A nice fit for my slim legs. I have a long foot and am tall and slim -- it has been difficult to find a knee high boot with a good fit in the calf. The Frye Phillip Riding boot is the best I have found -- adjustable buckles at knee and ankle and a relatively slim fit in the calf -- I can still stick my hand down the booth but just -- will be able to wear with tights or skinny jeans without being too gappy. Beautiful quality; flat heel, ankle zip makes the look a bit more streamlined. Looking forward to wearing these with everything this fall and winter. I bought the dark brown which will be a great neutral -- the leather is not distressed so it can be dressed up or down. Thanks to Frye for a great product. And to Zappos, as always, for their excellent service.

First: a holla for Zappos because I must have tried every pair of frye tall boots out there and only kept one. I heart you, Zappos <3 Second: beautiful beautiful. Kept the light grey color. It's a warm gray so goes with tans and browns just as easily with blues and black. Can traverse seasons better than my black boots. I'm usually a 9-9.5. These 9s have room left over for winter socks and that's just fine with me. Really high quality, supple leather that accommodates my 15 inch calves....immediately comfortable. Could be a tad taller as I found them to be just over 16 inches instead of the 17 proclaimed on the site, but hardly a deal breaker. I'm 5'8". Classic style so I can wear them for years. Hooray!

I should start by saying I own four pairs of Frye boots and one pair of their shoes--most we're purchased when their quality was much better and the products were made in the USA. I ordered these along with the Melissa Zip and both were extremely disappointing; thanks to Zappos for great customer service or I likely wouldn't have given these a try because Frye products have been degrading in quality over the past 10 years. Again,these boots prove that Frye has lost its quality workmanship by making boots in China and Mexico. I was extremely disappointed with these boots for three reasons: (1.) they were shoddily made and one of the boots had a twisted bottom half close to where the zipper is attached going halfway up the calf; every step I took it twisted itself into an awkward and ugly wrinkled position. (2) the half zipper just seems cheap, looks weird, and mostly seems like a cost savings measure; I didn't like having a zipper pull hanging half way up my calf, looks terrible (3) overall, the quality is just not worthy of the price. Frye might start listening to its customer reviews... I remember when their boots were benchmade in the USA and cost about the same amount of money. Something's strange when cheap looking, shoddily constructed boots made in foreign countries cost as much as the same product previously cost when made in the USA....

Nice boot, soft leather, right height. But the short zipper was nearly impossible to zip and unzip. The bottom of the boot was made of some sort of plastic which didn't look durable and would be hazardous to wear in the wintertime. Back they went.

Love! My teenage daughter and I both own these boots. (I had to get a pair once I saw hers.) They are so comfortable, and they run true to size. The leather is very soft. I wear them ALL the time. The buckle detail is a nice touch. I believe you can "dress them up or down". Great, timeless boots with the quality you expect from Frye. Go get 'em!

Beautiful boot. Couldn't get my foot past the lower part of boot. Too narrow for some reason. I seemed to have ok calf room and I ordered a half size larger than needed.

Loved these boots and exactly what I was looking for but I normally where 10.5 but always order larger. I received this in a 11 and they were so small I could barely get my foot in them. So disappointed.

I got these boots in the red in a size 9. I am normally a size 8.5, but thought I should order up because I would want to wear thicker socks with these. I have narrow feet and slender toes. The toe part of the boot was SO TIGHT. The top of the boot felt like it was pushing down and putting pressure on my toes, and I was wearing thin socks. So disappointing. I had to return. Otherwise, these are beautiful boots.

These are the perfect height. They do not hit the back of my knees. They are much softer than other frye styles that I tried, so they are easy to get on and comfortable right out of the box. No breaking in needed!

I love these boots. They are great looking and comfortable. The zipper on the inside makes them very easy to get on and off my foot.

I really love these boots! They are made with the quality that I expect from Frye. I read another reviewer state that the quality was not as good as it used to be. But I do not agree. The leather is supple and will,age beautifully. I got the size 8. (I wear a 7½-8) At first, I thought that were too. If, but after putting my orthotics in them and wearing good socks for cooler temperatures, they fit perfectly. Someone else had said that the zipper was hard to go up and down. I am having no issues with it. I would recommend these to anyone looking for gorgeous comfortable well made boots. I am 5'1" and the shaft of these came to just under my knees.

I finally found a riding boot for my skinny calves. It's not tight by any means but doesn't look clownishly large. The leather is soft and has a nice patina. Will work well with jeans or skirts.

These boots, as everyone else says, are gorgeous. They are just too narrow for my wide toes, and my heel hits funny in the cup. Narrow calf, however, was exactly what I was looking for. I love these boots, I just can't risk them being uncomfortable at this price point. I won't lie - I got a little misty-eyed when I packed them back into the box.

This is my second pair of Frye boots and I ordered a 1/2 size up this time. After reading the reviews for my first pair, I was convinced the leather would stretch and the boots would fit over time, but that didn't happen and the right foot is very uncomfortable. Needless to say, it was disappointing when you spend that much on a pair of boots. So this time I tried both sizes and ended up going a half size up, which feels great. The boots are gorgeous. I got the Grey Vintage and it was slightly darker than the picture. I would call it taupe. But it is beautiful and I love the boots! They look great with lighter jeans. I will have a cobbler put a slip resistant patch on the bottom so I don't slip in the winter.

These boots are my early Christmas gift. It took a lot of convincing to order them due to the price, but I knew Frye boots run at this price and since I've been waiting to get rider boots for multiple years, I figured I'd give it a shot. First off, color, photos, description and reviews are spot on. I originally was looking at a cognac color, but then saw the rustic red and thought it'd be nice to have something more unique. They fit true to size (I'm a size 8) and fit really well around my calf. Enough space for comfort but no awkward gap. However, I do have skinnier calves despite my years of soccer (13cm), so I'd say anybody with 15cm or more, may want to get the extend calf boot. Also, I have a good arch in my foot so keep in mind these are "real" boots where you have to put them on like a "real" boot to make sure your heel gets around the heel cup. Those that have worn cowboy boots with arches should understand. Having said that, the side zipper allows you to get your finger or a shoe horn to get in there to prevent damaging the heel cup, and the loop in the back also helps. Other than that, I really like the color, look and feel of these boots and am excited to wear them out for the Fall and Winter season.

These are very comfortable requiring no break-in. I wear a size 10 in shoes and the 10 fit with room for medium weight socks. The leather is soft, so when you walk, they bend easily. These are the most comfortable Frye boots, especially due to the leather and rounded toe. If you have bunions, these will work and also provide support. There is plenty of room for skinny jeans as well.

Finally, boots that fit my calves! Size 6, 13" to 13.5" calves. I ordered a size down, as is recommended for most Frye boots, and which worked for me for the Melissa Tall Tab style. I followed the advice I got in the shop -- look for a snug fit, you want the leather to touch your feet on the sides. This seemed to be true...however, for me, the size 5.5 ended up too short, and never broke in properly. Next year, I'll try again with a 6 and see if that works better.

Beautiful boots feel like they are built for a lifetime. The shaft is soft leather, but stays upright just fine. The buckles add just enough visual interest to make these better than the average boot. Unfortunately, they are just a shade narrow for me. I typically wear mostly normal 8s, ith the occassional wide shoe (maybe 20% of my shoes are wides). These are snug against my metatarsals. For the price point, I can't compromise. No lie, I'm really sad about it.

These are the best Frye boots! I bought a pair for my boyfriend back in the '70s, and have always worn boots all winter, but never wanted to spend this much on myself. I finally took the plunge, but I went through at least 3 other styles before I got a pair to fit just right & be comfortable. I love these! They are not quite as stiff as some of the other Fryes I ordered & returned, and the short inside ankle zipper makes getting them on & off so much easier. I did not have any issues with the zipper as I read that some folks did. First time i wore them, I kept them on the entire day at work (I am a legal assistant) and expected my feet to be sore when I finally got home that night, but they weren't. Boots were comfy first time out. Can't wait to get them really worn in. If you have any feet or ankle problems, try this style - they really are so stylish & comfy - and, hey - they are Fryes!

Beautiful boots! I love Frye and had some stolen before so had to get a new pair as they are the most comfortable ones on the market and worth the money. I tried these in the dark brown and light brown and both are gorgeous, but kept the light brown. My first pair had a stitch come loose after one use, but Zappos totally replaced them for free as they have the best customer service. My new ones work great and feel great. I have pretty small calves even after gaining 40lbs w/ baby quattro, but there is an adjustable strap in the back which enabled me to tighten them to the smallest setting. Highly recommend!

Love my Frye boots so much. They aren't inexpensive, but you get what you pay for...they last forever, and don't go out of style! The inside zipper is helpful in getting them on and off, as these boots are intended to fit your ankle and calf, and not be too baggy. I also have Melissa button boot in black, and Paige short boot in black...love them all!

Finally a boot that fits someone with small calves. I ordered two Frye boots one of them the Phillip Harness Tall in black (I already have the cognac color) and this boot Frye Phillip Riding. I returned the Phillip Harness Tall back due to quality control and I kept this boot. It is sleek, it is beautiful. I can wear socks or no socks and wear skinny jeans and zip it up. Yea, we have a winner!

Love the look and feel of these boots. Comfortable right out of the box. Felt true to size.

These boots are absolutely beautiful and the quality is outstanding. I have one foot that is 1/2 size larger than the other so I had to order 1/2 size up and the fit was perfect. Plenty of room for skinny jeans. I only hope that the Florida weather stays cool so I can get plenty of wear during the winter months. The boots are exactly what I was looking for, and thank you Zappos for your excellent prompt service.
