This pair that I ordered on line is not up to par to the pair that I purchased in store. I love the shorts, but the waist band is stretched out, doesn't have any "play" to it. The other doesnt have alot, but some, enough to keep them around your waist.
The color is beautiful, delivery was prompt, just noticed the waist was drooping so held them up to the store purchased pair and it isnt my imagination. I needed them so have worn them for kayaking and vaca, but just not the same.

I was looking for a UPF shorts like I have previously purchased from Columbia. These run small.
Disappointed I,

These were supposed to have a 6" inseam. They are way too short, unlike the other pair I purchased from you folds.

I had a pair of these from about 8 yrs ago that I loved but my cat ate a hole in them. I reordered the same size. Now they are tight around the butt, much shorter from waist to crotch and much lower cut. The top barely covered my bikini line and still gave me a camel toe. I paid to return them.

If you have a butt you will not like them. They have no stretch so they ride.

These are not cargo shorts. They have a little teeny side pockets not good for much of anything. If I was just buying them as fast drying shorts I would’ve given them a five but Don’t call them cargo shorts.

They seem like sturdy shorts, however, I'm not happy with how they fit. I ordered a small, but may need an extra small? I'm 5'4" 117 lbs. and the fit just seems too baggy. Looked to return them and really don't want to pay to return them. I'll just donate them or something.

Just wore these shorts for the first time today. The fit was true to size and they looked and felt great. When I tried to unbutton them the button broke apart! Its frustrating that this happened within hours of wearing it!

These are great shorts , alas they are way too short for a more mature lady. Just needed to be a tad longer. Years ago (still love them) I purchased a pair of shorts from your store, the belt has broken and cannot be replaced. I was looking for the same style. Then I bought a "small" and it was rather large, here I bought a 'medium' and they are too small, not long enough and not enough inseam to be comfortable. Rather than return them, I gave them away.

I own two pair of the Sandy River Cargo shorts and love them. I ordered two more pair -- the picture shown looks just like my old ones, but the shorts I received are a much tighter, slimmer fit, the belt is not elastic as the old ones were, and the "cargo" pockets are barely large enough to fit two fingers in. The old shorts have 6"x6" pockets with zippers; these have 4"x4" pockets, only one with a zipper, the other with a sewn down flap -- impossible to get into -- not acceptable for cargo pockets or to hold valuables.

Needs pockets and zippers. Shorts are worthless for most of my activities. What happened to the technical aspect of Columbia. Cutting too many corners. Cut the belt and add some decent pockets (rear and front) and at least one zip.

Although advertised as "cargo" shorts, the pockets are too small to safely cary a wallet or cell phone. When you sit down, everything falls out of the shallow side pockets. The little zip pocket can carry cash or a credit card, but that's the only cargo I'd recommend carrying in these shorts.

I love Columbia Sportswear. I was, however, very disappointed in the sizing of these shorts. I have two pairs from several years ago that are the same size as I purchased recently. When the package arrived I compared the two - the new product is over 2" smaller in the hips. And the inseam may measure 6" but only by a hair! Way too skimpy with the fabric. I will keep looking to find a Columbia product that measures up to the older product.

In hopes that someone at Columbia is reading these reviews, I have resorted to rating these shorts. I have worn this style Columbia shorts since they came out; sadly, I am left with no choice but to shop other brands.
This newer version is shorter in the rise; tighter in the crotch; and much less comfortable & durable. Less material = less functionality for people who actually wear these for active sports. One would think Columbia knows this, right? I can only speak for myself, but even after I ordered a size up to compensate, the shorter legs and tighter crotch make these pretty useless for kayaking, hiking, etc.
Over the years of the original version, I have probably spent $3-4 thousand on other Columbia items, since I sought out the brand to buy new colors and replacements of these shorts - tops, sweaters, pants, crops, shoes, etc.
Sadly, Columbia is no longer my go-to brand for upgrading my active spring/summer wardrobe, now that my old reliable shorts are no longer reliable.
I guess if your most strenuous activity in these shorts is a stop at Starbucks, they might work for you. But I cannot recommend them otherwise.
*sigh*

Well I knew better but I bought another pair of the new style and they didn't last a month. In the past few years I have purchased 5 pairs and have had to throw them all away! The snaps fall off or break just after a few months. And like others the belt is no helps at all.
I still have 3 very old pair, back with no zippers or snaps and I still wear the same ones 365 days a year! These are my go to shorts. They still look great, love the length and have never had a problem with the old ones.
Columbia, please bring back the old style so that I may purchase at least one in every color!!!

The Sandy River Shorts by Columbia used to be great. I used them for all sorts of summer outdoor activity - hiking and canoeing. This year it was time to replace some very old pairs. I purchased 2 pairs from Campmor and 2 directly from Columbia. Snaps came off (as in popped off onto the floor while just walking) on the first wear of 2 pairs. The center back seam ripped after the first wear on the other 2 pair. I sent 2 pairs back to Columbia and explained to them what happened. They sent me ONE new pair and that snap popped off as well. Needless to say I am moving on...

Can you say twisted knickers? Because that is what these shorts feel like when worn. Either the way the fabric is sewn or the way it is cut makes it feel like the darn things are on sideways! And I tried both a small and a medium for size, and they both had the same odd fit.
