I bought these to replace my 995s and they do NOT have the great arch support I usually get with NBs. My left foot (the worse one) has been having pain on the bone behind the small toe from just walking across campus in these. In fact, it's getting so bad that I might just send these to charity and switch back to my old pair. Unfortunately, I'm a 2E width, so there's only 3 pairs of NB shoes to choose from if you want USA made shoes. PLEASE consider expanding your shoe selection for those of us with wide feet! I shouldn't have to trade GREAT arch support for a bit of extra toe width!

Before ordering these shoes, I read the reviews and they were said to have good arch support. As I have plantar fasciitis, that is something that is important to me. I was surprised when I received the shoes that there is precisely no arch support. When I removed the insole, that was a thin foam that with only a couple of pounds of pressure between my hands could completely flatten, including the tiny, and I mean tiny, bit that was pretending to be arch support. You can imagine what putting your body weight on it does. That's right, your feet would squish it completely flat, flat, flat. So, after I removed the insole to check out the arch support, I saw that not only is the removable insole not supportive, but the inside of the shoe (midsole?) beneath the removable insole is completely flat. Flat insoles and flat midsole means Chucks are good for 20-somethings who have yet to suffer the pain of life manifested in their feet. Skip these. My search for good shoes that have decent arch support continues!

I am a long time Zappos customer and have worn all of the versions of this shoe for 15 years. Like many reviewers, I much preferred this shoe in the 1122 and 1223 model. I was not a fan if the 1540 at all. Being that there are not many shoe options for an over pronator with a narrow foot, I decided to give the 1540V2 a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It fits more like the 1123! It isn't as wide and bulky in the toe box as the original 1540. I do agree with some other reviewers that the heel is too wide and the colors choices dismal. I am in my 40's and have had to chose fit over style for years. New Balance has some great colors and would love for them to realize that over pronators don't want geriatric looking shoes. Now, a message to Zappos. For the first time, I had to get these shoes from another site. You didn't offer them in the 2A width. I have always been a loyal customer and have found your customer service to be second to none. I have notice a considerable drop in the number of narrow shoes offered on your site. Please don't forget your narrow footed customers.

I really wanted this shoe to fit well. My heel slipped whether my socks were thin or thick. I have a high instep and with orthotics it just wasn't going to be the shoe for me.

While these shoes were comfortable they did not have the arch support I was expecting. But most of all they were too hot to wear to the gym everyday.

I have been buying NB for 20 years. Special orthordics for styles from 1122, 1123 1540 and styles before that. I am very disappointed to see you do not make this type od shoe anymore. I believe I will have to change brands. I see from the reviews you are not getting good reviews on the W 1540v . So it is not just me. Hope you will change and come up with a similiar good solid shoe I have been using for all these years.

This shoe just did not fit my foot. I have to admit that I am hard to fit. I have a wide instep and a narrow heel and wear a size 5 1/2 M usually. One thing which could be a problem for others is that when I laced the last 2 holes nearest to the ankle, there was not enough lace to tit a bow!

These shoes were uncomfortable when I started walking in them. I could feel everything on the floor from the rubber soles. They are nice looking shoes but New Balance needs to go back to more toe room and wider toe area. This one was not as bad as most of their newer lines.

I ordered my usual New Balance size and my feet had trouble “sitting” or the correct term may be “standing” in these shoes. In plain words, they felt “weird” on and even though I loved the colors, they hurt and and felt like they were on the wrong feet (they weren’t-first thing I checked and I wasn’t drinking anything stronger than soda pop). I normally think about ordering a different size on shoes I think are pretty or have colors that I love, but these were a non-starter, literally for any race I may run-which is usually to the buffet line Friday nights.

This shoe did not provide the comfort I need for a full day of work at an elementary school. I ordered the silver/green which had the subtle, less contrasting color scheme. The coloring was fine, but the shoe lacked a soft padded insole and was not very flexible. I went with a Ryka Sky Walk.

Not as comfortable as my 990v4 but I loved the rich navy color. I tried these because NB's website stated that they were for overpronators. Had to return :[

I am frustrated with the latest versions of the 1340 and 1540 shoes (i.e., with 1340v3 and 1540v2). The entire fit of the shoe has changed as compared to the earlier versions on the shoe. For instance, the toe box has been altered to make the front of the shoe too tight and "rougher" on the toes. Yet ordering a wider shoe creates a heel that is too large and hence support is lost and blisters form. I am requesting that New Balance bring back the earlier versions 1340v2 and 1540v1 of these shoes.

NB has always been my "go to" shoe for comfort. I will have to rethink this since my last 2 NB sneakers have been anything but comfortable. I ordered these in a D width but they are much narrower in the toe area than previous NB sneakers I've owned, causing discomfort, yet wide in the heel area causing blisters. For the price I'm very disappointed in the fit and comfort.

I have worn the different versions of this shoes - this last model is not the same - not as much support and has not worn as well. I need the support for my neuropathy and being a senior - cost is a big factor. This show is not a better one and definitely not cost effective for me.

I was wearing the 1128 from thw beginning that changed. Classic 1540 that had good support nothing was wrong with the older version. Only the choice of colors could have been added. This new version support do not have same support as older version. Why change a support that work for the people that could wear the classic 1540. The new version should have the same as the old. Would be nice if you could add the support back for classic 1540 with a variety of colors

I have only worn New Balance for at least 20 years, because of the quality of the shoes and the offerings in 4E width. I now need to go elsewhere because there just isn't enough cushioning; it HURTS to walk in these shoes for any length of time! I have never found that "new models" improve on old, and now they are just plain unwearable. Lovely colors and fabulous wide toe box, but no cushion.

I bought these after a mid-foot fracture as they were recommended. The sole is very stiff (recommended for the fracture), but not completely rigid. I need more arch support, but can insert my custom arch support. Plenty of room in the toe box which is good since my foot is stiff quite swollen. Not the most fashionable sneaker, but not a fuddy-duddy. Overall I'm very happy with them. Oh, and they also came with hot pink lace!

The new version is a step back. The shoe is not as supportive and is wearing out quicker. I miss the black color, too. Luckily I found a company with a stash of 1540 that will hopefully last until the shoe is back to it's former glory.

New Balance has abandoned quality in favor of middle of the road. This is not a good replacement for the 1123. It no longer has the support or quality of past models and they no longer are provding the last information needed to find something that provided the fit I need. They are moving to the sizes that fit "most of the population".

These shoes have zero cushioning. I had to buy gel inserts to make them bearable. I would have returned them but I accidentally wore them outside walking my dog. When I ride the treadmill @ home I prefer to go barefoot instead of wearing them. The have plenty of width but no support @ all. I will never even try New Balance again. I don't know why podiatrist recommend this brand.

I have worn New Balance exclusively for probably close to 30 years now. They are so true to size, predictable and reliable that I can order on line without issues and even have them shipped to me from a store without trying them on. Most recently, I had two pairs of the original 1540 running shoe. I am no longer able to work out due to physical limitations, and I have severe pronation problems with my right foot due to orthopedic issues. My left foot has issues too, but not as severe. The first time I put on the 1540, it was truly the most comfortable, yet supportive, shoe that I have ever worn in my life. It was of those moments that I said to myself, "shoe, where have you been all my life". The shoes were so good that I could wear them for several months without having to put in my custom orthotics. Then the original version went away, and I bought the version two without trying it on, figuring I couldn't go wrong. But wow, was I ever wrong. The new style has no support at all. It doesn't feel even the least bit similar to the original model. Even just standing, my right foot rolls to the inside. Walking in this shoe felt, for me, about like I was wearing sandals. They felt a little narrower, but that was okay. The heel counter, vertically, felt shorter and the sole felt softer and lower. Comparing it side by side with the original, the heel, in the area where the roll bar is, appears a quarter to a half inch lower to the naked eye. New Balance says they made no changes to this shoe other than cosmetic ones, but as someone who is forced to be extremely meticulous and aware of details because of the issues I have with my feet, I know better. I want to continue using New Balance because I believe in them, having worn them for nearly 30 years. But I was forced to explore other options because I cannot wear the 1540 any longer. I exchanged for a 928 walking shoe. I am wearing it, but I long for the support and security I felt with the original 1540. PLEASE, PLEASE bring it back. I was able to walk with the most confidence I ever felt, and I had less foot pain for the first time in many years. Again, please bring back the original 1540. I would be most appreciative. I would have given this shoe one star had it not been for the great experience I have had with New Balance all these years.

I've always bought these New Balance Sneakers in the original color and they were wide and soft on the inside. I bought the new blue and pink coloring May 2017. The rubber is not the same ( has a slight smell) and they are narrow even though I bought the wide width. The inside is rough, not like my other two pair from last year. You must have changed your manufacturer. Will not buy these anymore. Go back to the better quality material from last year and I will buy them again.

I tried twice to order these before they were finally back in stock. Now I wish I hadn't received them. The toe box area is good, and they are stiff enough to help with my hyper mobility and over pronation. But there is like NO cushion on the bottom. Even with my padded inserts in they are not comfortable to walk in for a long period. Had to try them outside to see how they would feel but of course now I can't return them. Will never order this style again. A real disappointment.

I bought these based on many reviews saying they were good for PF sufferers. However, that was not true for me. The sole of the shoe was very hard and the arch support was minimal. I am returning and continuing the search for a great running shoe that helps manage PF.
