I like, but I do not love this case. It has a super streamlined design that sacrifices some convenience for the sake of minimalism. For example, the backpack straps tuck away into a tiny little pocket that barely fits the straps. Most convertible bags have a large hidden back panel that easily swallows up backpack straps. Here, that compartment is so tiny that you have to carefully fold the straps then stuff them in, taking more time in the situation you are mostly likely to need quickness: when being forced to check luggage. There are very few seams on the outside of the bag, but the zipper is forced to wrap around several sharp angles that keep it from zipping smoothly. The zipper pulls are tiny even for my small hands. When worn as a backpack, the silhouette is so devoid of shape that it looks like a trash bag. The backpack straps are thin and sharp, guaranteeing digging into your shoulders. In fact, the straps are shaped like knife blades! Okay, those are the complaints. It just seems to me that Arc'teryx stuck so stubbornly to a brief to keep this bag minimal at the sacrifice of function. However, I do at the same time admire the purity of this bag. There are people who truly will only need one big compartment that will appreciate this. Having four simple grab handles on all sides is great. They do not need to be padded because you can grab two at a time. The looks is strangely austere in a militant way. That was probably by design. And it looks a hell of a lot better than the garishly logo'ed Ospreys out there. If it were up to me, I would fatten up the backpack straps just a smidge, tuck them into a larger hidden panel. Then added a few creases around the edges to give it shape, and tied some bigger zipper pulls. Oh, and make that "magazine pocket" unzip at the bottom so the whole thing can be slipped over a wheel suitcase. Not as sexy but way more useful.

I have owned this bag for several years now, it is light weight, soft sided, yet tough and strong. It is perfect for short trips, carries all you need, and being soft sided fits in even the smallest over head compartment on any aircraft. The shoulder straps are comfortable, the handles on both sides and both ends are strong and well placed. With many trips completed this bag shows very little signs of wear, definitely recommended.

Do yourself a favour and buy one. Light as a feather, tough and very convenient. Opens to a large open compartment and the sides hold their shape to make packing a breeze and easy access. Good sized outer and inner sleeve compartments for laptop, travel papers, power cords etc...40l size is perfect for a carry-on. Handles on top, bottom and both ends for easy pick up, carry and stowing. My daughter borrowed it for a week long trip and travelled by air. When she got home she said it was "amazing" and wanted one of her own.

A perfect piece of luggage. Fits spot on in over head storage on the plane.
Tough and very durable!
Nice and light weight as to no real loss in weight allowance.

I realise today that I've had this bag for almost 8 years. 8! I hardly have anything that old which has had to withstand regular use.
This is my go-to Weekender or carry on. Period.
It's sleek, it's lightweight, it still looks as good as new (no colour fading or abrasions), and it's timeless.
I'd buy again and highly recommend it

This is a great weekend bag. I use this whenever I travel away for a few days and don't need to bring too much. It fits well on an airplane (both in the overhead cabin and underneath the seat). The bag also has a very durable construction, as soon as you touch it you can tell that its a bag you will have for a long time.
Arc'teryx is usually on the higher end when it comes to pricing of its products (compared to its competitors), but this bag is definitely a great price for what you get.

Best bag I have used for a 2 week trip (to warm climates.) More room than I needed; just roll your clothes and there is plenty of space. Very much prefer it over the Osprey Porter 46 due to internal straps, structured shape and a cleaner look. Great for both professional and leisure travel. I most often use one of the straps and carry it "sling style" (purse is on other shoulder.) Don't think I will ever check a bag again. Could use another zippered pocket accessible from the outside.

I much prefer this bag with shoulder straps to one with wheels and a retractable handle that take up storage room. It also makes this bag so lightweight and easy to carry. I like that it opens up all the way and has some useful packing pockets. The internal compression straps come in handy too.

I've taken this on 3 trips all ready, and I'd have to say that it's been pretty good at what it does. Going from a rollaboard to one of these is like night and day. I get into the plane, and get off the plane with ease. No longer am I struggling to pull my luggage out of the overhead, I just grab one of the sides, pull it down and I'm on my way. At first I thought the pack was too bulky, but I actually like the foam inserts that help the pack retain the shape. Once you open it up, there's a large cabin to fit everything. Buy yourself some packing cubes and you quickly become super efficient and can compact more stuff. You will need to think about the weight factor for this pack because the shoulder straps a pretty thin, but I think the designers did this for a reason, to keep the weight off. However, if you're in the airport, you're not going to have this on for too long, so the straps are adequate. I imagine you can add some padding if you wanted to, but to keep it minimalist, you can just endure it. Get a cart if you need it for the long haul. There is extra slack from the nylon straps, you can clip them in place or use a rubber band. Clean up on the pack is just wipe clean, easy enough to do. It does seem like it will hold up, I guess time will only tell. For the price, I'd say that this is mid range for what you get, but I'm beginning to like this pack more and more as it's smaller than the Patagonia MLC and larger than my other packs. Kind of right in the sweet spot. If you can get this at a good deal, I'd say go for it.

What's great about this bag is the simple volume and how easy it is to travel with. The way it is structured means you can make the most of the space to fit stuff in. The rectangular shape is deep enough and padded which allowed me to live out of the bag without having to rummage through it as you do with a duffle bag shape and things were well contained. The compression straps are well placed so you don't have to dig around for them.
I guess it depends on how light you pack but this bag was sufficient for me to use for a week surf trip but also a few days of x-country skiing and other short trips, so I would say it gives more than an overnight bag.
The inside pocket is also a good size for fitting in notebooks/magazines, etc..
Top, bottom and side grab handles are actually more used than I would have thought, really easy to grab and go...
It has been left on the snowy ground and so far seems ok!
I have worn it both as a backpack and thrown over the shoulder or just use the carrier handles. All work. In backpack mode the plastic part which regulates strap length cut a tiny bit into my shoulder but it was not major, and I guess this is the trade off on something weightier and more bulky so I am okay with this lighter set-up. I found the straps a bit long so if the bag was thrown on to a trolley they were dragging under the wheels but this also happens with my other packs.
I have a small frame and found this pack still worked well for me.
I have taken it on 4 airlines and so far has been accepted as carry on each time.

This is a perfect overnighter carry on bag for anyone who require to look modestly "corporate" yet ready for weekend fun. Well padded and blight internal fabric keep contents organized & secure. They fit majority of commercial planes overhead bin from E170 up to A380. There are grab handles on almost all corners. My only complaint is the minimalistic straps...they slip sometimes and also not super comfortable, but they are good compromise for the intended usage. Carbon color turned very nicely worn out after a single domestic trip, which is cool with me. Price is...justifiable. I'd buy other size to see how they work out for longer duration trip. I'd also like Arc to make a wheeled luggage one day, that will be really sick.

Handles and wheels take up too much space for the current carry-on rules. This pack is perfect for what I was looking for; lightweight, compressible, with sensible storage compartments. The only gripe I have is that the straps are missing... something. But its still super functional and better than any other bag I've come across yet.

This is a great travel bag for weekends, though it would really benefit from having the metal zipper pull tabs on the main zip, as it's often challenging to pull open around the curves of the zipper without them. The structure of the bag is great, and helps set it apart from others. I also like how wide-pen the top gets, easily allowing you to fill it up without having to jam everything in (like you do on Arcteryx's other duffles). Of course it also looks great and has a nice, muted exterior fabric, and is well-made. the other other improvement they could make is to add another stealth pocket somewhere. But other than that if they're would just add the zipper pull tabs (preferable nickel-plated), this thing would be perfect.

I've been using the Covert Case for over a year now, it's been on countless trips ranging from 3 days to 3 weeks. When packed correctly, I can have 3 weeks worth of gear in this pack.
It's got amazing structure, it opens nicely so you can see the contents well and if you roll your stuff, the straps help compress it and keep it together. It's a great pack worn on a single strap and it does turn a lot of heads on flights. I like that I can put it under the seat in front of me just as easily as the overhead bin. The fact that it's padded allows me to have my computer and a kindle in it without their pelican cases.
The issue I've had with it is with the straps, they are not comfortable for very long periods of time. The bag is very light empty and even with clothes in it is quite comfortable, although carrying other items such as a computer or field equipment can render the straps uncomfortable.
Overall I'm very, very happy with the Covert Case C/O and I would recommend it to anyone who travels as frequently as I do.

I really like the size of the case and all the options for carrying it. The zipper pockets are well placed for magazines or a tablet. Definitely worth a look.

Amazingly light and practical pack. Takes my gear for 2-3 weeks and hauls up to 10kg.
The two catches:
1. The straps are not fully engineered through. In order to make it work as backpack or as duffel bag there is significant over-length which needs to be stowed away. A smarter solution e.g. velcro strap is required to avoid straps from being in the way all the time. This can be solved by yourself.
2. The straps can slip through the buckles. A little bit of fixing with rubber/velcro can solve this.
3. If used as a backpack, it looses form and looks really like a "bag". In addition, beyond a weight of 5-7 kg, it also gets quite uncomfortable. Here a bit or stronger reinforcement could help a lot, eg. as it is used in the Veilance Nomin backpack (which I use for shorter trips). Good organization inside and use of the compression straps helps, but doesn't really solve the problem.
I can recommend it, but it does not entirely live up to expectations when having the price in mind.

The dimensions for European carry-on bags are 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Checking a bag is often more expensive than the actual short haul ticket! The Covert Case looks great, but has anyone had problems with its size when checking in Europe??

Very nice bag, very easy to pack and the perfect weekend bag or 1-2 night business trip. The fact that the whole lid opens makes it much better than most bags of this size. I really wanted one with a should strap and could be used as a backpack. However, this is where the bag has an issue or two. The staps fold away in to a pocket when not needed and then you clip them on when required. However, the clip is fixed to the base of the bag. This means that the adjustment just does not work. For the strap length to be set and stay in place, like most straps, load needs to be inline with the straps and buckle. However, as it's fixed to the base, the strap comes out of the buckle at an angle and therefore no matter what you so, they extend to their maximum length. I'm 6'3" and they're effectively too long for comfortable carrying. Ok (but not idea) as a should strap but as a backpack it's a big let down. Overall, quality is let down by straps and whilst it's smarter than my TNF, it's not as functional.

I wanted to make this bag work - so much !!! I love the simple rectangle design, it holds a nice shape without being too rigid. You can pack oddly shaped or tall items, simply and it looks very nice when its closed - like nothing else on the market. However the bag does not carry well or comfortably in any configuration. As a side carry bag the handles are not sufficient and tucking the shoulder straps away is a process. In the backpack configuration the shoulder straps are set further back form a normal backpack so it causes the bag to fold in the middle. Additionally since there is not proper backing to lay against your back, it has no support, does not allow air to pass - and because of the material - it pulls and moves your shirt/jacket around as you walk. The 'strap tuck away' features seem only partially realized and nothing ever truly tucks away cleanly - at least not to the aesthetics of the rest of the bag - that goes for the compression straps as well. Also, excess straps EVERYWHERE. The shoulder straps are bonkers long, one person said they touched the ground, I thought they were exaggerating, they do. I would be interested in hearing from a product specialist why these straps are so long. The zipper pull tabs are extremely short, it makes closing and opening the bag a pain. Laptop compartment ... I don't know what else to say other than it's 2018 and this is a bag designed as a carry-on yet has no laptop compartment ... I really wanted to love this bag. I wished, or hope in the future, they just commit to making this a backpack - it would be a game changer !

I used it for 5 journeys. Bad design. My wife had a Patagonia bag that was a lot better because it was more confortable and less bulky to carry by handle or shoulder straps. On the Arcteryx the handle is not padded the design of the shoulder straps is not ergonomic; worse, these straps are too longs (they touch the ground) when the bag is carried by the unpaddled handle and very hard to retract compare to the Patagonia. The Arcteryx is also very bulky when empty. But it is easier to fill and more voluminous inside compare to the Patagonia.
