This bag is fantastic. Buy it!
I purchased it for a two-week trip to Italy. I wanted something that would let me avoid checking baggage, but also be big enough to hold two weeks' worth of clothes. This bag did the job perfectly! Because it isn't rigid, I was able to squeeze it into the overhead bins on all my flights.
The bag seems extremely durable, and has several pockets for all your stuff. And it converts into a backpack for long hauls. It also comes with a shoulder strap, which I found useful in crowded spaces like train stations where I didn't feel comfortable having it on my back (and out of sight).
The bag is awesome, and I'm glad I bought it. You will be too.

This is the best travel backpack ever! I spent a month traveling around Europe with this bag and a small roller carry on. It is functional and has many great features.

I have been traveling with an earlier version of this bag for years and could not complain. When that bag gave up the ghost, I looked at all options but finally purchased this bag, from Zappos. Having just returned from an eight-day trip with several climate changes, I could not be happier with my decision. Hands down, the best bag for carry-on if you don't want wheels, and an improvement over earlier versions (how often does that happen?). I carried it as a backpack and by both handles and found it easy to carry, to pack, and to stand up on both ends. The main compartments keep everything neatly stowed and provide a bit of compression. The two compartments on the outside have multiple pockets to stow documents and all other miscellany. Top marks in all categories. And Zappos, as always, shipped quickly and with no fuss. After seeing my experience with the bag, my husband has purchased his own.

I've been longing for a piece of luggage like this and I finally got it. I recently used this on my travels back east and not only was it super convenient at the airport but also the organization of the entire piece. It is definitely a convertible, stylish, easy to carry (all options) traveling item must have. I was gone over a weeks time and it was perfect. The only downside is I must say is that I wish it came in a variety of colors. But other than that. It's a must have!

I ordered this bag because of the great reviews it received and because I trust Patagonia quality. Have not used it yet, but will be taking this bag on a two week trip soon, and it seems to be very spacious and comfortable to carry (three different ways). Well made. Lots of zipper compartments; and seems to be much better than the traditional duffel bag.

No bag is perfect but this one comes pretty close for packing lightly. I packed it for a two week trip to Britain. This included a raincoat, lightweight parker and two fleeces. When packed it weighed about 18 lbs. We took public transportation, mainly trains, walking from our hotel to the station. The bag carries well on your back even without a waist strap although I would not recommend it for hiking.

I bought this bag for a trip to the UK, and it is performing really well. I will say color wise it is more green on the outside than it looks from the pictures, but I was more surprised by the highlighter yellow/green interior. Looking past that there is so much organization built into this bag the color was not enough of a reason to return it. I've had no trouble using it as carry on even on UK airlines where the carry on restrictions are tighter. The only reason I took a star off for comfort is because for me as a small person when this bag is packed full it's heavier than is comfortable for me. That being said the backpack feature is great and the handles on the bag feel really sturdy. It's very well made and I'd highly recommend it.

Used for a weeklong trip to Philadelphia. Backpack straps turned airport slog to pleasant stroll. Interior pockets are well designed and exterior remained clean throughout travel. Taking the pack next week for a trip to Oakland, and can't wait!

I've taken this with me on a 2 week trip to Europe. It was extremely comfortable with the backpack straps! It fit enough stuff for my vacation and it also did well when I checked it on my flight back to fit gifts. Super durable and comfortable!

I was all set to buy the The Tri-Star from Tom Bihn, a midsize carry-on travel bag with lots of cool features. But I happened to see this bag and went with it instead. Why? Basically price. The Tom Bihn bag is $$$, and the shoulder strap is $$ extra. Shipping is at least $$ and more if you're in a hurry. So with the Patagonia you get basically the same bag for $$$ less. And did I mention that the Patagonia bag is bigger (45L vs 33L)? A clear choice.

I got this bag because I wanted a lightweight carry on that I could use in place of my 22" roll aboard, but could still hold enough clothes for 3-4 days. The first one I received had a defective zipper, but Zappos fixed the problem swiftly as usual and had a new bag on the way to me before I even sent the old one back. This bag has plenty of room for a long weekend trip. If you're experienced with packing light, you should be able to pack this bag for a week long trip. One of the features I really like is the straps that allow you to convert it into a backpack. There are also many compartments that would make this useful for business trips. There are better bags out there, but you will pay a lot more for a more heavy duty or purpose built bag. Overall I think this bag was a good purchase and I would recommend it to friends and family looking for a good carry on.
