Finally I found hiking pants with a super comfortable waistband and the perfect pockets! I'm normally pretty picky about pockets; for outdoor pants, I want some pockets with zippers, but also pockets big enough to actually hold things (most women's pants have the tiniest pockets since we obviously don't care to have useful pockets that get in the way of showing off our girlish figures ). These pockets are perfect while not making the pants look bulky. There are 2 side zippered pockets and 2 front and 2 back pockets which are open and a useful size for holding items larger than a chapstick! My large phone can fit in the pockets, and they still look flattering. Good job Kuhl! I've also had problems with other brands' waistbands chaffing or being too thin and uncomfortable, but the wide elastic waist band and rise in the back allows these pants to be super comfortable and I don't worry about bending over and having my crack all over the place. I'm super excited to wear these hiking and traveling. In terms of sizing, I also found some inconsistency between colors. I'm 5'5.5" and 133 pounds. I bought a 4 and a 6 (32" inseam) in the carbon (dark grey) and seemed to be in between sizes, though actually both fit great and I had a hard time deciding which size I preferred. The 6 wasn't too loose and seemed to fit great, but did fit just slightly baggier (which I often prefer anyways). But then the 4 also fit nicely (woohoo for the elastic) but were a bit shorter and the waistband slightly tighter, which made me consider keeping them in case they stretch out. I think I'm going to stick with the 6 just in case I want to layer them and put leggings or silk long-johns on under them for cold weather hiking (I'm going to be taking them to Iceland for a 14 day camping trip where it will be cold and damp) but I really hope they don't stretch too much after several days of wear (I'll write a followup about how they hold up). I also decided to keep the 6 because then I can wear them traveling and won't have to worry about the 2 buttons digging in if sitting in airplanes or cars all day. I also ordered a 6 in the raven color (which is basically just black) and they seem to fit a tad bit smaller, in between the size 4 and 6 of the carbon color...which is actually perfect because I felt in between sizes for the carbon anyways. Either way, I found that the elastic waistband and stretchiness of the pants mean you will probably be fine with either of the two sizes around your usual size. If you prefer tighter, form-fitting pants, or have a small waist, I'd go with the size smaller. Or if you are quite curvy or prefer slightly looser pants that will be a bit longer if you wear big hiking boots, then stick with the larger size. The awesome waistband really allows a lot of flexibility in the sizing. They do technically have the strings inside the waist for fine-tuning the fit if they are a bit big but I've always hated using inner ties because the knot/bows inevitably dig in to my stomach if I sit. Anyways, I already love these pants. I don't see myself using the cinching feature...would've preferred without that at all...but the comfy fit, wide waistband and great pockets are finally what I've been looking for in a hiking/travel pant. I already have the raven and carbon, and if they work out great for this upcoming 14 day trip, I may even get them in a third color.

I liked the "elastic" waist but wish it went all the way around. The size 6 were too tight but the size 8 were too loose and the drawcord was uncomfortable and stuck out weird. The rise in front was too low for me. I also need at least a 32" (preferably 33") inseam -- I wish Kuhl's came in tall sizes!

Finally, women's pants that cover your unmentionables! I have actually been wearing men's pants for several years now, on account of the won't-it-ever-die low rise style that has prevailed in women's fashion. With Zappos' easy and free return process, I figured I'd take a chance on ordering these. They were a killer find for me - stylish, flattering, and comfortable. The fabric is lightweight, and it "gives" but is not too clingy. I wear these to work and they will definitely be in my travel bag on an upcoming city/forest trip. I just ordered another pair in a different color. For reference, I am 5'4" tall and weight 140 pounds. In Kuhl's men's pants, I wear a size 32, which are comfortably baggy for me. I figured a women's size 12 would work, but they were too big. I exchanged them for a size 10, and they were perfect. Definitely not baggy, but not too tight, either. I also love the Kuhl Mova pants. They are a pull-on casual pant that I wear for my weekend errands around town, but they are nice enough to wear in a casual office setting.

I have literally ordered over 20 pairs of hiking/travel pants, and these are the pair I decided to keep. I love the wide waist band which helps eliminate the muffin top, the higher rise in the back, which eliminates gapping, and unlike another poster, I actually found the rise in front to be adequate. (So many other pairs I tried on were not! Prana, I am looking at you.) For reference, I am a size 12, 5'5" 170 lbs. I am heavy in my stomach and thighs and many other pairs of size 12s just weren't big enough in those areas, or if they were, I looked like I was wearing a tent. The rear is snugger than I am used to (so four stars for comfort), but, looks good, and is flattering. I expect they will ease a bit with wearing. The pants overall are very flattering. And, the material is a bit stretchy, and doesn't make a lot of noise like some options I tried.

Love these pants, but I'm 5' 10" and they were too short for me. There was a good inch, or inch and a half of leg showing above my ankle. I usually like pants to touch the top of my foot. Sadly returning these! I wish they offered a 34" inseam. Incidentally, I have the Kuhl Durango Knicker shorts, which are the same exact style. Love those!

Have to say I think these pants are great for ppl who use wheelchairs! Not to baggy in the legs, a waistband that is comfortable and doesnt look like grandma pants, no back snaps or buttons to cause pressure sores, and front pockets and zip pockets that don't bulge out in the legs, PLUS (and best) low rise in front but higher in the back so seat is comfortable and no crack! Oh yes, the legs are slim but not too slim that you can't manage a leg bag. Material is lightweight and doesn't bunch up in front. Also material is slick enough to slide on and off easily. I got the size 4 short, and since I am 4'2" and 75 lbs they fit like long pants and don't need hemming.

If you are taller than 5'9", there is no way the 32" will be long enough (had to give it a shot though).Great style and fit otherwise. Also, as others have said, order a size up.

OMG! These are the most comfortable pants I have ever worn (and I am no spring chicken)! I took these to Utah for hiking all over the state. I bought these and another pair of Kuhl pants for the trip. I never even put on my Patagonia or my Columbia pants. Loved the interior ties so no belt needed. Definitely designed by a woman for women!! I'm hooked!

I own many Kuhl pants and these are true to their size, but the short length I ordered seems a little long compared to most of their pants. The elastic waist band should be mandatory on all women's hiking pants. There are still two snap closures and an elasticized drawstring inside the waistband. The fabric is lightweight and makes "that sound" when you are walking. It seems to be a trade off if you want true quick dry pants. I also have the Kuhl Splash roll ups which are made from a different fabric and these Durangos definitely dry more quickly. Sounds great, right? Hold on!! Let's talk about the elastic drawstrings at the ankles. WHAT IS THIS? I understand the theory of this "feature", but it does NOT work. AT all. Especially on a petite person. It looks goofy, but makes me laugh when the skies are gray. It seems like the folks at Kuhl were looking for a new "convertible" feature (such as zip off shorts, etc) and this happened? Fortunately, they can be completely ignored. Just wear the pants as pants.

They look great on but as I wore them throughout the day the seams on the waistband began chafing my stomach. And now I can't return them since they've been worn.

I bought size 8 and it fit well. I am 5'3", 130lbs. I got the 32" inseam, as my inseam measures 29" and I prefer a longer length (32) than length right at the top of my shoe (30). The carbon color was a dark charcoal gray and I liked the pockets. What I didn't like, and why I returned the pants, was at the hem there are fabric tabs that stick out so you can ruche the pants and make the opening a little smaller. If I had known about the tabs being visible I would not have bought these pants. Otherwise, I like them and would have kept them.

My favorite Kuhl pants for hiking. I love the waist line and elasticity, seriously. Better than brand At***ta, more comfortable. Plus, I adore the zippered pockets, one on each leg. One for ID, cash, etc, one for truck keys. I've bought 2 pairs in different colors. As a short folk, it was nice to find a pair of hiking pants that roll up and hold in place easily for hiking. My favorite hiking pants.

Really comfortable. I ordered maybe 4 different kinds of pants on here, including other Kuhls, Columbia... these were the most comfortable. The elastic waist is nice and these are hands down my choice for a long plane ride overseas. I'm a little overweight right now, 5'4" about 130-135 and I am comfortable in both the 8 and 10

This is my second pair of Kuhl hiking pants. I have the Trekr/Hykr pant as well. The Durango one has a similar fit, with slightly more width in the legs. I bought a 6, which is my normal size. They are form-fitting in the hips, but the 6 is still the best size for me. I don't like pants that are too baggy, nor do I like them too tight. The little bit of stretch in these makes the fit perfect.

Just got my second pair in carbon because I like them so much. I wore them almost constantly in Italy in October and they are my go to pants when I want to be comfortable but not grubby. Important: I got my first size 12 Regular from REI but they are not carrying them now. From Zappos I first ordered 12-30 but they turned out to be too short in the crotch. I replaced them with 12-32 which turns out to be 12-Regular. This pair fits well like my REI pair.

They are actually kind of cute. I sized up. Normally wear an 8 and went to a 10. They aren't to big in the waist because of the knitted waist band. I am going to order another pair. Bought these for a trip to Africa, but might actually wear them around home. thanks

This is my third pair of KUHL Durango pants. For me they are the perfect pants and I wear them all the time - really all the time. I bought my first pair for the knit waistband and the other two because I loved the first pair so much. They are supremely comfortable without looking baggy. There are 6 pockets which add almost no bulk. And, since these are hiking pants, I should say that in that capacity they are truly excellent. I wore these hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc and had absolutely no trouble with chafing or any other discomfort. They are nicely water repellent so the few rain showers mostly slid right off and those that didn't dried very quickly. There are two style features that I, personally, would change. The first is the drawstrings at the bottom of the pant legs. Since I never use them, I just cut them off. The second is the waist hight. I would prefer a slightly higher waist.
I'd also recommend:
I also love the Lucy Get Going pants, also due to the knit waistband

I love my Kuhl Durango pants! They are comfortable and light weight... perfect for travel. My first pair went to Eastern Europe and I just bought two more in other colors for my trip to Asia. They are true to size and wear well for the long flight.

I originally bought these Durango Kuhl pants last year at REI. This year I couldn't find them in the store or on line. i did find them at Zappos. This style is not only flattering and comfortable, but it is light weight and wrinkle free for traveling. I wore them day after day touring in South America and they were comfortable in 100 degree weather as well as cooler weather. I washed them in the sink at night and hung them up and they were dry and wrinkle free the next day. I was thrilled to be able to find them in another color and have them delivered so quickly by Zappos. I found they ran true to size.

Love these pants!!! So much I bought them in a different color. They are very durable and look good while your getting messy in them. Water resistant and I'm not picking them up all day. Wore them rock sliding and hiking in Belize and they held up like a champ.

These pants are great. I've been slowing collecting all that I need for an African Safari next year. I have these in khaki (2 pair) and 1 breen. They are very comfortable, can be sinched up to make them a little more casual, and I'm able to wear them to work. I'm 5'4" and say, and 'athletic build' (I have thick legs and a smaller waist). These pants fit perfectly and aren't too long like so many others. Love Kuhl!

This 32" inseam pant seems shorter than other Kuhl pants with a 32" inseam. It would be terrific if Kuhl offered a 33" or 34" inseam pant!
