This bag a a lot of potential to be a great day pack but falls short. After looking at the bag in its entirety, this seems to be a durable, well-made and rugged bag. The one thing that baffles me is the Kangaroo pocket. It has the Water Tight external zipper, however, it has a garage zipper on the upper and lower portion of the zipper. I would think the lower garage zipper would collect water during inclement weather. In addition, there are 2 holes below the zipper as well. If you have anything that needs to be kept dried in this pocket, I would put something at the bottom to keep your items above the 2 holes. I have not used this during a rainy day yet so, I'll see how this fares. I would have like to have a removable hip belt which is a good option to have if you don't need to use it. Despite the description says it can hold a 15" laptop, there isn't a separate dedicated pocket inside . There are no other smaller pockets inside to store small items which would be a good to have. There is the Hydration bladder sleeve which has the potential to be be used as an inner pocket if you don't use a bladder at all but it is fairly deep. I do like the thick padded shoulder strap as as well as a small padding on the bottom which provide some protection. I also like the fact that it has a Thermoformed backpanel for those days where I may be carrying a heavier load, not many packs have this kind of feature. I have compared this to other brands and this seems to offer the better features, however, there is no daypack that has everything that I've wanted in a day pack. I would have given it a 5 star but didn't due to the design of the Kangaroo pocket, lack of removable hip belt and no internal pockets.

It would be 5 stars if there were couple more pockets inside of the backpack, but that is a minor issue. The size and the weight are just right for my daily commute. I am glad to purchase this backpack.

I bike throughout the city and have been using this backpack for a few months, I am looking to by a different backpack. The arro 22 has a great exterior shell that protects what you carry inside from rain. I do not like the design of this backpack, there is a wide bottom that creates wasted space because it gets so narrow as you the zipper runs up to close the pack. The little divots at the bottom of the yellow zipper collect sand and crud easily. There are pointless straps that do nothing, barley any storage. This backpack is only nice if you have 5 items to carry.

Only had this product for a year and main zipper does not work anymore. Straps on backpack have already begun to fray as well. Disappointed as it has only been used lightly and for commuting around school.

Pros: Comfortable and well made with durable materials. Nice on your back when cycling.
Cons: tapered shape means the top doesn't hold much. Not a good commuter pack as I will have lunch, shoes, computer and a lock and its a struggle to get them all in it.
Binders do not fit well and its not a good school bag.

A bought the Arro for a daily bike commute. It's been on my radar for a while now as I like the design aesthetic. The reality is that pack isn't suitable for use on a bike as it sits a little high on the shoulders and interferes with a helmet.
The fairly stiff back meant I couldnt get a comfortable fit. Even as a walking commute pack it fails as it has little in the way of back ventilation, its relatively heavy and the overall design means it's hard to pack anything efficiently. Side pockets are near to useless. A case of form over function and in need of a redesign.
It's disappointing that Arc'teryx don't have a technical, rather than a design biased, bike commute pack in their line up. It wouldn't be a stretch to repurpose the forthcoming SK32 pack, reducing the volume, to fill this void.

So, this bag is a bit of a strange creature.
When you look at it on the site it seems like it can hold quite a bit while keeping a very ergonomic form. But in reality, it can barely hold anything because the form is so restrictive.
The pack itself has an absolutely bazaar concave curve to it that is maintained by this sheet of plastic that acts as a sort of spine. I'm not sure what the design theory is behind this but it really kills any kind of comfort while wearing the back because the ends of the curve are against your upper and lower back while maintaining this air gap in the middle. Maybe they were thinking this would help prevent sweat by keeping the pack off the center of your back? Who really knows, the point is it's very uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.
The slimness of the pack also prevents you from carrying much of anything inside and you have to force most of it in because of the concave shape. I can usually pack in a water bottle, wireless headphones, my kindle and a pair of shoes and it's full - as in struggling to zip it up full.
Oh and those side pockets you see in the photos, they're so far back on the pack when it's on that you can barely reach them. Dislocating my shoulder to put my car keys away isn't really an option Arcteryx.
Overall, the entire bag feels like a second year industrial design student project. It has some nice lines, a couple of good ideas - but in the end it just doesn't work. For everyone giving this thing 5 stars it must be their first pack outside of a department store special.
That being said, the materials are holding up very well, that might be because Im no longer using it very often though.
Arcteryx, you have and can make far better products than this.

Why put watertight zippers on the front and then put two holes at the bottom on the kangaroo pocket? Water will find it's way through the path of least resistance. They should make something to cover those holes. There is like one situation where you want those holes - when its raining and you want to dry your waterproof stuff so the water drains out of the bottom and onto your waterproof bottom. It does not make sense. Can't use it for a camera or anything else. Awful design from a great company. Avoid it if you need REAL water protection from rain, snow, splashing, etc.

I bought this backpack about a year ago and used it three times. The Kangaroo pocket is made of some plastic material which attracts dirt and is impossible to clean. I have bought many Arcteryx products but this backpack is a real disappointment.

I'm really disappointed in this backpack. Even though the website clearly states "Fits a standard 15" laptop" under pack pocket configuration- there's no way to secure a laptop inside the pack. They might as well tell you that you can hold a bowling ball inside it. There's no functionality at all built in for laptops. The pack lacks useful inside pockets. There is a mesh sleeve for a water bladder- bot no other place to secure smaller items. The front pocket is very large and, if opened while being worn, allows things to spill out.
