These boots should come with a timber claim and an axe. Sadly, I have no business owning a pair of these boots. As soon as I unboxed them, I realized that my life was a wasted opportunity, and I lacked the construction background, or ranch, or metal shop, or other manly profession to be worthy of these workhorses. These boots are for every guy in every truck commercial. But they are comfortable, stylish, and tough as nails. If you can pull it off, these are some amazing pieces of craftsmanship.

Zappos was great when ordering this product - I had a few different types of gift cards and the person on the phone patiently helped me use all of them - awesome customer service. Red Wing Heritage Blacksmith Review - I'm a big Red Wing fan . I've had several different types of there boots (steel toes, ropers) - always had a great experience. These so far are great. As many others have suggested, order a full size down (from your dress shoe size - not your tennis shoe size), and do not fear, you will still have room. I've been wearing these 3 or 4 times a week and the leather is just started to break and feel comfy. Expect them to be stiff for at least a full month of heavy wear. I suggest getting Red Wing's Mink Oil (instead of their boot oil) as this will give them a nice slow boot patina. Overall, very pleased, looks great with jeans (especially some nice ones where you want to show off the selvedge line. :) Also great with khakis etc...

These are beautiful boots (I got the Bourbon Yuma). Well crafted and the attention to detail is phenomenal. Usually wear a 10.5/44 Euro and the 10 fits perfectly with some wiggle room for the toes (which is how they should fit per Red Wing). Can't wait to wear these for years to come. Highly recommend.

I looked at a few different styles and pairs before deciding on these: another set of Red Wings from JCrew that seemed to have lesser fit and finished, and in fact different sized boots, as well as a pair of Chippewas that were nice overall but too narrow. This pair was the best fit and the highest quality--I could not be more happy with them. Lots of compliments and they feel amazing. Don't hesitate to be picky when spending this much.

A solid boot; it takes breaking in but it does soften up into a very comfortable fit. Do not overlook the charcoal color -- base is black with an aura of gray dust over it. Handsome.

Great quality boot. Definitely get a full size below your usual size. I am almost always a 10.5, and a 9.5 was perfect.

My first pair of Red Wing boots lasted me 17 years and counting. This pair is a little dressier, but seems to have the same great construction. The best part about Red Wing is the customer service even a decade after the boots are purchased. Takes a few wears to break-in but they are very comfortable now.

Best quality boots. Bought these for my husband as a Christmas present. He was looking for a solid yet stylish pair of brown boots. He is in love with these boots. These definitely run big so order down ma full size.

These are wonderful boots. I normally wear a 10, but had to get a 9.5 in these. They become more and more comfortable as I wear them. They are very well made & seem to fit their description perfectly.

Great boot, great look. Runs about 1 size big. Make sure to loosen the laces all the way for easy removal and putting the boot on or else it will be tough.

Love these boots! The other reviewers are right, you should size a whole size down. I normally wear a 10 1/2 in Red Wings and the 9 1/2 in the Blacksmith fits. They'll take a few days to break in but once they do, they are beautiful, comfortable boots. For those with low arches like me, they'll probably pinch a bit in the middle, but this breaks in quickly. Also, the laces feel impossibly stiff when you first lace the boots (why?) but this too shall soon pass.

These boots are top notch and should last a very long time. My last pair of Red Wings lasted about a decade and under extreme conditions. I went with the "Charcoal Rough and Tough" and they look great with jeans, tan chinos, grey chinos, or black pants. The color and plain round toe makes for a pretty versatile boot. This is the first pair of Red Wings I have bought in quite a while and I forgot what it was like to break-in a pair of true work boots. It does take a little longer to break them in and you may consider returning them if you aren't used to this type of footwear. Do not do that. Trust me, they will mold to the shape of your feet and will soon become your favorite boots once they are broken in and they will last - pretty much forever. Two additional points besides the "break-in" requirement that I will share: 1. These definitely run large. I ordered a full size down and they are perfect. 2. The tongue is attached to the sides of the boot so it can be tight squeezing your foot into them if you have a high instep - like I do. It is similar to a snug pair of cowboy boots but not quite as extreme.

These boots are amazing. Great look, comfortable, great quality. The only thing to watch out for is the sizing...they run large! I got a size and a half smaller than what I wear in most other brands and they are still a tiny bit large!

I was originally nervous when ordering this particular shoe. I thought it was too expensive and I didn't want to deal with the hassle of breaking in a leather shoe. I am so glad I purchased this shoe. This show is pure quality. Also, it didn't take very long to break in. Remember to order a full size down. Shipping was quick and easy! I will be ordering from Zappos again in the future!

Really nice boots, well made and look good. I vacillated on ordering a half size or full size small and found that the full size smaller than normal was necessary.

Excellent boot - extremely well built. Leather is stiff, and will require break in - but will be worth it. I had to return the first pair even though I ordered 1/2 size smaller than my normal boot size (I wear size 8 Danners and Frye). 7 should be just right here...which is 1 1/2 size down from my sneaker and oxford size.

After owning two pairs of the Red Wing Heritage Beckman's, I was in the market to buy a fresh pair of boots and found the Heritage Blacksmith's with the all rubber soles. After receiving these boots, I found them to be more comfortable due to the rubber soles over the Beckman's split soles. Don't get me wrong, the Beckman's are a great boot and I still wear them regularly. Again, these boots run a half-size larger, so make sure you order accordingly.

A great boot. Although not rated as water proof - they kept my feet dry in a heavy rainfall and walking around on soggy ground for hours - twice. I tried going 1/2 size smaller BUT one whole size smaller is what one needs to buy. Must be they are sized for England.Too bad the 2014 price is 30 times the price of 1964.

These are really great boots! Very comfortable and very high quality. They are a full size off. I normally wear an 11.5 but had to go down to a 10.5 in these boots.

I spent a decent amount of time shopping around for a pair of boots that would last me a while. After trying on Wolverine 1000 mile, the Redwing Beckman (both standard and J. Crew versions), the Iron Ranger, and Redwing Plain-Toe wedge boots, I decided to go with these. The fit on these boots was just right, probably a little more than a half size big (I measure a 10½-11 and went with a 10 in these), but more importantly, relatively true to width. I found with some of the other similar boots, all of which run big, the width was similarly inflated, making it feel like my feet were swimming in the boots. With these, the fit was firm around the ankle and through the mid-foot, with a little wiggle in the toes and a small amount of room at the heels. For comparison I wear/have worn the following sizes in other boots (I found these sorts of size comparisons to be helpful when shopping): Timberland Eathkeepers Original 6-inch boot: 10 Chippewa 6-inch Plain Toe Wedge: 10 As far as style, they certainly pop more than your average brown leather boots. I suspect the color will mellow with age or a treatment of mink oil as well as grow more handsome as the leather gets distressed. One small concern is I can already tell the cork sole will need replacing sooner than I would like. All-in-all these are really nice boots that look great and will probably be quite comfortable once the leather softens a bit and boot molds to my foot.

I originally had the Red Wing Blacksmith boots, but had issues with the sole detaching and sold them back many months ago. The benefit of these boots, is the one piece sole that has no possibility of detaching. The Iron Ranger boots have the same sole, but I think these boots look a lot better than the Iron Rangers. Zappos customer service was incredible. I first ordered two boots (10, 10.5) to get the size figured out. However, the 10 was really small, and I wanted to try an 11. Received the size 11 and sent back the 10.5 But the leather quality of the size 11 I had, was kind of crappy. There were black splotches in the leather ankle area, and some random light colored streaks. I sent back this "defective" size 11, and received another size 11 that had a much better quality of leather that I'm pleased with. All in all, I've gone through 4 pairs of boots and am now happy with the pair I have. Thank you Zappos.

I do metal work for a living. I have had two pair of Red Wing 8" logger boots within the last seven years (and I went through three Vibram soles with them at 50 hours a week). I loved them. My only complaint is the heavy Vibram sole and my cold feet in the winter. The blacksmith was appealing because of the lighter weight, 6" height, and lighter cork sole. I wear them 50 hours a week. The leather feels chalky and needs mink oil as stated from other customers; the logger boot leather is more pleasing to touch. The blacksmith boot never gave blisters right out of the box though. However I am disappointed with the partial triple stitching as every seam should be triple stitched at this price. Real work boots deserve complete triple stitching throughout. The leather footbed and cork outsole feels similar to a leather sole, and may leave some desiring more cushion if you are used to softer landings. The cork sole provides good grip. Not excellent but enough for my purpose. And seems to ward off shards of razor blades left on any sheet metal shop floor. Get you some wool socks for winter with these boots. I like them overall. But for the life of me I cannot understand why it is so impossible to have the eyelets punched in the same places for both left and right. Maybe you will have better luck. I wear 10½ in Red Wing logger/blacksmith and 10½ in wolverine 1,000 mile. I would personally rate the blacksmith an eight because of the lack of triple stitching throughout and unevenly punched eyelets from left to right.
