The Ultra Raptor is an excellent trail running shoe which is also suitable for casual hiking. The shoe appears well constructed, comfortable and provides good support with excellent traction on loose or wet ground.
Size 43 is very slightly shorter and narrower than the usual 'Made in China' size 10 running shoe. That suited me perfectly but if you have wide feet you might consider a half-size larger.

I have worn the Raptors for 4-5 years, and love them . They were tricky to get sized right, with the first pair, but now I have a good fit and order the same size when it’s time to replace them. I would say you should start with a full size above a normal street shoe size. (I actually suggest buying several pairs/sizes at first and send back the ones that don’t fit well). I use them for hiking (in Maine, rocky, wet, steep terrain) and they are great: stable base and heel counters to reduce ankle inversion, good grip, comfortable arch support which is replaceable if needed, durable uppers, the soles may wear a bit faster than other high end hikers/running shoes but it is a fair trade-off for the improved grip.

Fantastic shoes. I use them for work and casual wear. I am on my feet for ten hours at a time at work and I cover a lot of ground. These shoes are extremely comfortable and quite breathable. They also last much better than most other atheists shoes. Previously I would go through a pair of shoes every six months at the longest. These however have lasted 13 months and are just now starting to breakdown. Just for reference, I cover 8 to 10 miles a day in a 4 day workweek. Mine literally have hundreds of miles on them. I already have a backup pair I am going to put into service and I will buy another pair to wear casually.

Despite having prior La Sportiva shoes that fit well, these were too narrow in the toe box. Needed to return them.

I have bought maybe 10 pairs, if not more, of this shoe for my boss from different companies because he loves them so much and is afraid they will be discontinued, but when he received the shoes from your company, he said they looked used (the tag was torn off and just thrown in the box with the shoes). This is why we are returning them.

I’ve hiked every type of terrain imaginable in Colorado and Utah over the past 25 years and I’ve never worn a better shoe. I’m now hiking terrain that I would have previously hiked in a full boot, but the Ultra Raptor provides the perfect combination of responsiveness and stability, so it’s a case of “less is more.” The shoe is perfect — I hope La Sportiva doesn’t change it!

Great shoe for all around comfort and support. The fit seems similar to the glove- like fit of a Salomon.

I bought these for my husband for our Grand Canyon trip and he felt very comfortable with it. We have visited several different shoe stores to find the right shoes with lots of arch support and we picked this one at the end. The black one looked hideous so we had to buy the red color online at zappos

Size is true, this is the only shoe I don’t tie my laces too tight or else it puts too much pressure on the top of my foot.
These shoes need no break in period. They are great on the trail and I only ordered this pair because I sufficiently wore out the tread on my first pair after a year and a half of trail use.

These are probably the best pair of purpose built shoes I have worn. Very sturdy and extremely comfortable. Bought them for a marathon ruck and they were great. Now they are my golf shoes because they grip so well and are far more comfortable that regular golf shoes.

These shoes have a nice, wide sole for the foot so I'm not walking on the outside ribs of the shoe like with many other modern namebrands. It seems as though many companies are making their newest models thinner and thinner in the name of going Ultra Lightweight, but these shoes offer plenty of width. I ordered half size up like I do with most European shoes. Oh, and they look cool too.

Bought about six weeks ago and wear everyday with shorts and tee shirt. Have discarded Asics and become firm believer in the "sock" approach taken by la Sportiva. Foot is held comfortably and firmly. Initially thought might be short on cushioning...after wearing for week or so, cushioning quite good. Lacing system very secure and easy to use. Takes a minute or two to get accustomed to black/yellow/red color scheme. I also bought another model (la Sportiva Wildcat Turtle), a good shoe as well, but not as comfortable or structured as the Ultra Raptor. Will buy ultra raptor again.

I just wore these shoes in a variety of conditions on a multi-day hiking trip in Scotland. They protected my feet adequately over uneven and rocky terrain, kept my toes from slamming into the front on downhills and have excellent friction rubber that does a good job of clinging to dry rocks. While I thought the claim to absorb 20% of the shock coming downhill might be marketing hype, they definitely seem to be better at descending than my other boots and hiking shoes. I would buy them again.

This model of Raptor is a good update compared to the last edition. The things Ive noticed from the last version is the type and amount of foam used in the forefoot has been changed and increased so that there is more cushion in the forefoot area. The new materials of the shoe used on the inside of the shoe is a welcome update as well. The new materials at the heel provides a solid hold on your foot. This is an all around great shoe! Ive ran in it three times now with the longest being a 100k run and had no issues what so ever. I will be definitely buying more of this shoe!

The length was accurate same as my Hoka one’s. The width is definitely for the narrower foot and fits mine well. The Hoka ones I have to since up almos all the way. The look is fine, I’m not big into style and there was only one color choice in my size. I’ve only got 16 miles on them so far. Having some unusual bottom inside of heal pain after about 4 miles of walking. Not sure what that is since I’ve been doing 7 plus miles with no issues in the Hoka’s. I’m hoping the issue resolves itself in the heals soon.

Initial feel is like a hug for your foot. Looks way cooler than the images. Unfortunately the inside seams are very obtrusive. After 3 months of wearing these every other day they were comfortable for a couple hours, 4 months before I could tolerate them for more than 6 hours. The internal seams cut into the widest point of the outside of your foot. If you have narrow feet I highly recommend these shoes.

I think if I had never worn Hokas, I might like the shoe in a larger size. The Raptor offers good heel cushioning but , like so many others, the front part of the foot is mostly ignored. I have tried so many shoes through the years and I am talking about intense back country exploration, but, to me, there aren't any shoes out there that come close to the support, grip, instant comfort of any pair of Hokas. Just being honest...

I am a die hard Puma fan but I wanted to try something different that I can use for hiking. I usually wear a 9.5 so that's what I ordered. Once I put them on they felt like they were crushing my feet. I initially thought that they are new shoes and I have break them in. Well, after wearing them for a few days they didn't give. The shoes weren't nearly wide enough. Length wise the shoes were a perfect 9.5 but width wise they were way to tight on the lateral portions of my feet and I was forced to return them.

usually wear size 8 in street & running shoe. These were too narrow in the forefoot and toe box was tight as well. Ended up buying a 42 in La Sportiva Wildcat.

I've never had to throw a shoe away before it wore out but I will be glad to see these in the trash. I have about 100 miles on them total (a marathon and a 50 miler, plus some training runs) The shoes felt great when I first put them on but after running a few miles I started having problems with them. See below for a summary.
Starting with the positives: Great traction, cool looking
Cons:
-Lugs on the soles started to tear off after the first run.
-Strange high spots just above the insoles (right at the instep on the left, and on the heel on the right) rubbed my feet raw no matter my sock choice.
-Metal eyelet on left shoe had a sharp edge and cut through the lace after 4th run.
-No drains for water means you'll slosh around for awhile if your runs have any creek crossings.
-Not much ankle support for a shoe with that much heel lift. This puts a lot of torque on the ankle. Coupled with a slippery insole material, I rolled my ankle (not badly) several times the first few times out.
