first purchase of Salomon, but it will not be my last if they continue to hold up well.

Great fit out of the box. In a running shoe, typically the Asics GT 2000 2, I wear a 12.5. I only require moderate/neutral arch support and this is what this boot delivers. I wear it for some P90x and liked it so well it is my every-Saturday shoe for hiking, gardening or whatever comes along with snow, rain or sun. In fact I'm going to have to order another pair I enjoy them so much.

Pros: - Lightweight (nice change from heavier hikers) - Quality stitching/construction (better than most in this price range) - Waterproof Cons: - Too flexible for moderate+ hiking - Laces don't stay tight - Size was slightly big, but sizing down by half was too small (subjective Con) They're described as a light waterproof hiker, and they are truly light, however I think they are more flexible than an appropriate mid-height hiker should be. If the ankle is too soft, you're not getting much support, and coupled with the flexible sole, I don't see much point in even having a higher cut here. I suppose if you want the ability to splash through deeper streams/puddles it makes sense, but really how often is that situation going to come up? Additionally, I found in both sizes I tried on, that I had to really crank down the laces to prevent heel slippage. This isn't a major problem in and of itself, only it becomes one if the laces won't remain tight. Due to the raised metal-bar eyelets, the laces don't have enough friction to stay in place. This means they glide easily when tightening, but as soon as you hit the top hooks and try to tie a knot, they slack up. I think all Salomon would have to revise to prevent this would be to change the second eyelet from the top into a second pair of hooks, and maybe set them below the the other eyelets. A hook there would lock your lower lace setting in place and also pull your heel in. I came really close to keeping these, because they felt more comfortable than most of the boots I tried on previously, but ultimately I felt these few issues outweighed their positive attributes. These are boots that don't really know what they want to be or do. They're like everyday-wear high-top shoes that are trying hard to be hiking boots instead. Only, you can get everyday walking shoes for less money. That being the case, I don't think these fulfill a proper role in the shoe "quiver", so I decided to return them. It's still a well-made shoe though (love the Salomon brand), so you might want to try them (Zappos makes that easy).

I bought this boot for work and for hiking. I work as a Flight Medic and use this boot as part of my uniform and let me tell you they AWESOME!! This boot is comfortable and doesn't take much to break them in. I also use them for hiking here in AZ and they are very supportive and make the hike a comfortable one. I highly recommend these boots!!

The title of my review says it all. These shoes are comfortable, waterproof, great tread. Useful for literally anything. I wear them hiking, hunting, and for everyday wear. I initially bought them just for hiking, but loved them so much I started wearing them all time. Mine are not even close to being worn out, but I will buying another pair soon. I hope the 3rd generation of this shoes lives up to it's predecessor. Just an fyi I wear a 10.5 US in most shoes this one fit me better in an 11 US.

These shoes are excellent and I'd recommend them to anyone! I needed a shoe that was comfortable, kept my feet dry and warm, but didn't make my feet sweat from the inside. Incredibly, this shoe accomplishes all three! The shoe is light and soft to the step. My feet have been dry while walking in the snow. And most importantly, my feet have been warm and don't sweat while moving around a lot in the cold temps of Alaska. Really proud of Salomon for creating such a quality product.

I have had 2 pairs that I have absolutely destroyed. I have used 1 pair a year. During this year i have subjected them to unimaginable things. Even though they are retired, they still are used as yardwork shoes. They are an extremely comfortable and durable shoe. Feels like a running shoe but with added protection. Excellent.

I have owned these for about 2 months now and I have really enjoyed wearing the boots. There was no break-in period where the boots were uncomfortable to start. From day one they were easy to wear all day and do a lot of walking around in. I liked them so much I purchased an all black version to wear at work.

Think the boot is fantastic!. Comfortable, not too heavy and great looking. I'm a tall lady with ,yes, big feet. Can't ever find anything attractive in my size. This boot is perfect for men or women and looks really terrific!!!

My husband complained of the arch support when he first tried them on:( I told him to walk around the house for a bit since the shoe had positive reviews. Now, he loves them and has adjusted to the support provided by the Ortholite insoles.

These shoes are my standby. I have purchased at least 4 pairs of these. They are comfortable directly out of the box. This year I hiked the Appalachian Trial in a pair of these shoes and the XUltra Prime. In roughly 2,200miles, I never once got a blister. The shoes always exceeded the milage-expectancy. They offer incredible support without being rigid. I would recommend them to everyone. Also, if you are an active person and can break one of these down in less than two years, Salomon has proven to stand behind their shoes time and time again. Their warranty policy is great!

I wear a men's 13 narrow. I am a longtime fan of the Salomon Speedcross 3 and hoped this boot would be cut as narrow. Unfortunately, it isn't. It's a great boot, but I will have to return.

I am a woman who typically wears size 11½ width B or D depending, a size that not many brands carry, so I find myself finding better fits with men's sizes, specifically men's 10. That being said, these are great! I agree with a reviewer who said the shoes would fit better on narrower rather than wide feet; these are just a tad bit narrow on my somewhat wide feet. That is the only issue I have with them. These shoes took hardly any time to break in, and they're lightweight but still provide great support. I have worn them on walks in the park, hikes up rocky hillsides, and around the muddy disc golf course. I think that I could even do trail running in these babies. Plus, they are are great looking. For a woman who buys men's shoes a lot, I often have to sacrifice the look of the shoe for the fit of it, but not this time! I got the bettle green/black pair, and they are so nice looking! Not just for the guys. Women, having a hard time finding the right fit in women's sizes? Try these, they are great!

This is an awesome boot felt like I had it for years now break in. I had to go up just a half size. I have had this brand for several years. I won't buy any other!

These are comfortable, light, and warm. They are definitely better for medium feet than wide feet though. That will not keep me from wearing them.

Feel like slippers, no break-in period. Wore these all winter long in this year's historic snow in Boston. No problem in the mud season that follows. Will get another pair as these wear out.

Not a perfcet fit out of the box but I'm learning to like rhem and I can tell they're going to work out well. I actually bought gels one day cause I have wanted a little more cushion. i have since taken them out cause they made the shoes fit a bit tighter. I decided to take out the gels and now they're a spectacular fit. I think the gels helped to strech them out. I look forward to see whered these shoes will take me.
