I had the medium roller bag, and although it fits the overhead bins, more airlines are starting to ask me to gate-check it as the bins fill up. I decided I needed something smaller, and this one fits the bill. It's a bit flatter than the medium bag.

I loved the ability to access items easily throughout my trip without worrying about digging through my belongings. It rolled well, which was important as I was maneuvering around Manhattan for its first trip. And having handles on all sides really came in handy. All-in-all, I was very pleased and have raved about this bag to my friends/family.

I got the SMALL size, so that I wouldn't have to worry about checking it. I haven't flown it yet, but my wife is very travel-savvy and approved it. She says I will never need to worry about checking it, international or otherwise. Phew.
So, for something that is going to be staying WITH me, I think the build quality is excellent- more than adequately durable. If it were NOT checked, well, I would still be confident in its survival, but its worth noting that there are luggage rollers out there that are a lot beefier in their construction.
Very light, and the design is fantastic. I like the clam-shell with the added ability to open from the front. Its just all very very well-made. I was concerned that small would be like back-pack small, but that's not at all the case. Everyone's needs are different but I could easily pack 4-5 days' worth of clothes in there- a few pairs of slacks/jeans, several shirts, underwear, a pair of shoes, etc etc. Very happy with this. I mentioned the slightly stiff main zipper - its no big deal, and actual a non-issue when the bag is really packed, for some reason. Its a high-quality zipper in any case, not to worry. If you are looking for a great carry-on roller I would definitely not hesitate to get this one.

I gave this to both of my kids upon graduating from High School, as their first piece of high quality adult luggage. They will think of me on every trip they take!!!

I'm a current commercial copilot that has been using the copilot for 2 months and this is my favorite suitcase ever in my current 12 year career. The skateboard wheels roll effortlessly on all surfaces. I have the small co-pilot which works for a 4 day trip in which I pack 2 additional uniforms, 1 pair of runners shoes, toiletry bag, jeans, sweater, underwear and additional light jacket.
The best part about this bag is it fits in the overhead bin wheels out on the old Southwest 737-300, the CRJ (regional jet meaning not waiting in the jetway), the E170 and all other domestic aircraft.
Second best part of the jet is the ability to access the suitcase from the front opening without opening the clamshell zipper.
The handle seems study so far also. I think I will get 4-5 years of weekly use out of this suitcase .
For non-work trips I think I would want the medium size.

It's a great bag, I can fit a lot, love the top pocket and the clam shell design. Wheels are good except on carpet. The only con is the material on the front gets scuffed and dirty easily.

I've been loyal to Timbuk2 for years now, and I usually use their backpacks for travel and day-to-day. I finally took the plunge with the Copilot and absolutely love it. I bought the Medium sized one to use for week-long trips and long weekends for conferences, work trips, and vacations. It does well for car trips and plane trips so far.
The suitcase is compact but holds a lot more than it appears, and the pockets make it easy to access everything. For example, the top pocket is great for toiletries and other things you need to access when you're going through airport security. It glides through airports and rougher terrain with its skateboard wheels too, though I know four wheels on the bottom would be beneficial for future models.
When I travel, I usually take lots of books, clothes (six shirts, two or three pairs of pants, socks, etc.), and two pairs of shoes, which fit well in the bag. The clamshell construction manages the weight well and makes my stuff feel safe. This design isn't for everyone (if you're staying in a small hotel, for example), but I really like how it helps me organize and separate my stuff, including dirty and clean clothes. During plane trips, it frees you up to take a backpack or laptop case and putting the Copilot in the plane's overhead. My laptop (MacBook Pro 15") can fit in the front pocket too.
I only have three nit-picky points about the bag: the zippers are sometimes difficult to close when the bag is packed. I also had to check the bag and had a hard time finding it at baggage claim when it was upside down. Still, these are minor issues and maybe my own fault.
Overall, I love the Copilot and would highly recommend it. It helps organize your stuff well, it's durable, it makes your travels easier, and it's super elegant!

I travel for work and this bag exceeds my needs. The separate compartments are great for organization. The exterior front compartment access is ideal for jacket storage. It provides easy access when space is limited. The wheels are clutch on a rough surface. I recently took the bag to Europe for a vacation and it handle uneven terrain (cobble stones, subway stops, people dodging) like a boss.

I own both the original Copilot and this ver. 2 Copilot. I like having the external flat pockets and the snap-back luggage tag of the ver. 1 better. I like the general style and shape of the ver. 2 better.

Love this bag but the brand logo is a dark color on top of a dark color so if you are more than a couple of feet away you can not tell there is even a tag making the bag seem generic when really it is rad. I ended up exchanging the color I chose to a different color that would have the Timbuk2 logo stand out and be proud:)

The wheels are quiet, smooth and super easy to maneuver. This is the best bag of this size I've ever owned and I want all my bags to be like this one. Super light, easy to pack and pleasant on the eye too!

My boyfriend has been a long time Timbuk2 fan and travels every week for work. He talks about his copilot bag and I didn't think it could be that much better than a normal carry on. I fell in love the minute it arrived. The wheels are so smooth, it has optimal storage and the colors are so pretty. Love everything about it. Thanks!

I just got back from 25 days in china. I thoughly enjoyed my self and pulling this bag was not only easy but I really love the style. This was my primary bag and i top it with a small back pack. Plenty of room and ways to access all of my stuff. This bag will follow me in a lot of countries on upcoming trips as I round the world.

I'm using this bag on a trip right now. Packed for 5 days and there is enough space. I live the easy access pockets and the organization on the inside of the bag. It's my new favorite travel bag.

I bought this for my last business trip. The wheels alone saved me. I got lost with a coworker, and ended up off roading it through a trail, cement stairs, and god knows what else, on the way to the hotel. (Shuttle abandoned us!)
My coworker fought with his the whole time, but this thing moved so easy. I nicked the paint on the back when I dragged it up two flights of cement stairs, but that was it. It was super rugged, and easy to drag all the way to the hotel.
The zippers are big, and sturdy, and the top compartment was great for putting last minute trip souvenirs for the family in, on the way onto the plane.
I have a small, because I pack light, and it barely fits a standard Delta aisle, while rolling. It fit perfectly in the overhead.
I was happy with this purchase, and happened to buy it full price. Just that trip to the hotel alone made me feel like I'd made a good decision. With all my work trips coming up, this is more than worth the cost after watching my coworkers all fight with their luggage.
