I researched back packs for women and this one is excellent! It's roomy enough for travel without too many pockets and hidden areas that I can never find anyway! I travel often and look forward to having this pack with me on those travels as a carry on and as a day pack as we see Australia, this time. Thanks for the good design, the comfort and a spot for the IPad, too

I love this book bag for several reasons. Very comfortable and easy to carry around. I don't feel like I am carrying a suit case yet it still fits all the things I need. I love the organization of the pockets and pouches. By far my favorite NorthFace book bag.

I use this backpack commuting to school everyday. It's comfortable and stays secure on me when I'm running to catch the subway. Also, it easily fits all my books and school stuff. I also use this backpack when I visit my boyfriend for the weekends: I usually stuff two outfits, some school books, laptop, a few toiletries, and even a pair of shoes in here. Only downfall that I wasn't expecting was that the back is very stiff. I had been using a flimsy old Jansport for years so I wasn't used to it, but it is necessary to protect your laptop.

This is a good backpack for pretty much any of your everyday tasks. It has plenty of space, and it has lots of compartments for organization. I like the fleece lined pockets as well.

I use this bag primarily for school, but I do get outdoors frequently. I'm able to stuff two thick textbooks, along with snacks and my laptop. The laptop sleeve will fit a 15" laptop perfectly. I was surprised at how light all of my school junk felt in my bag. Durable, rugged and useful, and would purchase again.

I love this backpack so much. I am a college student so I use it everyday. It fits everything I need and has a very handy laptop sleeve in the largest pouch. The middle pocket is very handy and is full of pockets and sleeves that keep everything organized. This backpack is very durable, I'm never buying another brand of backpack ever again'

The material is great so despite the numerous heavy books that I carry from place to place, the back pack is really comfortable and durable. It hasn't given me any trouble at all, and I love that I can finally have a back pack that is sustainable.

I bought this for my son who is a sophomore in college after his "new" backpack (not NF) he got last year had a zipper malfunction. His sisters have the same Recon BP for women and have used them with no problems. One backpack is going on 7 years, the other 4 years. The unique color my son choose makes his pack stand out from the crowd of generic black ones. He says it fits his college books and computer with room to spare!

This backpack is great for carrying heavy loads. This is probably the most comfortable I've ever been carrying a laptop, charger, a huge textbook, notebooks, pens and highlighters, and other personal items. The straps are comfortable and the backpack feels like a tank in that it is so protective of the the laptop and of your shoulderblades. However, the inside is just badly designed. I can only fit one textbook in this backpack (which is good - it encourages me to carry less), but that just means that I have to hold the other one in my hands. And the second pocket is just ridiculous. It has designated space for a ipad mini tablet and a phone. What percentage of people who own this packpack also own an ipad mini? Certainly well under half. Who carries a phone deep inside a backpack? No. People carry wallets and pens and highlighters and chapstick and lotion and chargers and things like that. And the pockets are designed such that all of that stuff just kind of has to get thrown in. Very frustrating and very hard to get things you need quickly.

I loved this backpack so much! Sadly, I just had it recently stolen at school (after only 1 month of use :/ ) and I really miss it a lot. Sometimes during long drives on the highway , I still think of her (yes, it's a her), sitting on the shoulders of some miserable soul out there... But I digress, now that I'm browsing backpacks again, I figured I should review this one. I bought the grey/maroon colorway at The North Face store in Brentwood. It fit perfectly (6'1, bigger build) and always hung on comfortably. No matter how much stuffed I piled into every compartment - books, folders, notebooks, clothes, water bottles, tablets and keyboard - it always remained the same shape and didn't feel heavy like my basic Jansport would with 1/3 of things in there. Absolutely heartbroken that I don't have my backpack anymore, but I am looking forward to purchasing a new one again soon. If you are really considering purchasing a North Face bag, buy THIS backpack! Recon is the way to go, you won't regret it! Just don't lose it or you'll be left heartbroken like my lonely self, left with nothing to hold on to, but vivid reminiscence of the wonderful times spent with my beloved Recon backpack..

I bought this backpack for my highschooler and ended up having to return it because too much space was allocated to the laptop sleeve which limited the main compartment space for books & binders.

I use last year's model of this backpack daily for both work and classes. It is honestly the most comfortable backpack I have ever used, even when packed with books. After a full year of daily use, mine still looks brand new and performs like the day it shipped. I have recommended this bag to everyone I know that is looking for a bag. The straps are comfortable with the gel lining and haven't worn with daily use. If I ever need a new backpack, I'll come back to The North Face every time.
