I had been watching this backpack for a few months and am so glad I finally bought it. It has a classic style, quality fabrication, and is good size. It is light-weight yet sturdy, with strong zippers and straps. I abandoned my tote-style purse for my Fjällräven and I have no regrets!

As always, your store is at its best: fast dispatch, fast delivery, product quality, response to questions. Thank you very much I love making orders in your store. Such a backpack is bought for the second time, only the first one was orange, and this time I bought a black one. My niece really likes it!

I got the used classic Kanken backpack through Poshmark. I had put off buying one. The style looked too much what a kid would wear, too square... But when I got this and tried it, I fell in love with it. It comes across small but carries a lot - my wallet, Epi-pen and other medical stuff (aspirin, allergy, bandages, mirror.... all in that blue bag). I also carry a Moleskine pocket size sketchbook with pens and a watercolor set. Snacks, extra bag and water bottle. The side pockets holds my smartphone and sunglasses, eventually an umbrella. There is more space to carry extra clothing or other things. If I go out to a sketching event, I can carry a larger sketchbook with a larger watercolor palette, coffee mug....etc. The material is waterproof and had come with padded shoulder pads. The Kanken carries lightly. I definitely felt the difference between the Herschel backpack that I had carried all my stuff and the Kanken. I was surprised. Only disadvantage is that the side pockets couldn't hold my slimmer waterbottle. But I m totally happy with it and if I were to get a new one...definitely from Zappos.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I'm a huge fan of backpacks and I've been eyeing the Kankens for years, but the price point was always a little iffy for me. After finally deciding to pull the trigger on this purchase, I can honestly say that the $80 is really only worth it if you are OK with paying for the look (which I ultimately decided I was.) The material is a little stiff and generally not what I expected from the jump. I feel like it will soften and look nicer with time, but there's definitely some sort of break-in period needed. Lots of reviews I read for this bag had beef with the straps - which I really didn't think I'd care much about - but now that I've been using the bag, I kind of get it....they are pretty ridiculous. The same look could be achieved with a slightly thicker/more padded strap; the ones that are on there are a cop out. My biggest issue with the Kanken is the side pockets. It's honestly wild to me how small they are, and again, how easily they could've made them better. If you want to be able to hold your water bottle in a side pocket, this is NOT the bag for you. 12oz cans can juuuust squeeze in there, but my 12oz coffee tumbler can't even be forced in (see pics). If I put my phone in a pocket, nothing else can go in with it. It's pretty pathetic. My "emotional support water bottle" is a 32oz hydroflask, so that obviously has to be carried IN the bag.....and it ends up taking up a huge portion of the inner space. I've been using this bag for work, and with my water & coffee stored inside what I can fit additionally are my planner, a small notebook, pen case, chromebook (which does fit into the padded sleeve area) + charger, and small org pouch for chapstick/hand sanitizer etc. This fills the bag essentially to the brim, so if I need to bring lunch or an extra layer, those things need to be carried separately. In short -- the bag is attractive and can fit the essentials, but there are some serious design flaws that make it not worth the price tag. It was a splurge for me, so I'm hoping it will last long enough to make it worth it.

Returned. I have no idea why this backpack has such high ratings. My guess is because of the brand and is in style like Jansports backpack was when I was a teenager. Anyways, this backpack is super small, not functional, super thin yet stiff, the straps are uncomfortable. The color wine was nice though. My intent was to use it as diaper bag without looking like a diaper bag but it is not functional. I wouldn't have used it for school either.

I LOVE this backpack. It is my daily driver, the one that I use each and every day for just about everything we do. I love backpacks for carrying my stuff but often find them to be too bulky and heavy. Also, I hate looking like I'm about to go hiking all the time. Kanken backpacks remove the rugged look while still providing a backpack that is stylish and functional. The unique design of these backpacks make them super comfortable to wear (and I add the strap pads for extra comfort). They also can fit a surprising amount of stuff in them despite not looking very big. I have both a mini and classic. I generally prefer the classic because I can fit my water bottle in it. I purchased my classic last spring and it has been used daily and through all sorts of trips over the last 6 months (including multiple trips to the beach and even hiking). It still looks like new. The material is stiff and holds up really well to sand, water, and other elements. While these backpacks aren't technically "waterproof," they are water resistant and I have found they do a great job of keeping your stuff dry when caught out in rain. These backpacks are really great. There's a reason I'm seeing so many of them. They are simple, functional, comfortable, and stylish.

Love this bag! I use it as a diaper bag for my toddler. It’s big enough to hold her iPad and other things I need, but it’s smaller than a typical backpack. It can go on my back or I can carry it by the handles. The zipper opening zips all the way around so its easy to pack things and get them out. It’s a good material that seems sturdy and it will last forever. It’s a cute bag that’s universal and it’s one of those items that gets better with age. It’s timeless so it’s worth the extra money! And the have so many cute colors it’s hard to choose one! Warning the dark colors like black and navy can get dusty or whiteish when it gets dirty, but not something that bothers me. So if that bothers you get a lighter color.

I bought this for my daughter to use for kindergarten and hopefully well into (or all of) elementary school - but I almost went with the mini, and I’m glad I didn’t. this backpack fits her perfectly, and she’s only 43” tall and pretty thin. if she were middle/high school age, I think it might be too small for carrying a couple of binders and textbooks around. that being said, she likes it and it is cute AF, so I’m happy with it

Feel of the back pack was great, the space would have been great, the deal breaker for me was the side pocket for my water bottle. I have a favorite water bottle (Thermoflask 24 oz.) and it would not fit, tried some of my other water bottles including just a store plastic one (which I try not to use) and it would not fit either. Sadly, returning.

Love this backpack. It is great for every day use; can fit a jacket, water bottle, wallet comfortably. Does not have a laptop compartment, though. The backpack has a waterproof coating so make sure you don't wash it in the washing machine; I did and it took away some of the waterproofness.

Bought this for my almost 12 year old daughter who cannot use a traditional backpack for school. Straps need to be less than one inch, limiting her to one of those shoe string backpacks which was wreaking havoc on her shoulders. This solved both issues. A little pricey in my honest opinion. I just hope it goes the distance.

I really like the style of this backpack. It is lightweight but can easily get heavy if you carry too many things. I have a tendency of filling my bags to the top and then regretting it. Whether heavy or not, the straps tend to be comfortable and not dig in the shoulders. The zipper is a bit difficult to open at times. The fabric is water resistant. The color is subtle and not too flashy. Overall, I highly recommend this backpack for daily use or day trips, even a “parent” bag used to carry toys. ??

the color is beautiful and exactly what I was looking for, but it's quite thin and flimsy and the material it's made out of feel quite cheap, I was expecting a way better quality backpack tbh.

Super cute, well made, simple and modern. Love that it's sustainable. However, the one issue I can't get passed is the straps. They are inadequate, cheap, and quite frankly, a cop out. The backpack can hold substantial weight (text books for example), but the straps then dig into your shoulders. It's actually very disappointing to pay this much only to have a major component of the bag turn out to be garbage. Also, if you adjust the straps smaller, there is no place to tuck in the excess straps at the bottom so they just stick out. Tying them doesn't really work either; too stiff.

the backpack looked amazing! It seemed to be brand new but there was an orange spot that was not shown to have been there in the photos. This orange dot ruins the bag.

This bag is small. I didn’t want to believe reviews said it fit more than it seemed and because my daughter was so excited to get one like her friend had in Germany. It cannot fit her binder and a very full lunch box or her binder and a water bottle in the side compartment. She is still deciding but I think it’s going to be incredibly annoying and at this price she really needs to use it for more than one year. If you need to carry anything wide, better measure. Cute though.
