I really like this hiker. I have been comparing it to the Oboz Firebrand II Bdry ASIN: B00439GYQ8. The sole is just a little thinner on the Tamarack, which is okay. The Firebrand has a really thick in the sole. I have also been comparing it to the Bridger Dry high top hiker Oboz Bridger BDRY ASIN: B00FJ2LDXM. That is a great hiker as well. Tamarack is just a tad bland in appearance if that's your issue. The decision comes to these questions: do you want a high top hiker or a low hiker? do you want a very thick sole or moderately thick sole? All are great and will last many years. I suggest trying all three, and see what works best. Zappos has the best return policy.

After 6 months of wear I can tell you this will be my first and last pair of Oboz. I was directed to this brand for the arch support and it met requirements for a waterproof rugged trail type shoe. This shoe broke down very fast and begun to develop a bad odor due to little to no anti microbial treatment. The waterproofing has also failed and shoes are leaking. I have confirmed it is not due to perspiration as well. Also for what these shoes retail at they should have Gore Tex and not a knock off membrain. The soles have been the one thing that has held up the best. The arch support insole provided great support but after 5 months of wear it too is ready for replacement. Simply put I have worn several different brands and have found others that have outlasted these by two to three times as long. I am sure this shoe could be improved and still has great potential but as it stands right now they don't make the grade.

This shoe is outstanding; it is both substantially very well built and has understated elegant style. It is comfortable and durable throughout my days in the office; I wear it with Powerstep inserts as it is designed for hiking not running. A definite keeper.

They felt very narrow, more like a D width than an EE.

Very good shoe. Only issue I had was hiking steep downhill the toes felt some pressure from sliding forward, but next time I will try tightening the laces a little more. Overall I recommend this shoe for rocky hikes, haven’t tried them near muddy hikes yet

These shoes are very comfortable, they breathe well. I’m returning them because they are dangerously slick on snow and ice! Also never quite broke in.

My husband tried these shoes on in a size 14 regular width at REI. REI didn't have them in a 14 wide in their store or on their website, so I ordered them here. I missed out on the 20% off REI coupon, but there aren't many waterproof light hikers available in 14 wide, he is very pleased with this purchase.

A great crossover shoe. Very comfortable right out of the box, although I use replacement insoles. A superior quality to my previous Merrill Moab's.

My first pair and couldn't be happier. Wore through most of the fall and (mild) midwest winter with great traction, comfort (stayed dry) and a bit of style (e.g. I can wear almost anywhere). The sole is firm but not hard (like my Lowe's) and promotes a natural heel-toe rolloff. The shoe does not breath too much so I stick to mid/light-weight wool and usually unlace a bit if I'm going to be indoors for awhile. And unlike many alternatives...they are Made in America.

These were suppose to be EE width, but were not, and size was not true. Plus, made in Vietnam, really? They're small people, they make things too small

I discovered Oboz in Montana and brought them back to Cosa Rica and never regretted it. I am a coffee farmer in Costa Rica and spend a lot of time walking through the plants, the grasses and the gravel roads. It is very wet here during the growing season and the first part of the picking so my shoes have to be of extremely high quality and be able to take a lot of wet conditions and slippery climbing. They are super comfortable and feel extremely well made. My only negative is that they are a birt heavy so after along day of walking (sometimes more than 7 or 8 miles!) I start to feel the weight.

I am an "AT" through hiker & I was leery of ordering shoes online because it can be difficult if they do not fit. Zappos return policy decided it for me! The shoes fit great and am walking miles with no problems! Thank you Zappos!

I'm always looking for comfortable and supportive shoes, that look nice. I've had PTTD surgery and a big toe knuckle clean out of bone spurs and arthritis, plus plantar fasciitis several times. So, I'm no stranger to foot problems! I tried a pair of the Tamaracks today, at a local store and must say, they felt great, right in the store, which isn't always the case. Since, I really don't need these right now, I thought I'd wait, but wanted to see what others had to say about them. The only thing I did not like was that the front portion of the shoe, where the ball of my foot is and straight across the top of the foot, toward my little toes, felt a bit tight. (I have a support tape bandage on my right foot, at this time, which may have made the shoe a bit tighter, but the left foot, felt the same). The sales person had me go up from a 10D (which is what I normally wear, even with my custom orthotics) to a 10.5D and that made a big difference in the fit. Of course, the heel felt a bit less snug, but it did not slip at all when I walked. The stride was quite comfortable and these shoes seemed seemed to give me a bit of a push, as a walked forward, which I liked. These are not rockers, but the front part of the shoe seemed to be more curved, than I'm accustomed to. My suggestion would be to stick with a 10" but get a wide in this particular shoe, rather than upsize in length. The thing that prompted me to try these on was that I felt they had superior support to prevent pronation...which they did! I recommend these for that reason. It's the pronation, that gives me my most of the foot pain I have. The included arch support seemed superior to most foot inserts and felt pretty good, if I had to rely on them in a pinch. But nothing compares to custom made orthotics, so I would definitely use them instead. As for lastability, I can't say, but another reviewer said they don't hold up, which I'm sure is true for most inserts. If they can be bent, then of course, they'll break down... I would recommend these, at least after a first impression.

The Tamaracks have Superior support, which to me means little torsion flex. Minimalist, overly flexible shoes wear my feet out in a short time. Walking over rocks and other uneven surfaces is handled very well with the Oboz. The soles are not as sticky-grippy as most other hikers, which should help them last longer. On the other hand that clould make these Oboz a little more slippery when wet.

These are the third pair of this model I've owned. I wear them for work so about three hundred days a year. The soles last about two years but I push them a little longer. A week or so of break in is needed. I wear orthotics but have used the inserts provided by Oboz without any discomfort.

I have wide feet with high arch. Bought these in wide and they are just barely wider than a typical shoe but seemed to work. However, toes hitting front of shoe as they are 1/2 size small. Zappos didn’t have larger size in wide. Too bad, if you have a high arch and need hiking shoes these are great.

Unyielding outsole, narrow toe box and through the shank despite being "wide". Would not recommend.

I bought the shoes specifically because they were labeled as "wide." Perhaps "wide" in Vietnamese is an "A" width, these were NOT wide!
