Very pleased overall. No break-in needed (black washed leather). My husband bought these for me for my birthday (I'm a chick but prefer a roomier toe-box than the flat, digit crushing Veronica combat). He was apprehensive about the price but after seeing them in person, he "got it". The leather laces look great but they're slow to respond and need a lot of coaxing to tighten. Great height and the pull is a plus. They're okay on the snow (certainly better than my slippery Iron Rangers). This is my first pair of men's Fryes. I own two pair of Archies (my favorite Frye boot) and have had several styles of Frye harness and engineer boots. The men's 7.5 in this style is like a women's 9.5. It is not too wide for an average female foot. There is plenty room for a short Tacco or other OTC insert, which gives a nice bit of arch support to the boot.
I'd also recommend:

Great boot. Very high quality. I would not, however, order 1/2 size smaller than normal. I did that and they are definitely too small. Otherwise, great purchase.

Well, I have had these boots for 2 weeks now and have been wearing them almost everyday.. Sadly, one of the lace eyelets has come unattached from my left boot....not good. At this price eyelets should not fail. Not sure if I will just wait for another to "fail" and then take them somewhere to have them replaced, if possible or give these boots the "boot". Damn shame.

I received these boots and wore them immediately. The leather is soft and supple. True to other Frye boots they run about 1/2 size big. I usually where size 12 and ordered 11 1/2 and they fit perfect. They were comfortable the rest of the day. I think another day or so and they'll be fully broken. The lining is a great soft leather. I've been searching for a classic combat boot for awhile. Frye did a good job with these. I have another pair of Frye boots and they look better now that they are almost 7 years old than when they are new! I still get compliments on them. Zappos shipped these out and arrived as promised during the business Christmas season.

So I got a pair of these and they are really nice...but they do need a bit of a break in period. They are pretty stiff out of the box like most good boots and the right one hurt my outside right ankle, but they are now very comfortable and look great. They are a dress boot of sorts. Not a lot of sole or heal rubber...but it's very hard and should last a long time before new heels or soles need to be added. I'm happy!

Excellent boot and well worth the money. One of the most comfortable boots I've ever worn--right out of the box. Minimal if any break-in period. As with all Frye boots, these run about a half-size larger, so go a half-size down and you should be good. I bought them in the dark brown vintage and the pics on zappos are accurate as to color and finish.

These boots look fantastic on my husband whom is very picky. They have the perfect worn in look, but they aren't very comfortable. They look so good that I still make him wear them though. He has gotten many compliments on them.

After a few back and forth purchases we ended up with a great pair of these boots. I ordered two pairs of the Frye Wayde combat boots for my husband in 9.5 (he wears 10 in other shoes) so that he could choose between the Dark Brown Vintage and Brown Washed Antique. The Brown Washed Antique was a nice even brown color, great for professional settings and also casual wear; however, the Dark Brown Vintage was a little more interesting looking and had a nice dark blackish brown leather and fade reminiscent of a worn paratrooper boot. In the end we kept the dark brown vintage though we traded it for another dark brown vintage pair. The staining on the first pair was awkward as the top of the boot had a large light spot on one and not the other. The second pair of dark brown vintage were evenly stained and looked better. After seeing multiple boots of the same type I now know that there's a big variation between each boot's leather and staining. If you're not happy with the staining or leather wear on the boot I would recommend exchanging it until you find the right color and look.

This shoe runs a little big. Thanks to the reviews I ordered a half size down and it fits prefect. The leather uppers and soles are great, but the toe area is a little more rounded than I would like. I think it's a great boot but I'm not truly sold on it yet.

The leather quality is amazing, and the boots fit extremely well once they are broken in (about two weeks of moderate wear). The problem that I encountered was the eyelets being much too small, and nearly all of them fell out. I had to replace them ($2 apiece + labor), and only after visiting three shoe repair stores in town. Buyer beware, if you purchase these expensive boots, they will likely require more money to make sure they last. I love them now, and they feel like they will last a lifetime with some care. However, the repairs cost me $50, which is inexcusable when so many other brands that sell much cheaper boots have better eyelets and quality control. I don't mind repairing a quality product after years of wear, but I think doing it when they are new, especially at this price, is exorbitant. Overall, solid boot that will last after minor repair.

I purchased a pair of these in Sept. Within two weeks, eyelets were falling off both boots and the heel was separating from the base of the right boot. I exchanged for another pair.
The first day I wore the replacement pair, eyelets fell off the right boot. At this price, the quality should be much better. I'm returning the second pair for a refund.

Takes a long time to wear in. Okay in terms of comfort but hard on the shin and looks less wide than you expect it.

Just got these boots today in black soft vintage leather and I gotta say I'm loving them so far. I would definitely order a half size down like others have said. I wear a 10 sneaker and went for a 9.5 in these and they fit great. My only problem so far is that an eyelet was loose when I got them, not a big deal but I may have to take them to a cobbler to get it fixed.

These are nice boots. They are definitely half a size big. Good leather, but one big problem: the lace grommets are weak and simply come out after a short time, forcing me to return the boots. This is the second time that this has happened - the first was on similar Frye boot,s the Tyler, with the same construction. Frye quality is suffering and there is no way boots at this price should have a design problem like this.
