After being disappointed that I couldn't get Frye's that fit over my "athletic calves" I was thrilled to get these. Soft, buttery leather, and they go great with many outfits. They are slightly narrow in the foot.

I have wide feet and muscular calves, so I assumed ordering these boots with the Wide Calf would work best for me, especially since I didn't mind if they were a little loose on the calves. These look great right out of the box. But once they're on, I realized that they were way too wide for me. I could literally stick both hands into the boot along with my calves! They also were uncomfortable on the soles of my feet. I'm going to order in the regular Sam Edelman Penny style to see if that's any better.

I liked this boot but the coloring of the dye used on the leather was splotchy. Liked the color but could tell it was dyed badly. will return and order black. The fit was pretty good. I wear a 5 1/2 and ordered a 6 with a wide calf. The very top of the boot is too wide for me but it fits in the calf so I need the wide.

These boots are so cute, I love them! They are so sleek and stylish - definitely have an expensive look and feel. My complaint is that they are considered wide calf or athletic fit but they are not that generous. My calves measure at 16 inches at their widest point - I have barely enough room to zip these up over skinny jeans. I mean not a centimeter to spare. I'm so glad I got them zipped up because they are now my favorite boots. I have a normal to slightly narrow foot so it's not too tight, but know that these are narrower than most boots. Also, the perfect heel height!

This boot is beautiful. The leather is super soft and the style is great. I am 5'6 and my widest calf at its widest point is 18". At first, I couldn't come anywhere close to zipping the boot up, but with time, a moderate struggle, some heavy breathing, and a lot of swearing, I was able to get it zipped to the top - it was TIGHT, and I had a bit of boot muffin top going on. I kept them on for awhile, walking around the house and then took them off. Today when I put them on, I was able to zip them much more easily with still a bit of muffin top. I think the little elastic gore is stretching, which is making the fit better. I am going to attempt to wear them around the house, as another reviewer did, to see if they loosen up enough. If not, I will take them to the cobbler to widen the elastic insert or something. They are way too beautiful for the price point to send back!

These are nice looking boots! I really like the details and the back zipper. It is so easy to put on and take off. The wide calf fits ok, but the ankle area is way too wide for me. So I am returning them.

Great boots for the money. I wanted boots that have a gap at the calf and the wide calf was very wide. My calves aren't huge but the normal width is never enough to give me the gap I'm looking for. They're wide enough to wear with the bulky boot socks and still have plenty of room. Good purchase.

These are beautiful boots that will hopefully break in, but they need arch support. This will prove challenging given how narrow they are - the M width is very narrow. You can purchase a W width on other sites - wish it was offered from Zappos.

This is a lovely boot and I ALMOST kept it. I have large, muscular calves and while I was able to zip these even over skinny jeans, the gaping at the top was unsightly. I'm so sad, but I love Zappos for allowing me to try again!

What lovely soft leather and cushioning! Alas, these were snug around the largest part of my calf but winged out ridiculously with a 1"+ gap at the top.

I didn't plan to keep these. I ordered them partly because I thought I would like the angled top, but I actually think they add width. There were in the back of the car to go to the ups store when I was out of town and my boys insisted I join them for a snowball fight in 6 inches of snow. It was break out the boots, miss the fun or freeze my feet. They're keepers now, which is great. Turns out they are virtually waterproof out of the box, surprisingly warm and comfy. The angled top is easily fixed with boot socks and the olive color is very versatile, although not fantastic with dark jeans. I might actually order the brown.

Gorgeous boot! I'm 5'2" tall and these boots are just a little to long for my legs...makes me look shorter. Love the leather and the style and it's very comfortable. I hate to send these back but 16 1/2" tall boots are too tall for my frame.

Really love these and was looking forward to finding the perfect riding boot but alas it was not to be. The standard Penny was just a tad tight around my calf so I got the wide thinking all my problems would be solved. I was wrong. When the calf diameter was increased the height of the shaft increased as well making the boots look ridiculous on my and hit at a very uncomfortable spot. Back they go.

This is such a beautiful boot. The leather is supple and richly colored. The details - like the little button closure over the back zipper - are very nice. The only problem is the calf width. My 15.5" calves were swimming in these boots even in jeans; unfortunately, I looked like a very fashionable pirate. I would second guess the calf measurement (supposedly 16") or maybe half an inch just really is too much.

So disappointed, I've been waiting for these boots for the better part of a year but it seems several of you ladies who wear a size 11 beat me to it with the Whiskey color! I did get the Olive color, oh, last ones! I anxiously awaited my delivery and there they were last week on my front stoop. Got them in the house, ran into my bedroom and ripped the box open......looked at the beautiful leather, smelled them...yes, you know you do that too....unzipped them and started to put them on when I realize there is something very wrong. Either my foot grew or Sam Edelman shrunk his size 11's?! I could not shove my foot into the boot....wahhhhhhh! I looked at the box, yup, size 11....so I look at the boots....and they are a size 10. Epic fail. I called Zappos immediately so they wouldn't think I was responsible for this. Turns out that I was the first one to get these boots so the error was from the manufacturer. Zappos sent me a return label and gave me a credit voucher for my troubles and back they went....so sad. My disappointment in Zappos is this, today I went online looking for the Whiskey in my size, hoping that maybe someone would have returned a pair. I stumble upon one pair of size 11's in Olive. I'm betting that those boots are the exact same pair I just sent back to Zappos and got returned to stock. I called into customer service to let them know so hopefully they will pull the missed marked box from inventory. I do a lot of shopping with Zappos and this is the first time I've run into this problem. I do love the convenience of Zappos and the free shipping both ways.

The calf fit great, but the shoe was a bit snug which was exacerbated by the goofy zipper placement. With the zipper at the heel (and not great quality) I couldn't zip these up. So bummed, I really wanted them to work.

One shoe was narrower than the the other and the shaft was very large.

Love these boots. I currently have a black and brown pair. The black pair is tight in the calf so I thought a wide may work. Brown pair are good. I can put almost slide my hand down the top of the boot so I guess I will have to lose weight or perhaps have them stretched. Never thought about that since leather should stretch some. Pretty boot. Shoe area was too tight to wear with socks and the shaft is too wide.

Very stylish and I loved the boot, however because I needed a larger size than my normal size, I had to return. They do not have the size I would need. They run narrow and small.

The width seemed narrow. I always take a medium width shoe or boot and these fit very snug. I tried them on with no socks. I love the style and the calf width was perfect. The main reason for purchasing this boot. Unfortunately there is very little arch support and no discernible heel. I regrettably will be returning them.
