Very versatile, can layer up for NYC winter and also just one layer for autumn/spring. I like the fitting and stretchness of it, but I really don't like the big logo on chest.

Out of the box, the Gamma MX Hoody is like most Arcteryx gear I've purchased. Well designed with high end materials and construction. What's from 2020 Gamma MX jacket that I liked so much that I bought two of and wear daily year round? The material. I love the old Gamma MX. I'll circle back once I use the redesigned 2024 product with an updated review. What else changed? Cuff design. These look ok and incorporate an elastic product, but the old ones held up in daily wear and still work well after 3 plus years. The fit is said to be different as well. But after a 50 pound weight loss and ordering a size smaller, I'm not a good judge at this point.

I wore the old version of this coat everyday for 10 years. It was a amazing coat. It is now a great coat. In short go back to the old fit! The good The pockets which were the first to break on my old coat are made much sturdier than the old one. These will not break anywhere near as easily as the old netting. The lining of the coat feels higher quality, it feels slightly warmer than the last coat. Which is a little weird because it's clearly been made to layer. But as a standalone nothing to complain about. It's still an extremely functional coat. Pockets aplenty, zips great, storm hood large and responsive The goodish First putting it on you can immediately can tell it's roomier, supposedly this is to allow for easier layering. I never had any problems layering anything under the old gamma so it feels unnecessary. However I played about layering some layers underneath and it definitely feels good. The bad Due to the changes the coat isn't as comfortable as it was. The aesthetic is also negatively affected. I wear it for functionality so I am less fussed for this but I can see why it. Would put people off. Conclusion It's a shame because I tried a gamma on in store only a few weeks ago before ordering and it was the old cut. Definitely prefer the old one, but as I said. Still a great coat

Not used for climbing etc but as an everyday piece .. Nothing wrong with the jacket however i can't see anything to rave about either .. Not the warmest softshell , I have a Mountain Equipment Vulcan which is all around better and at a fraction of the price ..

I have owned several Gamma MX models over the years. I run cold and I appreciated the added warmth of the fleece backer. This latest generation has a smaller hood which is a pro and a con. I appreciate the reduced bulk, but I am doubtful a helmet will fit comfortably anymore. Overall, the clean looks and quiet mobility make the MX my first choice for cold, dry days. My biggest knock has to be the cuff construction. The elastic is quite tight and the material bunches up right at the inside of my wrist which is irritating. I much prefer the older style cuff design.

I've owned a Gamma MX Hoody for years now, but recently my beloved MX was stolen and I had to replace it. I was psyched to see the Black Sapphire color come back up as a solid (without the purple band across the chest that to me looks ridiculous), so immediately I ordered my replacement. I've been complaining for a few years about Arc'teryx's decision to screw with the fit of their clothing, and while I understand what they're going for with a more "inclusive" fit model, the problem is that the clothes I used to love the fit of, now have been altered to fit much worse and this jacket is no exception. Have an "inclusive" line if you must, but the hardcore backcountry athletes that have loved and supported you for years are going to start going elsewhere if you keep wrecking the fit of the gear they depend on. I returned it (and will continue to return any re-buys that have had the fit screwed with). I've loved Arc for years and the fit has been incredible, but I've sent back 7 of the last 8 items I've ordered because either the fit is worse or the materials have been changed for cheeper (Cerium series, I'm talking to you - you feel like a cheap amazon knock-off now)

Wanted to get a MX Hoody for mostly winter uphill etc; have a MX jakcet from quite a few years back( and MX pants too) but as many would probably agree having a hood in inclement weather is really handy. Fit etc is all good but the first thing that really stood out is that this new hoddy is quite a bit lighter than my (old) MX jacket...feels more like the old LT. Will just have to try out different baselayers( Rho Lt/Phase etc) and see what works best fro those colder days.

I recently purchased the Gamma MX Hoody to replace my beloved but retired Gamma SV from 2006. I loved that jacket so much, and I guess my expectations were a bit high Despite the name, the MX is a totally different shell: the construction feels cheaper (but probably as strong, time will tell), the size fits regular in the body but tight under the armpits (didn't try to layer yet, but I have a feeling it won't be comfortable), no chin guard anymore (the hood is heavy and pulls the zipper against my chin if I don't put the hood on), definitely not fully windproof (I could feel a light breeze if wearing only a tshirt underneath). Don't take it wrong, it's great jacket but I was hoping for a similar alternative to my SV, so I went a bit disappointed, hence the 3 stars. The MX is still great grab-and-go jacket for shoulder seasons when you need a tiny bit of warmth on a light rainy day, just don't expect too much out of it, especially for this price point.

Absolutely love the old versions of this jacket which fit like a glove without restricting movement. I will not purchase this new version. This new model, which has the exact same name as older models, has less articulated arms with different panel designs and somewhat less stretchy material such that it no longer allows the same freedom of movement in the arms. Particularly when reaching full forward. The arm pocket for holding a resort pass has been deleted. The changes in the cuff design may actually be an improvement for those of us with large sports watches that tend to get trapped by the cuff, but I can't confirm that since I will not purchase this new model since it no longer is functional for most of my activities and going up a size just looks baggy. Arcteryx should create new product names or qualify them with a version number or some such instead of hiding significant redesigned products behind earlier successes. Like model years with cars, bicycles, etc, it would make purchasing used versions, gift giving, and reordering significantly easier.

Still my favorite build quality and jacket premise, but Arc'teryx did not seem to listen to the previous feedback folks offered on the jacket keep it trim, add some mobility in the chest/shoulder. The updated fit seems to offer a bigger belly and the same chest, which has been typical of the sizing updates in the last couple years. Sadly had to send it back, and hoping to see more offerings in the historical cuts that made Arc'teryx the go-to for me.

Not reliable as a layer for warmth. I purchased this thinking it would be a better jacket than a Atom but soon found out that the shell is extremely thin and did not offer any more warmth than a shell with out any fleece. I found that the DWR was not useful in situations where there is more than a bit of drizzle. If you plan on wearing this product be sure to have an actual Gore-Tex shell with you on top.

Fit is terrible, has the sleeves of a size small and the body of a large (size large purchased), the hood is tiny. Can't comment on the performance as it is getting returned whenever Arcteryx can fix their computer system.

This current MX is nowhere like the original MX's of 10 or so + years ago ( of which i have jacket, pants) - it's waaay lighter and far less thermal. It's pretty much an AR eqivalent at best( maybe even verging on LT). Pretty dissapointing as i thought having a hoody version would be great for COLD uphill days but this will definitley be a spring temp piece for here in th Rockies. Probably work on the coast or milder winter localities.

The first MX I bought was great the second not so great. Not water resistant and although the jacket was named the same as the first MX the quality had certainly deterated.

The plastic drawstring piece on the hat is poking my neck. Shouldn't it be designed to sit outside the jacket instead of inside? It's very uncomfortable.

I am disappointed about this iteration of Gamma MX Hoody. Arcteryx was the manufacturer to go with but lately and sadly the fitting is totally off. The last ones fitted superb in M but now it's too tight around the shoulders. I feel like cramped in instead of having a real good feeling. So this is why I returned the product. Sadly the size L is way too wide around my belly even if it would fit my shoulders, arms and chest, I cannot life with the tent like feeling over my stomach. In the past Arcteryx made stuff for the more athletic fit but now it's more for the mainstream. Don't be mad with me, but if you write that size M is the same you should deliver the same size and fit and not tighter jackets. It does have a good fit around my belly, but this pressed in feeling on the shoulders is a no-go for me. The other very disappointing part is that the seams on the arms / hands are so badly manufactured. It was so much better on the previous version. This version here would let a lot of air in. Please consider making it the classic Arcteryx way again. Dunno who is responsible for this "new" design but you should listen to your customers and as always - design should follow functions

Purchased this jacket in XL and was very pleased. Would love to replace the one I own, after some rough usage, but disappointed in the revisions. At this price point it should have GORETEX INFINIUM, Die-cut Velcro cuff adjusters, and pit zippers. Please consider adding these features in a future revision without increasing the price.

Tried it out but the fit is a big miss. Just overall seems to be made for a different more casual crowd. This was my go to jacket for winter hiking and biking as the fabric was tough, easy to layer with, and the fit was tight to keep out the cold. It's too loose and seems to be made for the bigger consumers. I'll be looking for used models of this jacket from years past instead as I need a replacement after literally wearing out one from 2018.

I ordered this shell because my last one failed and they warranted it. This one is similar to the last one but seems a little lighter. Unfortunately it has no pit zips and no straps on the cuffs. Arc Teryx is obviously cutting corners and trying to appeal to casual users. I'll probably sell it on the secondary market and buy a different shell from a company that doesn't cut corner. Disappointing.

I've been waiting for a decent blue-grey Gamma MX for seasons. Finally, the "Dk Stratus" color looks amazing on the Jacket version. But why, for the love of design, did you add those bright blue contrast pockets to the Hoody? The Jacket is sleek and monochromatic, while the Hoody looks like a DIY patchwork project. The contrast is jarring and cheapens the aesthetic of an otherwise high-end piece. We buy Arc'teryx for the minimalism and technical look, not for random pops of color that don't match. Please, give us a monochromatic Hoody option. This was a massive swing and a miss.

Arcteryx quality doesn't exist anymore. I recommend going somewhere else for a decent jacket. It's terrible but aI don't see the company lasting much longer just like their new products. Please don't reply to this review. I am so fed up with your lack of ability to do anything at all.

Jacket is great for Fall, Early Spring, Great Mid Base Layer. BUT: Arc'teryx Quality has gone down hill. Sizing is absolutely Wrong! Large is XLarge, Medium is Small. There is No Medium! Also Customer Service has declined drastically ! No Response To Customer Complaints! They Delete Negative Reviews Customer Service in Store is horrible, they try to sell you something you never asked for! For a jacket that's double the competition, I wolkd expect stellar customer service. Sadly Not No More from Arc'teryx!
