My French bull dog can not swim...but loves the water. I was struggling to find a life vest that fit well and that would hold up his stocky little body. After reading reviews about the float coat, I figured I would give it a try (at this point need- outweighed cost). I ordered from Zappos because I love this site for shoes! When it arrived:The float coat is by far the highest quality pup life vest I had seen; It fit extremely well and my pup could still easily walk white wearing it. We tested it out the next day and after the first dip in the water knew we had found out vest. The float coat is durable: so I feel safe about the snaps staying secure and the handle being solid. For the most part this vest will float my pup. Keep in mind my dog can't swim, and his head is like a bowling ball, so I will always be near him as he is in the water...but I feel safer knowing this vest is the best solution for him (for a dog that could swim this vest would be perfect- the way it holds their position in the water would be great for a swimmer!).

Best-made life preserver for dogs that I've seen! Don't assume because "all dogs can swim" that your best friend has the endurance to swim to safety. It's stiff, so I'm sure it's not all that comfortable for the dog - but then neither are human life preservers. But we are talking about preserving life. Note the grab handle on the back, and the reflective tape. This is truly a quality product - highly recommend.

We bought a boat and bring our 3 labs with us to our lake excursions. Though our labs are excellent swimmers, we had a hard time getting them out of the water into the boat. We bought one of these 2 try it out and LOVED it, so we bought 2 more. It's very solidly constructed, easy to put on and take off, and our dogs are totally cool with wearing them.

I have an 85 lb Goldendoodle who loves to go rafting with us (we got him a size large). His old PFD was poor quality and falling apart. This new Ruffwear PFD is a fantastic upgrade. Fits great, high quality fasteners, easy to fit/adjust. Happy rafting!

Worked out great. Fits true to size and our golden retriever seemed very comfortable in it. I liked knowing she was safe in case of an accident since she kayaks with us.

This is a GREAT swim vest. Our 1 yr old Goldendoodle loves to swim BUT her back side stayed low in the water. We put the vest on her (it didn't take long for her to be comfortable in it) and she swam like a champ! Her tail was up and wagging the whole time. The wide one piece that goes under the body has 2 clips and is adjustable. It is easy to put on and the handle makes it easy to get her back on the boat. Our dog is 47 lbs and the size M fit perfect.

It fits well. We got a small for our frenchie and probably could have gone down to an extra-small. He's 21 inches around the chest. We haven't tried it in the water yet.

I have only heard good things about this K-9 Float Coat and it has exceeded my expectations. Fit my dog wonderfully and stays put. Purchased for my dog to wear on our boat just in case. He is a great swimmer but it's always good to be safe. Handle on the back is very convenient to pull him back in the boat when he goes swimming.

Great quality life jacket. I bought this for my 13 year old German Shepherd and it has been amazing to know that she can swim as far as she wants and if she gets tired she will be safe. I bought the XL for her, she weighs about 90lbs but it is loose on her. I still kept it because I would prefer that there is breathing room and it still does its job. I highly recommend this Ruffwear Float Coat.

Well worth the money, this Float Coat saved my dogs life! I recently took my yorkie, Enzo on a very leisurely float of one of our local rivers. As we were floating, we got caught in a random strainer that I didn't notice. We flipped, and in the water we both went. Had Enzo not been wearing his yellow Float Coat, I'm positive I would not have been able to see & rescue him as quickly. This Ruffwear Float Coat is so far the BEST purchase I've made for Enzo. The construction & durability is excellent, the built-in handle is extremely helpful, and I'm sure I'll make use of the light loop as the days get shorter. If you care about your dog, and your dog loves the water, get this. $80 is a very small price compared to the life of a loved pet.

Great! Followed size recommendations. My dog loves it. It keeps her cool and safe on the boat and allows me to let her go swimming and pick her back into the boat with the handle. AWESOME product. WORTH the money!

True to sizing measurements, easy to fit, and comfortable enough that they wore them all day at the beach without complaint (2 large labs). Great to be able to hang on to them in the water on on the boat! Best purchase we've made for the boys!

Love this float coat. Medium was a perfect fit for our 55-lb doggie. Great quality, well made.

This life jacket is fantastic. It's extremely sturdy and rugged, and the color is bright and pretty. My dog is about 65 lbs and wears a large.

We got one of these each for our dogs to accompany us on rides in the inflatable kayak. The first time out I was able to use the handle to "persuade" my lab not to jump out of the boat, as we weren't in a place where he could have easily gotten back in. It was plenty sturdy and like all Ruffwear products I have used well made and will likely be durable. There were a few different adjustments that allow the vest to be customized for the shape of your dog. I was somewhat surprised on how well the dogs tolerated the new vests, on the first time out.

Ruffwear comes through again with great quality and fit. My dog doesn't even seem to know he's wearing this vest, it's so comfortable. It is a little pricey but very worth it. I highly recommend it.

The Ruffwear Float Coat is the absolute best! We enrolled our American Cocker Spaniel into swimming lessons and I attribute part of the success of the lessons to this Float Coat! We summer in the South (Charleston, SC) where it's often too hot to walk our dog even in the early morning or late evening - we thought swimming would be a great outlet to exercise and cool off our dog as well as build his confidence. But last summer when we tried swimming with our dog in a pool, he was not a fan. So we enrolled him in swimming at our pet daycare facility and they use this exact coat. The coat seemed to give our dog the confidence he needed without any feeling of discomfort. After 4 lessons he's jumping into the pool on his own. I attribute 50% of this to the instructor and 50% to the Float Coat which gives him the confidence he lacked last summer to feel comfortable in the water. To compare, he hates wearing a coat in the snow for walks but he doesn't seem to mind the Float Coat at all. He has a substantial skirt and the coat & buckles don't matte or knot his fur while the handle allows the instructor & us to lift and lower him into the water. You would think he's a lab now with how much he likes the water and how confident he is. He's nearly 30 lbs. and the small fits him perfectly. I really applaud the Float Coat for being so popular with both dogs & owners alike - this product is really excellent.

This is an excellent piece of equipment. It gives my dogs the extra buoyancy they need to let them swim in the lake as much as they like. Both dogs (one small and big chested, the other medium and athletic) do not appear to mind the vest, they go about their day as if the vest were not there, showing no signs of discomfort. I did have to adjust how I pull my medium sized dog out of the water on the back of the boat because his body would slip out the back of the vest. It only took a slight adjustment on my part. I still highly recommend the vest.

Loving it! I did some research on the best life vests for dogs and for medium/large dogs I read that Ruffwear's fit the best. The advice was to take your dog and have them try it on in person (in dog?) before buying but I couldn't resist the convenience of buying online. I assumed my dog would need a large because she's deep-chested and a little tubby but I bought a medium based on my dog's measurements and the brand's recommended sizing. It arrived quickly (thanks, Zappos!) and fits like a charm. As I'd read on other sites, the jacket is adjustable and I was able to adjust the straps so that it fit my dog really well. I was surprised that there is an internal adjustable strap at the neck -- took me a minute to figure out how to widen the head opening but it's a good thing they have that because our dog has quite a big head so we needed a bigger opening to get the vest on and off. When adjusted, the straps on the belly fit snugly but did not seem to rub or irritate our dog at all. She wore the life vest during a canoe ride for four hours and didn't seem to mind wearing the jacket at all. In fact, we left it on while taking a break on land and our dog went about her business and tried to roll in cow manure with it on. Yuck. My husband appreciated how sturdy the handle is on the vest and feels like he can easily lug all 75 pound of her into the canoe if needed. Can't speak to how well she stays afloat because she didn't go deeper than she can stand in the water. But the life jacket gives me such peace of mind when we're on the water and she looks so darn cute! Highly recommended.
