I was trying to reconcile the 5 star reviews saying that this jacket is waterproof with the 1 star reviews claiming that it is not. So I bought one for a trip I was taking.
That jacket has great qualities for travel: thin, lightweight fabric. Almost no lining so very compact. Flexible enough to stuff into its breast pocket and barely shows wrinkles when unstuffed. Serves very well as a windbreaker.
But this also means the jacket provides no insulation itself. Flannel or fleece worn under the jacket works for a layered setup. Hand pockets are poorly positioned as Colombia tried to save assembly costs by locating pocket entry holes on the same vertical seam used to join the front and back of the jacket. Better quality jackets locate the front pockets on the front panel where the hands naturally fall.
Now as far as being waterproof...
My party got caught in a moderate to heavy rainstorm while on our trip. I initially showed off my new jacket by stepping into the rain and then back under cover. I gave my body a good shake and just about all the drops of water rolled right off the jacket. Awesome. So off we went through the rain to find a restaurant. When we got there, I removed my jacket and heard a snarky comment "I thought your jacket was waterproof?" Sure enough, the shoulders and upper back of my shirt were wet. Not soaked, but well into the very damp stage. I'm guessing we were walking around for over half an hour in the rain.
So is the Glennaker waterproof? For a while. But stay in the rain long enough and water will eventually seep through the fabric and get you wet.

I like the way it fits a little large if I need extra layers underneath during chilly weather. Also I like the fact that the hood can be tucked away if I don't need it.

Does the trick - breaks the wind. No insulation, however. That's why it's a light windbreaker. Inside pocket is a neat feature.

Haven't used in rain yet so have not tested. Writing this review to let you know this Glennaker Mens Rain jacket runs large. I'm small in mens athletic apparel and a small in this rain jackets feels medium or maybe even large. Sleeves run past my knuckles and length is between my hips and knees. Maybe this is designed this way for its function but just letting you know. And I've search these aren't available in XS. This would have been perfect if Columbia makes them in XS. For comparison my fit (slim 150lbs) fits perfectly on an XL boys glennaker. But the boys jacket does not have the hood compartment and the pocket-foldability.
Quality seems nice though.

Nice quality jacket, fit is good for me, medium on 5'11" 185lbs. Only weakness is a lack a breathable fabric(not a surprise at this price) or vents. Can retain body moisture when exercising etc. waterproof capabilities are good. Recommend wicking shirt underneath.

This product is an excellent buy if you are looking for something packable, light, and comfortable. It is waterproof in moderate rain, but if you get into any downpours then expect to have a little leak in. If you are looking for a completely waterproof jacket then you need to be willing to spend a little more money and get something heavier.

This jacket is used for windy and rainy/snowy morning runs and has been great that way. Can't beat the price either.
Needs some vents in the arm pit area though.
the zipper quality is real confident...my number one reason for tossing running and bike wear.
A nice surprise is the hood that fits into the collar !
For long variable weather runs thats real nice to have so accessible.
Runs a little big for a' Small' but is great for going around the layers in the winter.

I like that the hood can be hidden when you are not using it.

Light weight & can be folded or rolled to small size for storage. The hood is great & out of the way when stowed in collar. If used on salt water be sIre to clean & lubricate the zipper or it will corrode.

Great lightweight rain jacket. Light enough to use in Florida and perfect to layer under for cooler weather needing rain protection.

The Glennaker Lake jacket is an excellent packable rain/wind jacket for a very low price, with Columbia's dependable high quality. True, it is not breathable like a high-end Goretex jacket, but I feel like other reviewers are exaggerating the condensation issue. I live in muggy, humid Houston, and I have not found it to be any more prone to condensation than another comparable jacket I used to have from a high-end outdoor equipment manufacturer. I did not buy my jacket directly from Columbia, and I found the national outdoor chain store I purchased it from had more choices of colors than Columbia offers here, which is odd. The jacket does run a bit large, but not too bad, and it gives more room to layer underneath. It keeps a wearer amazingly dry and warm for something so light and thin. The hood is pretty substantial compared to other jackets of this type, offering more protection, but is still easy to repack neatly in the collar. The jacket packs down really nicely into a small daypack so you almost forget you have it, until you're on one of those dayhikes that starts out sunny and warm, until the temperature drops and wind picks up, and/or the rain rolls in unexpectantly. All in all a well-made, compact, affordable, warm, dry rainjacket, par for the course for a Columbia product.

I already have a Columbia light weight, water proof jacket. Liked it so much that I decided to get another. This jacket is just as nice, has a hide away hood. One thing that you should know that sizes run large.

I love this jacket because it is just what I needed for rainy days and walking the dog. My only complaint after using it for a little while is that it is loud, which is somewhat expected from rain jacket material, so I hope that will reduce as I continue to wear it. It is also packable, so it can be easily stored in the car when traveling and rain may pop up. So far, so good!

Does not keep you dry except in slight sprinkles. Decent as a wind shell. Top of sleeves around biceps kinda ridiculously large.

Fits well, light weight, good to wear on a cool day. Not waterproof. Within a few minutes in a light rain it will wet out.
