Love Salomon brand. Fit is great. The toe box has more room than most other hiking shoes. I wear these to work in a tree nursery every day and they are very comfortable.

Excellent all-weather hiking shoes. They are light weight, waterproof, and have the right amount of cushion and support. I've used them for about 20 miles of mountain hiking (rough, dry, steep, stream crossings) so far with a 25 pound pack on, and I love them. No blisters or sore feet.

Very pleased. The fit was a wee bit on the large size. Usual size is 5.5 which is what I ordered. Added an insole and it is perfect. As described, these shoes are weatherproof. They've been in snow in Iceland and hikes in Washington State so far.

Very happy with these hiking shoes. I have problem sore feet and I'm now able to get out and be comfortable, making my hikes much more enjoyable. I'm also getting a lot of compliments on their look from fellow hikers! I appreciated the comments about sizing, and ordered a half size smaller than normal, and that worked well for me, and I also recommend that others do this.

This one I kept! I tried Merrell which I have liked in the past, Vasque, Hotter, Teva all of which I returned. These are the most comfortable and kept my feet dry during a 2 mile walk in the rain. The arch is good. The toe box is roomy. I wear a 6 in dress shoes and a 7 in sneakers. The 6.5 was perfect.

I wear a size 7 and the shoe is too big in the heel so need to return and get a 6.5. I was really looking to wear these shoes...now too as I have been doing a lot of hiking.

Salomon shoes are amazing! They are so comfortable, give great support and seem to last forever. I've purchased several pairs of shoes in the past few years. Their boots are also fabulous!

Right out of the box, these are pretty comfy. As on over-pronator, I was looking for support. After 3 hikes in 4 days totaling 24 miles over rugged Zion and Grand Canyon terrain, these shoes performed well and were more comfortable then my Merrill Siren Sports. I would recommend these to a friend. I am typically a 7 or 7.5. The 7 was perfect for me.

Great shoe! So far I have hiked about 600 miles in a pair of these on rocky trails in Marin County. They still have good tread and cushioning, plenty of room for my toes, and in the recent days of pouring rain kept my feet dry!

I got these because I'm going to be living in Germany for 5 months and will be doing some hiking. I've tried on several different hiking shoes and ended up with these. They are super comfortable, waterproof, and I really like the style. I wear a 7.5 and normally size up to an 8 for running shoes. Based on other reviews, I got these in a 7.5 and they fit pretty good with sport socks, better with thick hiking socks. Can't wait to get to Germany and wear them!

I love these. I bought them for dog walking walking in our rainy climate. They're comfy, keep my feet dry, and have great traction. I have issues with plantar fasciitis and needed something with a neutral heel. These are great and don't aggravate my PF. I wear them with an insole for more arch support. They do run big. I'm normally an 8.5 and had to get these in an 8. The 8 fits well even with thicker socks.

Great hiking shoe! Lightweight and great waterproofing. High arch for those that need extra support.

I bought these on the recommendation of a friend. I wanted to love them but they felt too long and uncomfortable. They seem to have a lot of inner support built in that would probably feel fantastic if it all lined up with my foot. I would have explored a smaller size but I wasn't crazy about the color so decided not to bother.

Awesome overall shoe! While in the midst of last minute prepping for a rugged, 7 day, 50 mile backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon I decided I need new shoes and purchased five pairs from Zappos and three additional styles from local stores. These were by far the best- I wish they had a little more arch support (like Sportiva) but overall this shoe was the most comfortable and had no break-in time. They kept my feet happy through a lot of ragged territory and for that I am grateful. Would highly recommend them for anyone looking for durable, comfortable hiking shoes!

I really wanted to love these shoes. My last pair of hikers were Salomons: they never gave me a single blister or pain, and they lasted for years until the sole literally detached from the shoe from sheer wear and tear. So I figured, only another pair of Salomons would do. However, these gave me major heel slip on my right foot; and they just felt clunky, which I know is vague criticism, especially since I realize hiking shoes are supposed to have a certain stiffness. The soles are grippy; they are lightweight; the lacing system, while not the vaunted speed lace, is still well designed to get you in and out of the shoes quickly and comfortably. They are ugly--sorry, just my opinion--but I wouldn't have cared had they fit. Hiking shoes are all about the last--the basis for the way the shoes fits--and I found Asolos fit me better these days. But this is an excellent shoe for the money, very well made and designed, and I would still recommend Salomons highly.
I'd also recommend:

After reading women specific gear tests and some reviews, I thought I'd give these Salomons a try. I wear 9 in running and hiking shoes, but based on reviews, I ordered 8.5. They were huge, even with thick socks. I returned for a size 8 (thanks, Zappos, for making it easy!) which fit better, but not great. With the laces as tight as I dared make them for just walking around the house, I had major heel slip and forefoot movement when wearing my usual hiking socks. I'm used to a wide toebox (I wore Merrell Trail Gloves for the last 5 years), but this felt as though the only secure area was at the midpoint where the laces held my foot to the arch support. Sadly, I have no idea how these would perform on a trail since they never made it out of my living room.

Nice looking shoe, but toe box a bit narrow for my foot. My big toe felt compressed on the side. Shoe very stiff and heavier than I expected.

These are light and flexible once broken in. The cushioning leaves much to be desired but, with the addition of Spenco insoles, they are very comfortable now.

Unfortunately, even though I loved the look of these shoes, they didn't feel right on my feet, so I am going to exchange them for Columbias.

These shoes are really nice looking but I should have known better with this brand as they are VERY stiff. I have narrow heals and no amount of tight lacing held my heal in. I suspect some of that is that they do not bend at all. My big toe also felt bruised. I ordered my usual size as recommended in reviews and the length with a light wool blend sock was good. I was looking for a winter walking shoe. The heal strike is quite hard for this purpose so I will be returning.

This is the third pair of Solomon water proof/ aka water resistant trail shoes I've worn. So wanted to like them... as I did the others and wore them to wearing them out. Instead, my feet sweat... tried again when the weather cooled.. better. But I still got blisters below my ankle bone. Plus they are much stiffer than previous generations. Hope I can still return them.... think so which makes be confident to buy through Zappos.

Ordered this 1/2 size down after reading several reviews. Still too big, so ordered a whole size down and it was too small. Also was a very stiff shoe.

I bought these after reading that they were the #1 rated Women's hiking shoe on a few sites. The fit did not feel right from Day 1 in these shoes, they constantly were slipping at the heel and when going downhill I would get pain in my forefoot. After only about 10 hikes the metal eyelet at the top broke right off while tying my shoe--good for me as I was able to replace these with Merrell Moabs which I am completely happy with! If you go with the Salomon Ellipse GTX, definitely go at least 1/2 to 1 size lower then you normally wear!

I got this shoe in size 9 women, which is the size I normally wear in Salomon. Possibly, in an attempt to make this shoe very roomy, it is at least half a size smaller. While very comfy, it did not offer any support in the back. My foot kept slipping out, I can see how it will cause problems on a trail. Back they went. No time to order a size smaller. Big bummer!
