I bought this as I cycle to work but also needed a bag that was professional, I've had it over a year now and hasnt let me down. The fact I'm compelled to come back here and leave this review says a lot as I tend to go through bags etc like nothing. This bag has joined me all around Europe as well as my usual commute and never let me down once. Amazing stuff.

Love this back-pack/briefcase!!!I had a long search for the needed replacement of my well worn 10+year old "convertible" backpack. This pack is an extremely well thought out design. Plenty of room and works well both as a briefcase and pack-back;Compartments and pockets work well either direction.Use daily for business between different clients-my traveling "File Cabinet". Also recently used as carry-on bag. LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Timbuk2.

Messenger bag is well made and durable. Lots of compartments for pens, folders and devices. Great for keeping organized when on the road again. There was a small glitch when returning the original black bag for the carbon fire model, but Timbuk2 looked after this immediately. More than happy!!

I work in a professional environment in DC. I usually commute to work by bicycle, so I wanted something that I could ride with and look good at work. This bag really hit a home run for what I was looking for.

I'm a graduate student taking classes and working at an internship. While at "work" i use the messenger strap to look more professional but while commuting and walking through the city it's so convenient to switch to the back pack straps for easy maneuvering through crowds. Ive actually stopped on the street and changed straps without having to place the bag on the ground. This bag fits Everything i need: laptop, notebooks, textbooks, etc. It gets heavy but I think that's more a function of what I'm hauling not the bag itself. This bag is going to come with me from school to profession, easily.

I needed a pack that I could carry with an over the shoulder strap or on my back to enable me to lug my computer back and forth to work each day. Since I'm using it to go to work, I also wanted a few extra compartments for extras like snacks, cell phone, notes,... This pack does it all and is really well made. I couldn't have made a better selection. I am much pleased.

I've used this product to carry a 15" MacBook Pro and a Lenovo 1440s, and there is still room for my notebook and accessories/notepad, etc. The only inconvenience is the shoulder strap, slips off easily when wearing a suit, and not enough small pockets for small accessories, otherwise very happy.

I use my bag everyday to carry my computer, camera, and documents. The bags is great because I can carry it it so many ways.... Use as aback pack, carry like a briefcase, or supply use the strap on one side of my shoulder. And the greatest part are all the different compartments making it easy to find my items. The light weight material that it is made from is also a big plus. I would recommend timbuk2 to everyone who is looking for a durable and stylish bag

Great bag that offers versatility, comfort, and plenty of space. Primary complaint is focused on the shoulder strap. While the strap works well when used as a messenger, it struggles to stay onto the shoulder when just being used in a traditional fashion. Overall, this is a great bag and offers tremendous upside compared to many other bags.

Plenty of room, and extremely versatile. I've had a few different Timbuk2 bags, and have always been pleased with the quality and thoughtful design of each. This by far my favorite though. Works for just about anything!

I love this bag - I wanted to replace my messenger bag with something more like a briefcase (i.e. grown up) but that would still work on the bike (I also looked at Jack Spade, Freitag and many others). There are tons of pockets and the hideaway backpack straps are the killer app here - it's three bags in one, with a slim profile but plenty of carrying capacity. I have the camo color, which looks great. Carry it as a briefcase into a meeting, then pull out the straps to wear on the bike; when you roll it off your (right) shoulder, the grab strap is there for your hand to pick up. For some reason my laptop feels lighter in this bag than it did in my messenger bag, which is nice. Wearing a backpack is not quite the same thing as a messenger bag, but I'm liking it so far. Still have my messenger for more bike-oriented days. The only real drawback is that I wish the carrying handle was a little bigger, it would make briefcase use more comfortable. Overall this bag is a winner, thanks T2!

I searched a lot - trying to find a backpack/messenger bag-combo that would be useful for commuting but also look good in business scenarios. Finally, I found the best alternative! I use it as a backpack when I need to carry my work laptop or my chromebook (11"6), or back/forth from the kindergarten trying to handle two kids at the same time. At the office, I switch easily to the bag/messenger bag option. The blue voodoo color is really nice! I do (as others have mentioned) sometimes miss a dedicated place for a water bottle, but so far that is the only con I have found. Before I used to switch back and forth between boring, big, backpacks and more stylish office bags, now I only need one bag!

One of the best bags I've ever owned. Great for day to day use at work, as well as travel. Has a lot of room if needed, but compressed down and stays flat if not needed. Love this bag.

What can I say about this bag? It rocks. As a road warrior, this bag fits all my needs. Backpack? Yes. Briefcase? Yes. Rugged and Stylish? Yes Yes. As far as the reviewer complaining that the zippers would not work when he overstuffed it? I find that funny. Mainly because he overstuffed it. All zippers are difficult to zip when a bag is overstuffed. Buy it. You will love it.

I bought the RAM 2 years back and while i like the concept of a versatile bag it just didn't look good for corporate and if you didn't have too much stuff in it it kinda look lumpy. I have been waiting for Timbuk2 to come out with an updated model and when i saw ACE i just had to give it a try. It fixes many complaints i had with RAM works well in briefcase, messenger or backpack mode. Roomy when you need to pack a lot of stuff but when empty it flattens out nicely. Multiple compartments for people who carry many stuff like me. I have in it 1. Macbook Pro 15" 2. iPad Mini 3. iPhone 4. Umbrella 5. Notebook 6. Pen 7. Pillcase 8. Business cards 9. Cables, chargers Just kept everything well organised and easily accessible.

The Ace Laptop Backpack/Messenger bag is a good replacement work bag for me. It replaced a Dell laptop (suitcase-style) bag that was disintegrating from daily use. It fits my Dell G3 3590 snugly and a bunch of my tech gear, as well as a design book, notepad and pens. I like the backpack's versatility and being able to change it to a messenger bag when I want to look a little more professional or if I'm carrying the bag onto an airplane. The handles and fabric on the bag feel rugged and sturdy and I feel confident in the quality of the zippers. Some negatives I would point out are that the shoulder straps aren't the most comfortable (they are kind of stiff) and the sternum strap doesn't feel like it does much, although they are adjustable (a positive). Also, getting a 15.6 in laptop into the laptop compartment can get kind of tricky because it's a snug fit and the zippers for the compartment only open on one side and the top from a corner of the bag. Plus, the bag feels a little heavy and bulky even when empty. This is the 2nd (second) Timbuk2 bag that I've owned, the previous being the Sleuth backpack, several years back. I still own that bag and when I compare the two bags, the Sleuth feels lighter. All that being said, the trade-offs have been worth it, as this is a great, sturdy, and versatile bag for work and some really quick trips out of town.

Used it for traveling, compact size but large volume was perfect. Pockets are well laid out and grab handles on multiple sides are great for getting through security and out of the overhead bin.

A testament to Timbuk 2's longevity, I used the Outawack bag for over 10 years. A bit worn and fashionably outdated, I had an opportunity to replace it during a sale on timbuk2.com. Seeking something similar to the Outawack, I was looking for a bag that could be used both as a messenger-style bag and as a backpack. I found this feature in the Ace Laptop Backback/Messenger Bag. Unlike the Outawack, the Ace is not modeled after Timbuk 2's traditional messenger bags and does not have the massive front flap that covers the outer pockets. As it's TSA certified, the style is somewhat understated and the two visible outer pockets are easily accessible. Once I received the bag in the post, I found it smaller than the Outawack bag, but it fits my 13" MacBook Pro fine. A 15" laptop could be a taut fit however. It has plenty of pockets and for its size, it's quite portable. My Ace didn't include a shoulder strap as my Outawack did. I heard they included one in the past. This limits the bag's messenger capability but fortunately, I mainly use this bag as a backpack.

Fits everything I need. Perhaps I wish it fit a little more of what I want. I am able to store a 15" laptop and Surface Pro in the felt lined area. My only issue is that the other compartment doesn't have much organization. It ends up being a bit too much of a catch all. The bag seems very durable, all straps are great and there are plenty of areas for carabineers, which are necessary given the smallish size of this bag.

The shoulder strap is top notch. It feels very comfortable, like I could have my bag hanging on my shoulder for a very long time. I haven't tried the back pack mode, but will mostly use the shoulder strap. The back pack mode will be used when I travel on flights without my spinner carry on. Could use some specific pockets for business cards, small things, water bottle holder, but have figured out ways to still hold those things. This bag is an overall very good bag as a messenger bag. It feels solidly built, and is versatile to carry all my tech equipment (headset, power adapter, phone cables, headphones). So far, it's working really well for me.

I Use this as my everyday back pack. It's a great size and has lots of storage pockets inside and out. but from what I've noticed most TB2 bags don't have exterior mesh pockets for bottles. That's one flaw with this item. I also wish the organizational pockets for pens and such was not in the main compartment. on a quick trip I pack 2 days worth of clothes in this bag and I would rather not have to open the main compartment to reach in for a pen or smaller items that I have in those pockets.

I love the bag. 2 little comments that couple be constructive. 1- I found the zipper a little small because i have to open it serval times a day specially when I bike and the roads are a little wet, sand gets in the zipper's way 2- That bring my 2nd thing. And maybe an inch to the bag so my 15 inches computer would get in better and I would ad a fixe rain cover to protect the full bag and the investment in it. That would be the 5th star.
