Its not often that I get excited enough about a product to actually sit down and write about it, but these shoes wow me every time I wear them, even after 3 months. I feel obligated to give Adidas an “attaboy” for their work.
Requirements:
I trail run all winter long here in New England so I need a shoe that can deal with:
sub zero temperatures,
powdery snow,
hard-pack,
corn snow,
slush,
ice,
more ice,
black ice,
puddles,
rain,
mud, and
steep terrain
often all in the same run.
I don’t run on pavement and I am not a high milage guy. Typically I do about 4 miles 3 or 4 times a week.
I randomly found this shoe about 3 months ago in November after deciding I was sick of having frozen, dew soaked feet. My primary requirement was gore-tex to keep the water out.
This shoe has far exceeded my running shoe expectations.
Gore-Tex uppers: Keeps my feet dry and comfortable even when the temperatures are below 0F, which has been quite often this year. Note that my feet over-heat easily. Over heating hasn’t been a problem in these shoes.
Traction: The rubber sole on this shoe is amazing. Yesterday we had a bit of a thaw and this morning I was faced with a whole lotta ice. The soles on these shoes were great and even held firm when traversing a hills. In the past, icy days like this kept me from steep climbs. Not in these shoes.
Lacing: This shoes have a cool bungee lace-up system that I can adjust with my gloves on. I want this lacing system for all my shoes. In fact, I jerry-rigged a knock-off version of Adidas’s system on my sorel boots because I liked it so much.
Support: The sole is pretty stiff which I like for running in soft snow or rocky terrain. The stiff sole might not be to everyones’ taste but I like the protection it offers.
Fit: The fit is very traditional “adidas” which means it is perfect for normal width feet. I have to assume that if your foot is even on the wide side of normal, you might find these shoes too narrow.
Style: My pair is black on black so I feel like they look like referee shoes. My wife assures me that they don’t. Had there been a pair at my local REI with colored soles, I would have been all over them. In the end, I really don’t care how they look as I only wear these shoes for running.
These shoes must be coated with teflon. They just don’t get dirty. After 3 months of running in all manners of muck, they look like they just came out of their box.
Conclusion
Adidas Outdoor Terrex Swift R GTX are the JEEPs of running shoes, stiff ride, not overly roomy, but fantastic if you run in crappy conditions on uneven terrain.
If you run in the cold or crap winter conditions and you like the Adidas fit, you can’t go wrong with these shoes.

Update to my previously written review:
After trying to acquire replacement laces from Zappos and also searching the internet the world over, I have had no luck. So I decided to contact Adidas directly for replacement laces, telling myself "Surely the company who makes the shoes will have them."
To my disbelief, Adidas does not have replacement laces. Following is the customer service ticket conversation between myself and Adidas. Bottom line - as things stand right now, you will never be able to get a replacement pair of laces for these shoes, so think carefully before purchasing.
Reply from Adidas after asking for replacement laces:
"While adidas does not produce replacement shoe laces at this time, we can recommend a few companies who do carry a broad selection of laces in different lengths and colors:
[list]
Replacement laces can also be found at the following retailers, usually found at the local mall:
[list]
Kind regards, Adidas"
My reply back:
While I appreciate you taking the time to reply, the substance of the reply falls far short of what I would call good customer service. The first website you reference is such a horrible site that I would be ashamed to direct customers who have purchased goods from a company like Adidas to it. Further, neither that site or the other one you reference carry the style of laces used in the Terrex Swift R. I'm not crazy about driving around hunting for laces when the question should be definitively answered by the company who makes the shoes. It's Adidas who should be able to provide a definitive solution for replacement laces. Moreover, Adidas should make them available through customer service and also supply their retailers/e-tailers.
Your loss; The shoes will be returned and my review will include our conversation.

I absolutely love these shoes except for one exception, and it's a biggie; You can't find replacement shoe laces for them. That's a problem if your puppy finds them delicious (or I suppose if you break one). I'd be more than happy to fork over some money to get some laces - and append my review to where it should be.

Great looking shoe. Purchased for my 11 year old son for an upcoming school camping trip. Worried he would have wet feet the entire trip. All the reviews looked good and he really likes them...hopefully they do their job and keep his feet mostly dry. Great shipping!

I wore these shoes for 470 miles while walking the Camino de Santiago. They are brilliant! I saw so many other trekkers that had terrible blisters from their so called "Hiking Boots" I never got a single blister in over a month of walking. I did use Powerstep inserts, which combined with these shoes were awesome. I'm here writing this review because it's time for another pair. I'm going with the exact same ones.

These are the most comfortable shoes that I have ever worn in my entire life. There is no break in period. Seriously. They are the most comfortable shoes ever. I took them to Portland and wore them when I went kayaking. It seems like they really are waterproof. I got them wet and they dried quickly. And I have done some running in them. They are great.

When I was shopping around I needed something that I could wear every day and take out with me on hikes and "adventures" (that is what my wife calls our excursions). Comfort wise it took slightly longer than I would have expected for the sole of the shoe to "loosen up" but after about 2 weeks of daily wearing, which for me is somewhere about 5000 steps, the shoes feel great. I especially like the drawstring laces instead of having to knot them. They are made out of what feels like some sort of cable instead of a fabric lace. Probably 80% of the time I am a guy who likes to be able to slip on my shoes without adjusting the laces so these work great for that and whenever I need to tighten them it is a quick process. I have tested the water resistance and I can tell you that works great as well. My biggest hangup before ordering the was the price but I am highly satisfied with the final product and would buy again! I ordered a 14 but normally wear a 13 in most shoes.

Wore these shoes on a 5 day backpacking trip in the Sierra's and they performed like champions. Very comfortable and they provided great support and protection from rocks while descending.

Fantastic shoes! Light, but still rigid enough for backpacking and more serious hiking. My new favorites.

I love these shoes. I wore them all around Europe backpacking and I use them to hike/trail run now. I normally wear a 10 and I got a 10.5 because people said they run small. They are just slightly longer than my running shoes which are 10.5's. I don't like wearing mine with thick socks otherwise they're too narrow. I haven't had any issues with breath-ability, and so far they've been 100% water proof. I didn't have to break them in either.

I really like the shoes and get compliments on them every time I wear them. I have not really had a chance to test the waterproofing yet but I have always had good luck with waterproof Adidas shoes. And Zappos is excellent as usual.

These are the best workout shoes I've ever had. They have a great heal platform and support throughout the foot, without being cramped. I'm buying a second pair immediately.

Very good durable shoe, don't use it for trail running but it works great for mountain biking and at work to keep my feet dry. look a little but to break in but is worth. Great lace locking system.

I bought these for my husband for his birthday. He loves them, perfect for dog walking and hiking. He really likes the cinch laces!

Simply awesome! I took these amazing shoes on a 1 month trekking trip to Thailand. They mastered sand, streets, crappy sidewalks, mountains, trails, water, shopping malls & boats. They had great traction, excellent water resistance and were far more stylish than your typical trail shoe. They took everything I threw at them and they still look spotless. Out of all the shoes I've owned, these are my favorite. I would recommend these to anyone looking for comfort, versatility and style.

Geat shoes: tons of comfortable, but firm support. I use them for walking, not running, so cannot comment on the cushioning it affords runners. A thumbs up product.

It's a cool shoe, though I bought it with the VERY green sole. However, be alerted that the toe box is tighter than my previous, non-gortex hiking shoes, and that made them too tight. A bigger size won't help because otherwise they're fine.

GoreTex is always overkill in a low shoe, if you ask me. Anyway, this is as stiff as any climbing shoe co approach shoe out there (with NO cushioning, Adiprene, anything!) This is NOT a running shoe. Repeat! And you better have strong acclimated feet for hiking any more than 5-7 miles in these. Adidas has gone to a narrow forefoot last so if you have wide balls (of your feet!) try going up a half-size. Not the most comfortable show, and possible mis-marketed, but it is just so damn cool-looking I spent the money anyway.

Great looks and (after some walking/hiking to break-in) great comfort! Having issues with lace breaking and grommet has fallen out. I wish these problems didn't exist b/c the shoes do great on days hikes and walks around town. Goretex works perfectly. I will seek a refund/exchange.

Shoes feel great - really helped my knees for some reason - must be the arch supports. However - as much as I like the shoes - just found out mine leak in water! Walking through this slushy winter mix found my socks were getting wet! It's a shame as these were my favorite shoes! But for the price I paid they shouldn't leak! And it's not like I was using these on rugged terrain - I work in office space with carpet.
