I am an avid "barefoot" runner. I've run in multiple incarnations of the Nike Free line, the Mizuno Mushas (discontinued racing flats with cushions) so I thought I would love these. I don't. After decades of running on pavement I run strictly on trails to keep my legs my aching. A trail run in the Newtons feels like running on the sidewalk. My knees and ankles feel it after. Because of the rave reviews from so many runners I thought I would eventually come to like them. However, my initial impression has become my overall assessment. It's not for everyone. Good news: It's true to size. in Nike's I always run a half size up and often have issues with what I feel are narrow toe boxes. Mizunos are true to size for me as are Newtons. Plenty of room for the toes and wide feed. However, I have found that they are rough and have rubbed off skin. Therefore, for me, these are not barefoot shoes. I have to wear socks with them.
