I like these boots. They fit my athletic calves which is hard to find (16.25"). They are comfortable and they are weather proof, but they look weather proof. They are not as sleek as I was hoping for. But those with athletic calves can't be too picky.

This isn't a bad review...it's more neutral because it it just didn't work for me . I could tell that the boot is probably pretty comfortable but the foot bed width felt a little narrower than I was expecting when I ordered the size 9 - M(C). It is possible it just seemed that way to me because the tow area was definitely pointier than it looks in the picture and I'm used to wearing shoes and boots with a lot of wiggle room width for the toes. I measured the calf circumference on my boots at home and purchased based on that. Although this one measured the same it was a tighter fit? Overall it seemed to be a decent boot & well constructed. I would say that it is worth the experiment with free returns. Everyone's body is shaped different so you may not have the same experience I did.

I've been on the hunt for wide calf tall boots for years. Literally, years. Like other reviewers, most "wide-calf" boots that I've tried have been too tight at the top and made my legs go to sleep after a few minutes, if I could zip them up at all. Finally, I found these boots from Rockport which fit the bill. As a teacher, I'm on my feet most of the day. These have enough padding and support to keep my feet happy. I'm 5'8" with chunky calves and these come to just under my knee AND they zip up all the way - thanks to the goring in the back. I loved my black pair so much that I just bought another pair in brown. My only negative - I'm not a fan of the Rockport logo that is featured so prominently on the side, but I can live with it for tall boots that are super comfy.

I have had these boots for a year, they are comfortable, fit well, and I get a lot of compliments. The panel in the back is starting to wear and I discovered a hole near the sole today. I have worn them a lot however I was hoping they would last a little longer, I am a little disappointed. Overall these are great boots.

Finally! A tall boot to fit my 16 1/2" calves...and although I don't love elastic in the back, it doesn't look as bad as I feared it might. The leather is very nice and I like the brown color a lot. I'm keeping these. Like that they are waterproof too.

These JUST barely zipped over my skinny jeans- size 7.5 boot over my 16.5" calf. It was a bit of a wrestling match though. They are going back in favor of a different brand that zipped without effort. The shoe part was on the roomier side- I'd need a thick pair of socks to not slip around. The quality of these boots is on the higher side. They seem like they would hold up well. They also have some kind of waterproofing, which would be nice if you wanted all-weather boots. Not as dressy as some if you are looking for that.

Loved this boot. Unfortunately it was not wide enough for my calves. I could zip the boots up but they were tight. And the right one was unbearably so around the ankle area. I was afraid wearing them all day might cut off my circulation :). Too bad because they are a really nice boot. Not fancy but a more casual, rustic style.

Just opened the box and so far, so good! I am extremely particular about shoes and the littlest things can turn me away from a pair. I took a chance on these as I do have athletic calves. To provide a few measurements, my calves are 16.5" at their widest point. I am also 6', so taller boots are necessary. After trying these boots on, I had approx 1/2" of space around the top of the boot. This will be perfect for jeans or leggings underneath. I also prefer the space so the boots don't look too tight. A size 9M measures 17" circum at the top of the boot. Measuring from the base of the footbed (not including the heel of the boot) to the top of the boot, it's 16" behind the knee and 17" in front. There is no slouching in this boot at all and it's not a shiny leather like most out there. They're the perfect brown for jeans and black leggings. Winners! Thank you Zappos!

This is my first review for Zappos. This boot is really awesome. I have 16 in. calves and size 7 feet but this is the first boot pair that i can wear and close that can accommodate my calves! Amazing! The stretch goring at the back really worked it's magic. I am really pleased!!!

These have great color and nice quality. The stretchy part in the back doesn't stand out so much and it does a great job of keeping the boot close to your leg while still allowing legs with big calves to zip up. The wide is a true wide, but for some reason one toe on my right foot gets sore when I walk in these boots for a full day. It's not from chafing though; it seems to be something about the shape of the toe area and the length of my middle toes.

The search is over! I've tried for years to find a pair of tall black boots that fit my calves (wide) and my ankles (not) and these are it.They are very slimming and hit just below the knee - I do have long legs, so this was an added bonus. My feet are narrow to average, so if you have wider feet, go with the C width. Thank you, Zappos!

The leather is really rugged yet soft. I am sending the boots back to get a whole size larger. I wear a 9.5-10 and I got the 10 today and they are way too small. If you are borderline between med and wide, definitely order the wide width too. I hope the size up fits... these could be the boots I was looking for! They are tall and really stand up, rather than bunching around my ankles. The calf is tight on me, but I need at least 18" for comfort.

These boots looked fantastic on my size 10 1/2 foot! I stand 5'10" and I really felt like I was wearing riding boots. They hit a couple of inches below my knee - very nice! Also, they fit very comfortably around my 17" calf. The goring did not detract from the sleekness of the boot. Although I was very pleased with the way the boot looked on me, I was very disappointed with the quality of the leather. I kept sniffing the boot to see if it smelled like leather. After all that sniffing, I am still not sure if the boot is leather. I guess the hydro shield masked the smell of leather. Also, the back of the boot was lower than I anticipated, but overall the boot is very attractive. Alas, my search for a riding boot continues.

I usually wear a 7.5 W, and I sometimes have trouble with even wides not being wide enough. I ordered these in an 8W thinking it would give me a bit of extra space, but it turns out these boots run true to size. The 8W was a bit too big for me in length, and its width was generous, which meant that the boots rubbed too much on my foot. The elastic gore fit my 17" calves, though the elastic is a bit tough to stretch and putting the boots on was a little like putting on a dress with a tight zipper: you know it'll go up, but you need to hold the edges closed first to get the zipper moving. I did have a bit of a problem with the boot shaft at ankle level; the leather is soft and not stiff in the shaft, and it seemed to wrinkle right at my ankle bone and make the zipper push in uncomfortably on me there. I'm not sure if that's a defect in the boot, or because they were a bit too big on me, or just because at 5'1", my leg anatomy is shorter than the boots are designed for. The footbed is neither unsupportive nor fantastically supportive; I usually wear Orthaheel shoes and the support in these boots is (obviously) nowhere near Orthaheel's overwhelming support, but neither are these flat or unpadded. For someone looking for some basic arch support, the footbed here is fine, and in fact it's supportive enough that I was able to wear them without my plantar fasciitis flaring up, though I wouldn't want to take a hike in them. Despite my sizing issues, I do love the look, quality, and styling of the boots, and I've put in an exchange for a 7.5W (thank you, wonderous customer service staff, for making that an exceptionally painless experience!) hoping that the right size will make the fit, well, right.

Great fit. I wear 6.5 shoe size with a large calf. Comfortable right away. I Can tug in jeans, Waterproof big plus. Since I am short a little high on back of knee but stretched out fast.

These are not wide enough for my 16½" calfs. I want boots that I can zip up without having to make sure both sides of the boot are close together so I can zip them all the way. This was close, but not good enough. Yes, I could zip them and they were comfortable, but no way can you wear these over pants unless you have small calves in which case, I am not sure why you are getting wide calf boota. I measured me and my trainer measured me and I am a 16½" (if not a touch smaller). Lastly, I am normally a size 8 and these were too big. I sent them back.

These are going back, I am not really happy with the style. The height of the shaft is great... but there is a large elastic gore in the back to accommodate the calves which is not to my style desires... just not happy with the style.

Tried several different boots - the calves were too narrow on these and my toes felt squished together side to side. Wasn't super fond of the texture of the leather or the big medallion logo on these either. Glad returns are so easy.

I have a very wide calf and although these fit that really well, the actually width of the shoe where my foot sits was much to narrow and normally I can get away with a normal or wide width shoe depending on the maker because my feet aren't very wide. I was quite surprised then that after ordering the wide width in these they weren't even close to fitting. Length of the shoe was a bit longer but pretty true to size.

Bought the item after reading reviews. The size stated on the description listed a 17 circumference. It was not 17.

I have been looking for an attractive boot that is somewhat dressy with good support, and I had high hopes for these. They felt true to size and fairly comfortable, but they look more like work boots or rugged snow boots. The shaft fit my muscular calf, but the shaft didn't seem to taper at all and so the ankles were baggy and sloppy. Overall, I was disappointed and sent them back.

Despite 3 exchanges these boots just would not zip up over my calf. I measured the circumference each time and it was always 15.5" and not 17" as started in the product description. Either the product description is wrong or I kept getting the non-wide calf version of these boots. Shame because I thought the boots were cute and fit really well until I got to my calf and could zip no further.

Okay, just got these in the mail...I'm 62 live on a ranch and got my first pair of boots when I was 6. These boots seem fairly well made and the wideness of the shank is wide where is should be...about 4 to 8in. down from the middle of your knee. My calves are 15.5in and these fit perfectly, in the shank. Don't know if you could wear jeans tucked in but that is a social boo boo in our neck of the woods. Arch support so so. These, however, are not wide. I have a pair of women's Ariat that are regular width and that is about as wide as these are.I'll wear them for fancy occasions where I won't be on my feet all the time (I couldn't resist, they are red). I find it harder and harder to find boots that aren't narrow. These boots are plain and simple...but my big toe joint is too cramped so back to the drawing board...maybe some of the snazzier boots with straps and stuff will fit..not holding my breath. I need some nice looking boots I can walk a lot in.

I love these nice leather water proof boots, especially with the comfortable footpad and soles, and the sturdy external soles that provide nice traction in the snow. All these with thick socks too, and no need for inserts. The wide calf and shaft are perfect with the combination of leggings and skinny jeans. But unfortunately, I have to return them. The left boot seems to be inconsistently made, as compared with the right boot, as it bunched in the ankle area, causing pain next to the zipper, even with thick socks and part of the leggings to shield the zipper. The right boot was perfectly snug, and did not bunch. I compared both boots in the ankle area, and sure enough, there was a difference. That is too bad, because these boots are expensive and I bought them for the long lasting quality and comfort. I think Rockport made a mistake on this pair. Zappos told me that there are no more of the black pair, for me to exchange with.

I have a trade show overseas, and thought these would be great, but alas they are too big! Overall, just too big.
