So every thing is made cheaper, smaller & of less quality and that includes New Balance's 1012's. They changed the wide toe box shielded by a protective cover to just mesh and the tongue is stuffed with foam. This shoe isn't worth buying; if you run cross country, try something else.

Stylish, however I did not like the way the heel felt while walking. When you plant your heel as you walk, it feels like the surface is not exactly level. The sole also feels a bit hard.

I have been running in NB shoes for over ten years and was excited to try the new 1012 cross trainer because it would work for lateral exercises as well. When I got it I tried a plyo workout I had been doing in my old 1012's and Brooks Beast. After the first workout I had incredible knee pain but I was very hopeful for this shoe so I kept it and tried multiple inserts to bring the arch up. No such luck. Unfortunately when new balance redesigned it they made it into something completely opposite of what it was. I guess I am going to be a Brooks Beast runner from now on. If you have flat feet or fallen arches do not get this shoe. Go to the 1540 or one of the newer models they have just released but I only recommend Brooks to people I run with since this experience. The customer service and shipping was top notch from Zappos.

I ordered this MX1012 to replace my old pair of MX1012. I needed the wide size 6e and this is one of the few available. But although it is the same number it is not the same shoe or shoe style. The older 1012 was a wide front but the new is just a regular narrow style with a wide size label. So not true to size at all.

This was supposed to be the upgrade from the #1009 model. Disappointed in the fit of this new #1012 -- always have chosen New Balance for their wide toe box. This new design has a too narrow toe box for my foot. Didn't feel the quality was the same, either.
