I guess it's all about trade off's?? I wanted a light hiking boot for faster day hikes where I'm carrying under 20lbs. I'm not a fan of ultralight footwear as I weigh 195lbs and hike on rough terrain here in New Mexico. These seemed like they would fit the bill. They fit pretty good right out of the box. I have a fairly narrow foot and I was able to tighten the laces enough to get a nice secure fit, but they are wider in the forefoot than my normal go to brand of boots Lowa. The ankle support was great and good cushioning in the heel but the cushion was minimal in the forefoot. The tread is also very minimal and I can't see these lasting more then a few months of hard use. This is not a boot I would ever use on rough terrain or off trail. Smoother trails it would work out ok. After my first 6 mile hike a rock cut a chunk out of the tread near the heel and I was having to carefully watch where I placed my footing and rockier terrain because I could feel sharp rocks in the forefoot area. I couldn't imaging caring a heavy pack all day in rocky terrain with these boots. If these things were only a bit beefier and used a PU midsole I think they would be perfect. But for now they are going back to Zappos and I'll try the Asolo Fugitive GTX as a light hiker.

I bought these a few days before a two week trip to Italy, France and Spain where I knew I would be walking several miles a day. I have a total ankle replacement on one ankle and severe arthritis on the other. I was a little worried not knowing these shows but still went all in with them after trying them on. They were awesome. Several others shoes are headed to goodwill after the Europe trip. Highly recommend these. Light weight but very good ankle support.

Nice boots. Very light. Bought for a recent ruk and they performed very well under the weight of a pack.

I got these to compare to the Asolo Reston, which I was considering. For me the fit of these is better - they are a bit wide.I kept these instead of the Asolo's. I tested them on out on an uphill climb (the Grouse Grind in Vancouver, which is not what I bought them for) and they worked well - no hot spots and no break-in required. I am usually a 10 1/2 and these fit that perfectly.

The shoe is an overall winner. I did choose to use super feet insoles to replace the inadequate insoles that come with the shoe. I find that most shoes need an aftermarket insole in order to provide the most stability and cushion. The ankle support is great and the shoe is very lightweight for being a hiking shoe. It is certainly a shoe for the heavy backpack carrying hiker. However, it does fit the niche for someone who wants a lightweight, quality constructed shoe that offers water as well as additional ankle protection.

Comfortable like sneakers! These boots feel incredibly light, it's like wearing regular shoes until you realize your ankles are covered. They appear to be fairly well constructed, I have worn them around the house a lot, to break them in, but haven't taken them out yet. They seem fairly sturdy, but they are definitely not the all one piece design of the leather boots that I'm used to. We'll see how durable they are after a few hikes. My only complaint, is that for hiking boots, they look a lot more like the sneakers that they are probably based off. That excess red and black is very quote un-outdoorsy"

Very comfortable and solid feeling. But they are too slippery on wet rocks for what I need.
