I am writing hoping this helps others. I am 5 ft 6 and weigh 135. I thought a med would be good but it was too big. I like that this coat appears to have some shape in the picture but fit me too baggy/boxy. I am hoping to order a small.

I have been searching for the perfect utilitarian-yet-attractive winter coat than keep me warm walking to work, while accommodating bulky sweatshirts/sweaters underneath. This one is it. I tried on a few other North Face coats, some Columbia ones as well, 2 from LL Bean, and this one won! I really liked the Columbia ones as well, but they were a little more frumpy-looking, while this one appeared more streamlined. The fit was great - I'm 5'5, 140ish and got a medium. It was cozy yet perfect to layer things underneath. Great movement in the arms, and was very comfortable to drive in. I used to feel so restricted in my old coat that I would take it off in my seat when driving - no need with this one. Really happy about the zippered pockets (a hidden one inside as well), and the snaps are great if you just want to close the jacket around the chest quickly instead of zipping it fully. I got the grayish color, and it is a beautiful gray-blueish-lavender hue - very unique yet muted so it goes with anything. Compared to the other jackets of this style that I tried, this one was the longest (37" I think), and it was nice b/c it hit just above my knee. I walk to work in scrubs in the winter, so I'll take all the leg-coverage I can get. The inside of the pockets and around the neck has a thin fleece-type layer which adds a bit of extra coziness. Overall very happy with the purchase, and as always extremely thrilled with Zappos. They are seriously, seriously the best.

A very warm winter jacket. (In fact, I get too hot when I keep it on inside the house. I have an average body temperature of 37C, though. Much warmer than others.) I am 4'11", 110 lbs. (149cm, 50kg.) and XS fits well. It's not too tight, just right. (I tried on SM, and I noticed a lot of room around my torso.) The jacket's hem comes down to my knees, which is longer than how this jacket was designed. Go to North Face website for sizing - they let you type in your measurements and calculate which size fits you. And then order from here, on Zappos, because their return policy is much better than North Face. Lastly, I live in Canada, and wore this jacket in winter. I didn't feel any cold at all. I was only wearing a tanktop and a thin knit underneath. This is, without a doubt, a great winter jacket.

I recently ordered several coats in various styles, sizes, and colors--the Marmot Montreal, North Face Metropolis, and North Face Miss Metro. I am a shirt size XL and ordered both XL and XXL if available. The XXL fit much better in this style, and was very comfortable with enough room to layer. I live in Northern Indiana and the winters with their lake-effect systems here can be brutal, so I was looking for the warmest coat in this price range. The Metropolis coat was very light and thin, and I doubt it would cut it for those 0 degree days in Jan/Feb. Also, the down was ALREADY shedding the moment I took it out of the bag. For a coat that cost this much, I expected much higher quality. I ended up keeping the Marmot.

You cannot go wrong with this must have jacket for the winter. I live in Nj and got it in black - it matches everything and it fits well especially if you got some extra baggage and its flattering but highly recommend. I am very large chested and it fits very good.

Awesome! So happy I bought this coat. It is very warm but very lightweight. It was perfect for walking around frigid NYC!

Third time was the charm for me! I am 5'4, 145 lbs and have a challenge finding coats to fit my broad back and bigger arms, especially when wearing a heavier sweater underneath. Wanted a mid-thigh, hooded parka that would keep me warm in our cold Michigan winters without making me look like the Michelin Man. I had previously ordered a medium NF Metrolina, which was too snug in the arms and wide at the bottom, and then a large in the Gotham, which was too big in the body and not flattering on me. The Metropolis in a medium was just perfect, and in the exact color I was looking for! Enough room in the arms plus a relatively slim line that will keep my legs warm, too. Will be perfect for college football games. It's losing a few feathers but nothing I didn't expect. My returns on the other 2 coats were super easy and processed quickly. This is my third coat from Zappos - 2 North Face and a Calvin Klein. All were great experiences - gotta love Zappos!

I swore I would NEVER wear a "puffy coat". But this "winter of our discontent" I decided to at least try the added warmth of the down layer. And I have never spent a lot more with more reward!!

So far so good. This jacket is pretty thin but warm. The only complaint is the feathers continually come out. All in all it's a nice jacket.

Nice warm coat. A few feathers have come out, but not many. I bought it for a trip to the Northeast. It traveled well and was not too bulky in airports and on the plane. I'm petite (5'3") so it's longer on me. I rolled the sleeves slightly and it comes to the length of my dresses and skirts which is good for work travel. I'm an average frame. The small fit fine, but I do wish North Face made a petite line.

I love this coat! It's light and so warm! I'm 5'2 and 140lbs and originally bought the M - I decided to exchange for the L because I have really broad shoulders. The M fit but when I moved my arms I felt constricted. The Large is awesome and still flattering - highly recommend!

This coat is just what I was looking for - not too long, not too short. Very warm and comfortable without a lot of bulk.

I am tall (5'10") and busty (DD) and I have been searching for an overcoat for months. This jacket goes over thick sweaters and layers, but doesn't make me feel like a marshmallow. It's super warm and lightweight!

Best coat ever. Looks great with jeans, but also fits over a suit for work. I'm 5'9 and the sleeves are long enough and the coat hits me right above the knees.

I love this coat! Lightweight but very warm. Rolled up to fit in my carry-on bag for my last 2 trips to DC. Very stylish and comfortable.

I love this coat! It keeps me very warm and I like the look of it. It also shipped extremely fast and was to my house within 2 or 3 days!

Love this coat! The fit is great and not overly bulky, yet it still keeps me very warm. I am 5'10" with broad shoulders and often times have trouble finding coats with enough room in the should area. The XL fits great, and I still have plenty of room to wear a thick sweater or multiple layers underneath. The fit is also great because it fits somewhat close to the body so I don't look like Michelin Man when I leave the house. The only downfall is that it is shedding some of the insulation, but it is not enough to be a huge issue.

Perfect for Atlanta winters - keeps me warm in temps down to the 20s - if I lived up North, I'd probably want something a little warmer. As is the case with other North Face jackets I have, I prefer to go up a size and got the medium - it turned out to be a perfect fit and still allows room for heavy sweaters underneath. The silhouette is very flattering for a winter coat.

This is a perfect coat for my college student! She is 5'2" and it is a great length for her. It is a little longer than the photo, but not too long. It is warm and lightweight. I ordered four coats. This is the one that she chose. The others went back the next day. Thanks, Zappos!

Love, love, love Northface! Bought this for our 15 year old and she's back to wearing coats! It fits in her locker, but yet so warm, and she says it's one of the comfiest coats she's ever worn! Time to order one for Mom!

This is my first experience with North Face and I am very pleased with this jacket. Actually at 5'1" and 112 pounds, it is actually a coat for me. It hits just below the knee. Amazingly, it works. It doesn't look like a jacket that is too long. The medium felt most comfortable to me. I first tried on in Macys, but they didn't have the color I wanted in my size. Wasn't sure if I wanted the moonlight ivory or the graphite. I ordered both from Zappos and guess what, I still can't decide which color I want. I will probably go with the ivory since I have a black short jacked and a black long wool coat. I am tempted to keep both though. The Metropolis is so comfortable, light weight and silky soft. The ivory seems to have slightly less sheen than the other colors -- which I like -- and has a black and white printed lining. All other colors have a solid lining. Zappos, as always, was a pleasure to do business with. Received my order in about 4 days.

First time customer for Zappos and for North Face. First off Zappos I will definitely use this on line store again. Great service... I paid less then I would've in the department store. I tried my coat on at Macy's which they didn't have the color I wanted and the price tag said $289.00. I found this coat at Zappo's for the same price. I double checked my measurements that the size chart indicated just to be sure. The size is perfect. I paid ONLY this cost no tax and the shipping was free. I SAVED a few bucks.... As for the coat I LOVE IT. It fits perfectly it is not like the other coats that make you look like a box this coat hugs your curves. It is soft, and comfy. It is long enough to block the wind and it is not bulky. I love that it has feathers and not cotton which helps with the bulkiness. This coat is costly is is worth this cost? I guess we will see how long it keeps it shape and it last for. Living in the windy city this coat will be used daily. It is perfect for causal wear or dress up.

I have been looking at NF down jackets online for awhile for the cold New England winter. I was comparing reviews for this versus the Miss Metro. Based on previous reviews on Zappos I went with the Metropolis and love it. Its warm without being bulky and for a down jacket is actually flattering. I an 5'6" and 125 and the small is a perfect fit. I went with the graphite grey which is pretty. Very happy with my purchase.
