I wish it comes with a bigger size. I still love it anyway, I highly recommend it.

I've had this backpack for over 10 years and it amazes me that it still doesn't show any kind of wear. I use it as my carry on every time I fly, I take it on day hikes in the mountains to carry lunch and extra clothes, plus water bottles and emergency gear. I use it snow skiing to carry extra layers, goggles, sunscreen, water, snacks, boots, and head gear. It's extremely versatile and as I said, it will last your forever. Mine still looks awesome, no fraying threads or ripping fabric anywhere, even at the points where you would expect it like where the shoulder straps are sewn to the top of the bag, and I have carried very heavy loads, especially as a carry on when I fly (heavy laptop + power supply, hardback books, snacks, toiletry kit, etc etc). I will always buy North Face after seeing how durable these backpacks are. I'm very impressed.

Everything that I expected! Looks small but holds so much and doesn't become bulky when full, which is my favorite part. Also feels great on my back. I can't even feel all the weight that on my back. Definitely recommended!

Bought the Summit Gold Ripstop backpack as a everyday bag, diaper bag, and for day hiking. After using a Swiss Gear Ibex Backpack and recently selling to buy a NF backpack i'm glad I did but mad I didn't sooner this north face backpack is far more comfortable to wear than my Swiss Gear was and lighter also. The size is alittle smaller but that's what I wanted due to not carrying my laptop so much anymore. Overall the appearance is nice, love the chest and waist straps and the mesh pockets for water bottles and the other one to put whatever you need on the spot in. And the little whistle built into the shoulder clasp is a nice touch. North Face 1 Swiss Gear 0

My daughter is a freshman in high school and carries all her books home from school. The backpack is very good quality. She has a shoulder injury and we find that the bag distributes the weight evenly. The lower strap goes around the waist to balance the weight. This bag should last for several years. The pockets are deep and the color great.

I love this backpack! I was looking for a new backpack with a laptop sleeve and that can accomodate a hydration pack for day hiking. I first tried the Burton Day Hiker 23L, but I didn't like the color when it arrived and It didn't have enough compartments/organization for going to class. I also tried the Patagonia Refugio Pack 28L but I hated the way it was organized. Then I tried this one and it's great. Just enough compartments, without getting crazy. The main compartment holds a laptop in a thin, but padded sleeve, a tablet (or sometimes I put a stiff mousepad in there) with plenty of space for a couple notebooks, textbooks or binders or a sweatshirt. I haven't run out of space yet. The laptop sleeve also has a shock absorbing spring thing at the bottom of the bag, so if you drop your backpack, there's extra protection for your laptop. It's also great for a day hike. I bought a Platypus 3L bladder. This is a very big bladder and it just barely fit in the bag, but it did. It would not have fit in the laptop sleeve because it's too long and the laptop sleeve is a bit shorter than the bag itself (because of the shock absorbing). Also, I'm not sure if that's what you're supposed to do. It seems like it would stretch the sleeve. It worked great outside the pocket. With the waist and sternum straps buckled, the shoulder straps tightened appropriately and the side straps tightened (those that control the depth of the bag), the backpack was easy to carry, even with a lot of water. It brings the weight close to you, like it should. Also, due to the slightly structured back, it keeps my shoulders up and my back straight. I tried the men's and the women's versions. Here are the differences I noticed: - the straps seem much more comfortable on my shoulders and on my chest, especially with the sternum strap buckled. The bag itself seems slightly narrower as well. - the back and the straps are a softer material that I liked a lot more. However, the men's version had a lot more mesh, which I think would improve airflow if you're sweating. That being said, I've gotten sweaty with this backpack and it's manageable, but could be better. There is a rigid center piece that is not padded and should not be touching your back that does provide some airflow. A couple of minor things: 1 - I wish the outermost mesh pocket that you see on the back of the bag could hold a bike helmet. That's what I thought it was for, but mine did not fit while the bag was relatively empty. It has come in handy for random things I need to be easily accessible. 2 - the mesh side pockets are very roomy, which is good. You can fit a nalgene on both sides I think. But, even with the elastic, it doesn't get very small when empty. I stupidly stuck a granola bar wrapper in there with a couple other things and ended up chasing after it on a hike. I think it would be better with an adjustable bungee drawstring.

I replaced my old recon with this year's model and couldn't be happier. The quality seems to be very good, and I'm confident in knowing that if it fails to uphold, North Face has a good customer service and returns system.

After 5 years with my old NF backpack, it was time to get a new one. They no longer carried my old one, but this one is the same great quality, but with a few more bells and whistles. Perfect size for school and carry-on travel for plane. Looking forward to 5 more good years.

I love this backpack! I bought this as a carry-on for vacations to replace a backpack I had for many years. It has tons of space with lots of little pockets for easy access to items. I love the color too -- unique but not too bright and a nice feminine touch with the robin egg blue accents. Very happy with this purchase.
