Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
Was looking for some really warm and puffy down jackets for my kids, since too often the "in" style of down jackets that I see everywhere are way too lightweight and not filled with enough down. Got these Marmot jackets in 2 sizes, as well as 2 other Marmot 700 fill down jackets and a North Face down jacket. This style of jacket was very noticeably puffier than all the other jackets. The North Face reversible one was close in terms of airy/puffiness, but that was was significantly shorter in length and I didn't like the look as much. Was very strange that thought the other 2 Marmot jackets were also supposedly 700 fill, the puffiness was missing. Especially in the Marmot slingshot one (designed for snowsports, I think?) for girls, it was so flat, no lift at all. I think it might have something to do with the fabric--the slingshot outer fabric is much thicker and more stiff, so maybe that keeps the down from puffing up as much. But since the warmth of down is due to the air pockets that insulate, I will be keeping these ones. Thanks Zappos, for letting me order a whole bunch so I could compare and choose in the comfort of my own home! :)

Great coat, extra warm and puffy. Sturdy shell material. I wish this had an interior pocket or a chest pocket with a zipper for lip balm, etc. But otherwise a great coat! Size S fits my 6 year old who is 44", 45lbs. My daughter has the Patagonia Hi-loft hoodie and they are basically the same.
I'd also recommend:

My 4 year old son wear this in 25F weatherc with only one t shirt underneath. He feels warm. Unlike other jacket, this jacket has a well-designed hood which stays on his head despite the wind.

My son loves this coat and I'm glad I bought it. It's warm and great quality that I know will hold up to hand down to my youngest. Got the dark red/orange combo and it's unique without being too bright.

This is a nice winter jacket! I bought for my kindergartener and it keeps him very warm. We are in MN so winters are cold. We have negative temps waiting for the bus sometimes. The size S is a little big, but he loves it and it might fit for 2 years since it has room to grow. I have primarily bought the patagonia hi loft down previously, he still fits okay in his 5T one but it was getting a tad short. I love patagonia bc it can be handed down and stays looking brand new. However, the marmot one is quite a bit cheaper than the hi loft down boys patagonia and seems to be just as high quality! He's been wearing it for about a month. Hoping it holds up just as well and can be passed down!

Love this jacket. It's warm, light, stays dry, and super comfy, like wearing a fluffy cloud. It's all around the best technical down jacket for kids Marmot's flagship winter coat, sized for kids. High quality materials. Since it's my son's favorite winter gear, we've gotten this repeatedly. The jacket is super lightweight, 60% of the weight of the Fordham, leaving more energy for longer hours for sledding, hiking, snowshoeing, and scouting. Ours held up well, no tears, no pinholes, no down leaks unlike other down jackets we've gotten. Two looked new after a year of wear and the jacket stays dry winter after winter and they hold their resale value, especially the ones with 800 fill down. The extra warmth matters where we live. Of the lightweight jackets we've had, this is the most durable and high quality. The size is true, the down has plenty of loft to stay warm, and is puffy, but doesn't feel bulky. Movement is easier in this jacket than other ones. To preserve the down, shell integrity, and water repellent, we wash it using Nikwax Down Wash and NixWax Down Proof. Photo of my son's favorite color, after 2 winters of wear. Marmot: please stock the more appealing gender neutral colors and an XXL tween size, and return to 800 fill down - this bumps it above the rest.

This jacket is really warm and awesome, I was looking for a substantial winter coat, not some thing too thin or light and this was exactly that!

Thankfully, this is a warm jacket. It was bought specifically for a winter trip where the daily highs were 28F (but sunny). My 7 yr. old never complained about being cold, so my assumption is that it kept her comfortable. It is very puffy, but lightweight. So much so that my 7 yr old sometimes reaches for it in mild mid 40's temperatures in the mornings. Very satisfied with the purchase, even though there was some information that customer service was not willing to disclose regarding the amount of insulation present.

My daughter loves this coat, the sizing is completely confusing on Marmot websiteended up going to other websites that sold the coat do decipher what size is a 14-16 in girls. Note to Marmot, you have this listed as a boys coat but it's actually a unisex coat. Sizing needs to reflect girls and boys.
