I bought the forest green and all I can say is it's gorgeous. It's a bit darker in person, you can barely tell it's green. I am a college student, a science major, and a junior. So my load is not light at all. I can fit two moderately sized books and two plastic notebook binders, one moleskine notebook, a pencil pouch, two small books, one graphing calculator, one small fuzzy makeup bag. Then in the back, I put my 13 inch macbook air. The bag is absolutely loaded at this point and it's not that comfortable -- at all. This is maxed and it's really heavy compared to my North Face backpack. So, I bought two backpacks to switch. I generally have two separate groupings of class periods, so I have a Monday, Wednesday, Friday backpack and then I have a Tuesday, Thursday backpack. I know that's expensive and wasteful, but it's so darn cute that I couldn't help myself. One thing I love about this bag is that I don't have to dig anymore! I slap it on a table or chair and unzip both ends by pulling and the bag opens up like a lunch box! I can find everything like you could in a brief case. It's so smart. The padding is moderate on the back, for the laptop. If you have a heavy laptop, I would suggest extra padding. The bag is amazingly well built and sturdy. It is hard and stiff for the first couple of weeks, but after some good use, she loosens up and is very soft. I love the straps on the laptop kanken because they are reinforced with padding. It's much more comfortable than the regular straps. I will say this, you must consider how large your notebooks are. I had some extra long binders and they infringe on the side pockets -- big time. So I had to get smaller binders. I would suggest taking your backpack to the bookstore (or wherever) and fit the binders in there. If you have really big books, be aware that they won't allow for those side pockets. And that can be not so fun if it's rainy and you need to put your umbrella somewhere...or a water bottle. I have a contigo 24 oz water bottle that fits perfectly. So you can stick a fat water bottle in that side pocket. You can stick a good amount of stuff in it though, as long as the stuff in your backpack doesn't impede on those sides. I have mine fitting perfectly, only because my books aren't especially large this semester. I usually record my class periods and take notes, so I review my notes while I'm on campus instead of always lugging my big books around. You can always get the ebook too, which I have for most of my expensive science books. I also carry an iPad mini...that helps reduce the whole book problem. If you take notes on a computer, then this bag is perfect for you! Because it's light and so roomy, and very stylish. I have had it for three weeks and can't put it down. I love it. I use it to go everywhere. It's so soft and broken in now. My water bottle has widened the side pocket a bit too. Oh, and the top handles are so convenient. When you're on the bus and it's packed, you don't have to worry about swinging your bag over your shoulder and hitting someone, you just hold it like a purse and you're golden! I love that. It doesn't have fancy stuff like the Herschel Little America (headphone port) or the North Face (one million pockets) but I promise if you get this bag, it's simplicity will keep you a fan. I have dug in my North Face for three years...searching endlessly at the bottom of pockets...but not in my kanken. Everything fits like a bento box It's a stellar bag. If you can afford less load and have compartmentalized your load in devices like tablets and computers -- then this is a bag for you. I have realized I do most of my hard studying in my room, I use my computer to do almost everything at school. As long as you have that ebook, you'll be fine! The bag is not waterproof, but you can wax it with the fjallraven wax. It is still pretty water resistant in rain though. This bag is wicked in the summer too! No more sweaty back! If you're looking for something unique on campus, this is it. Kanken will force you to simplify, but you'll be glad you did.

I needed to upgrade my work backpack to something more professional, but I still wanted it to be stylish. I bought the 15" in Ox Red and it is perfect. It fits my 13" big, boxy Lenovo work laptop perfectly and the main pouch is large enough to carry all my work essentials. I even traveled to Europe with it recently, and it was very comfortable and perfect for carrying around all my essentials.

I got this bag in black. Because of the material it attracts dirt/salt/dust and appear visible if you buy it in a dark color. But it's really easy to keep clean, just wipe it down with a wet wipe or cloth. I have 15 in' retina macbook pro and with a sleeve over it, it still fits perfectly inside the laptop compartment. I LOVE the padded straps. They are super comfortable. Even when my backpack is fully loaded with a notebook,binder,textbook and macbook. The extra support from the padded straps helps a ton. It doesn't feel like it's about to give out on me. The shape of the bag feels nice on my back, like very sturdy and not slouchy. The front pocket is the perfect size for miscellaneous items. I use it for my keys,wallet and extra pens. The side pockets are a decent size. They are big enough to fit a small umbrella or a 16 oz plastic water bottle. The top straps are nice for when you want to give your back a break. Overall i'm really satisfied with this bag and plan to buy another one in a smaller size and different color to use for going out and not school.

Don't buy this bag. Or at least buy a different color. I got this bag three times and each one I received had white stains and what looked like water damage on it. What a complete waste of a cool product.

My girlfriend bought the classic Kanken and she loves it. Inspired by her I purchased this one because it’s a little bigger and it has padded shoulder straps. The material is really tough and durable for both outside and inside use. I can see this pack lasting a long time. The only thing negative I say about it is the side pockets, they’re not that flexible so a water bottle may be hard to fit in there depending on how much stuff you carry. Overall, I can’t wait to try it out on a weekend getaway.

I've used this same backpack for 4 years. It's incredibly durable and has great standout style. Love it!

I bought the forest green color, love the color. It's just big enough to hold everything and it's pretty light weight.

I bought this to travel with. It is large enough to pack your essentials but small enough to wear comfortably. I highly recommend this.

I am a 5'2, very petite but this bag does not look big on me at all. I needed a bag for travelling and was deciding between the classic kanken or this 15"laptop one, and I am glad I picked this. The size is perfect for camping trips. The color is indeed army green, a neutral color that both you and your boyfriend can carry.

This is an awesome backpack! It definitely has a non-traditional style which I happen to love. It fits my laptop perfectly and holds a lot of other items. It can be a bit heavy when full, but the backpack itself is very lightweight. Love the bright purple! It's great for travel.

Item shipped was not as pictured in photo. In photo is the Kanken 15" Laptop bag. Laptop bag (as photos show), have back zipper where the laptop gets put and all other stuff goes in regular larger compartment, a padded seat is in the regular compartment, and the straps have cushions. The item that was sent did not have the back zipper where the laptop slips into, did not have the foam padded seat, nor did it have the padded straps. It appeared to the be regular/classic kanken that sells for $80.

I love this backpack! I’ve used it for years and it’s well made and spacious. It’s comfortable to carry and easily fits my laptop, a bunch of books and all of my personal effects. The color is great and it’s super easy to clean. It has a worn in look without looking like it’s dingy or old.

Delivery is always fast with Zappos. Love that! Now for this Kanken 15" bag..it is exactly what I was looking for. I have to carry my laptop back and forth to the office nowadays. I don't like to carry multiple bags. I tried using a laptop bag and then my regular work bag but it was too heavy for all the walking I have to do to get to the office. This is lightweight, has a dedicated part for the laptop and a large compartment for my personal items and for a pair of shoes. It is perfect!! I can carry by the handles or use use the back padded straps. Very comfortable. I ordered the grey. Nice neutral color that matches anything. I did order the Kanken laptop 2.0 with the leather handles but it seemed larger than this one. I had to return. So glad I discovered Kanken bags!!

Perfect size for high school student.

This is an excellent "small profile" backpack with an 18L capacity. I use it for in-town toting my laptop (15" retina macbook pro), 11" iPad, and a small zippered sleeve with charger/wires/converter). I can also stuff a thin sweater and leggings in the main compartment. The front zippered area usually just holds my earbuds, a snack, and chapstick. The cushioning in the back zippered area for the laptop is great. This style does have dual water bottle pockets on either side which fits a skinny-style bottle. I set the comfort at 4 stars because the straps directly over the traps have no cushioning and the "criss-cross" material directly behind the back / between the shoulder blades is a little uncomfortable (not so much that it was a deal-breaker, but compared to other styles I tried, it's noticeable enough to mention). In the end, the Kanken 15" met my most important requirement: smallest possible capacity that fit my laptop and ipad w/ accesories AND with a side pocket for water. My other go-to brands were simply too bulky at 22L and above.

Gave this to our 16 year old daughter who absolutely loves it. Went with the red which is a gorgeous dark red/almost burgundy color. It's roomy and well done. She is looking forward to using it daily for school. Likes that it has the laptop compartment. Plenty of space for everything and should help her stay fairly organized.

The size -- I'm 5'1" -- was too large, so I am opting for a smaller version of this bag. It was surprisingly more comfortable than I thought; I liked the flat back.

It lacks in pockets. No place to really hold a phone or water bottle, but it’s still a nice backpack. Good for school or travel.

I bought this bag about 3 years ago as a nontraditional diaper bag for my son and still use it to this day. It's roomy and easy to use, though sometimes I do wish it had a few more sections. The bag has held up great and cleans well, even in the washer. The only complaint I have is that the clasp that holds the two top straps together doesn't stay closed very well. Oh and the only options for the length of the shoulder straps is super tight (with the ends snapped up) or completely loosened. Overall I love this bag and it's great to have a diaper bag that my husband doesn't mind being seen carrying.

I bought this in Black, the design is very sleek but the cloth used for this product seems to look very dirty with white stain looking on the edges that it makes it look old.
