I normally really like Vasque (they make my trail running shoes, which I love), but these just didn't fit right. I have narrow heels and wide toes, which Vasque normally caters too, but these were both too short and too wide. (Also, they're pretty ugly in person). Going back.

I've had these shoes for 10 months, and I wear them daily to walk my dog. I once wore them for a week-long hiking trip. I have inserted my own orthotics, and I consider them perfect shoes. They are comfortable and waterproof, and they are not orange.

This and the Vasque Mantra 2.0 (non-waterproof) are excellent, but a little on the roomy side. I order a 9 M and my foot slid a little in them. Comfortable in the toebox, which I appreciate. I'll note that even though this is same design as the non-waterproof version, there was a structural difference: there's additional stitching in the heel, to accommodate the Goretex materials that, for me, resulted in chafing on the inner ankle area of both feet. I'm sure it would be simple to adapt and use an adhesive tape to avoid blisters, if the shoe was what was right in the other more important areas (arch, width, etc.) but I chose another shoe instead. That doesn't mean it's bad, it just means this design / structural element ended up skewing my fit.

I owned a pair of the Vasque Mantra GTX, the original version, and they were great. I wore them on a trek across northern Italy in the summer of 2011 and had no problems whatsoever. In the early summer of 2012 those shoes were showing a lot of wear on the sole, the insole was basically gone, and there were early indications of separation between the sole and upper part of the shoe; time for a new pair. But the Mantra was no longer available so I bought a pair of the Mantra 2.0 GTX, mainly to have for trekking in Peru in early fall. The Mantra 2.0 is a mere shadow of the original. The tongue and lacing has been redesigned - for the worse. I tried these for several weeks of hiking but could not get a comfortable fit, mostly with the edges of the upper part of the tongue digging into my ankle. About 10 days before departing for Peru I bought new, third-party insoles for the original Mantra and used those for my trek. I am now back in the states and the original Mantra is falling apart after over two years of hard use. And I still cannot get comfortable fit for the Mantra 2.0. I am in the market for a new pair to have for my treks in 2013; anyone know of a good option similar to original Mantra?

This shoe is stylish, but the fit is all wrong. I ordered a size 10 to start, then 9.5, then 9. And I still couldn't find the right fit. I have bought Vasques in the past, and I've never had a problem with sizing. I'm grateful for Zappos' generous return policy.

I adore these hiking shoes. I work in Construction Management and love to hike, so I was able to get these shoes for two purposes which is awesome considering the price. If you looking for a sturdy, waterproof, good sole then these are highly recommended. I'm always between 6.5 to 7 (mostly 7 because of my wide feet), but I was definitely a 6.5 in this shoe, the 7's were too big.

I found this Mantra 2.0 gtx hiking shoe to be of the same or better quality as my first pair of Mantra gtx. The width and length also seem the same to me (I ordered a 9M both times, although I wear a 9.5 in a street shoe.) Alas, they are also just as ugly, but so sturdy on the trail!

I wear these shoes every day, and I love the comfort and support(my feet are wide w/high instep/arches) they give to my aging feet. I have ordered two extra pairs in case the shoes are discontinued. While I no longer backpack, I walk every day in comfort thanks to these Vasques.

We planned for a 15 day trip to New York and Germany the first week of December 2014. We had no idea about the weather condition in New York and parts of Germany. We went to a nearest REI store and the sales associate highly recommended the Vasque Mantra 2.0 GTX. As soon as I put them on my feet at the store, they felt like a glove I weight about 100 pounds and I am normally size 5½ for New Balance running shoes. I normally purchase half a size bigger to accommodate thicker socks by Thorlo. I highly recommend to take into account the year the review was written. You cannot compare an item that was manufactured in 2013 to the same item that was manufacture in 2014. Technology, materials and workmanship change over time for the better or worse. The Vasque Mantra 2.0 GTX did the job for my 15 day trip. The only minus was the insole. If you are planning to walk a lot, get a good quality insole. My thicker socks by Thorlo barely help. Getting size 6 felt a little lose and bigger. REI did not have my size (5½) Zappos carries my size and not only that, it delivered the shoes just in time before taking my trip. We also purchased the Vasque Mantra 2.0 for men. We were happy that the Vasque Mantra 2.0 for men had two kinds of width selection (medium or wide) If you are looking for hiking or walking shoes, I highly suggest/recommend to try them at the store to find the correct size and style shoes. If the store does not carry the size or model, Zappos will. Lastly, the style is not pretty, but the most important thing is to keep our feet happy and comfortable.

My normal shoe size is 7.5, and I don't know the difference between what is a B-width or M-width. I ordered a 7.5 but it was too much room in front of the toe. It turned out the 7 was a better fit. I took one hike, one hour so far. I feel that there is not enough material between the ball of my foot and the trail. The shoe feels too thin through that area. Not sure if I should just keep them, or apply the money to the full-fledged leather Vasque that I love so well.

I purchased the Mantra 2 GTX to replace my Salomon's XA Comp 5, as I can't find those any more, and they would have been the most comfortable shoes ever but for one thing...They are too narrow in the little toe area and I have narrow feet! So back they go. I am so disappointed. I have literally tried every brand of shoe under the sun and cannot find a pair that has it all. I am extremely impressed with Zappos, however, and their truly amazing return policy that allows me to try with no worries. It's the only place I shop for shoes for that reason. Thank you Zappos!

My original Mantras were so comfortable hiking for many years that I decided to replace them with the same when they started to wear out. The new Mantras were a bit stiff but starting to break in after a month, when the tongue of the left shoe began to dig into the top of my foot. I tried wearing them with a thick bandage, but no better. The tongue fabric had folded and caused a ridge that I could not smooth out. So, back to wearing my old ones with a longer and much more cushioned tongue.
