These are the nicest boot in this tall boot category for the price. I bought and returned boots for 2 months looking for the right combination of style, size, fit and comfort. My foot runs medium to wide and the medium boots fits very comfortably in this style. If you have a very narrow foot, I recommend passing on these boots unless you use the extra space to wear thick socks. Normally, I prefer a flat or very low heel due to back issues. This boot is so well balanced that the little lift feels great. Leather is smooth which makes this boot look very high end, more like Nappa leather versus pebbled leather. I could zip the regular calf width boot with very skinny jeans but I found the calf a little tight going up and down stairs, so I ordered a wide shaft in the other color. Zappos delivered my reorder in 2 days right before Xmas! (This company is fabulous.) In some boots, I order a 9.5 to get the width in the calf I need, since getting a wide calf boot can mean getting a wider foot and bigger ankle fit. The wide calf in these boots gave me the extra room I need but not as much as the wide calf. So, if you measure a 16 or wider calf circumference, this wide calf may not be wide enough width for you. In this boot, I am keeping the 9M wide shaft. I ordered a 9m regular shaft, 9.5m regular shaft and a 9m wide calf. The latter size fits the best which is in the cognac color in this boot; its a beautiful shade, not brown brown but a burnished brown. Gorgeous. Now, I want this boot in black too. It was not available the day before Xmas but it is today. Here are a few of the other brands and sizes I have tried, hope this helps the wide calf ladies find the right boot: Lands End 9M regular fits best. Fitzwell (only comes in wide width) 9M wide width - runs very width for those that need a wider calf than this boot; Naturalizer Johanna 9M wide calf - foot is a little narrow, calf is a little too wide (I can fit my hand inside the calf on these boots); Remonte Estefania 73 muskat, size 40 , these boots are pretty and lined in flannel, looks a little like a western boot. (I like these Sofft boots better and they are taller); Marc fisher 9.5 m regular fit - these also fit well, a little looser than a regular calf width but not as wide as most wide calf but wider than these boots - Marc fisher are much more casual than these boots - purchased on sale locally - but I still like this boot too. Definitely wide enough for my 15-16" calves and leggings. Not too stiff. Toe box is roomy, too. Love these and will wear them for many years.

Ordered 7M, my calf is 15 1/4 inch and I wear medium thickness knee socks, and these zipped up easily! Very soft leather upper with plenty of toe room. Sole is very cushy and comfortable. I only wish the outsole and heel were closer to the same color as the brown leather. They look and feel good enough for me to order another pair in black. After having ordered and returned several brands of boots I've learned to read ALL the reviews as well as the additional measurements as they pertain to the size of the boot that was measured. I've gone to the website for that brand and gotten their measurements also. Then figured the difference to get the circumference. Generally I figure 1/4 inch per size difference to my size. These boots are perfect. The calves are wide enough to tuck my skinny jeans into and zip with ease. The leather is beautiful and very stylish. I am completely happy with my purchase.

I love tis boot! I have another Sofft brand boot which I also love, so I was happily not disappointed with this style. The leather is not too shinny, and I love the outer stitching. I got the wide shaft. My calf is 16 1/2 inches and these fit perfect with room to spare in the shaft. There are also three little slits with elastic at the top of the boot shaft to help extend it, but they don't spread open on me, so I think a 17" or even 18" calf would fit easily. I wear a 9.5 or 10. I got the 10 and I can wear a medium thick sock and it not be too tight. I hope this info is helpful.

These are great boots! They are so comfortable. I walked all over New York City in these boots- much of the time in the misting rain. They kept my feet warm and dry. And again - they are so comfortable.

I absolutely loved these boots! The footbed was comfortable and the style was ridiculously good looking. Alas, I just sent them back because these are not wide-calf boots. They just aren't. If I could get another 3/4 inch, I'd reorder them in a heartbeat. Sofft shoes and boots are the most comfortable and I really, really wish I could have made these work.

These boots are great! Since I bought them they have become my new favorite fall boot. The color is beautiful and they fit great.

These are great boots made from quality, soft leather. The tread is great. They are very comfortable and you can both see and feel the quality. I love them.

These boots are beautiful! The footbed is very comfortable! There was something that feels like a seam at about the ball of my foot that hurt when I walked. Also this is a wide shaft boot and I need a wide shoe but not a wide boot shaft. It was too loose and bunched up around my ankle.

Labeled as wide shaft but they are not by any means for a larger calf. I have a 16" muscular calf and they would not zip up while I was in leggings. Can't imagine wearing them with jeans. Too bad because the leather and design looked nice and the tread would have been good for winter. Foot bed seemed a little narrow for my wider foot. Order a size up If you plan to wear thick socks. Sending back although I really wished I didn't have to!

These are advertised as wide shaft. The shaft is 14". If that is wide for you, then you are not a full-boned American woman. I cannot imagine what size person would find a 14" shaft wide, unless it was a 10 year old girl built like Pippi Longstocking.
