Great shoe and great service from Zappos! I ordered a size too large and Zappos sent me another size, the next day! Dealing with their customer service was actually an enjoyable experience! The shoes are great as well! Stylish and comfortable! Worth the price!

This boot appears well-made. Although it requires breaking in, I found it remarkably comfortable out of the box for a leather-soled shoe. Chukkas often run long. I wear a 10 and have a medium width foot. On advice from a call to Frye, I ordered a 9 1/2 and have found the fit spot on. The tan antique leather comes with a musty powder sort of finish that I chose to remove by polishing with a cloth. I would imagine that the finish would wear off with time in any event.

I bought these for my 23 year old son for Christmas with the only details provided by him was that he wanted chukka boots. Since I have several pairs of Frye boots, and have always appreciated their high quality, I went with this pair. The color is also very nice and will go with black, brown, grey, denim, etc. My son was very pleased with my choice. These boots are also good because they can go from casual to a more dressed up look. As far as size goes, Frye boots have also seemed true to me, so based on my son's comments, these are as well. If he takes care of these boots, they will last years and the style is classic as well. Zappos, as always, delivered quickly as promised.

These boots look great and they are pretty comfortable for a leather sole shoe. They do seem to be true to size. I ordered a 1/2 size smaller than I normally wear based on many of the reviews on here and they are a tad too small. It is close so it isn't obvious until you have had them on your feet for at least an hour or two. I would recommend these boots - and in your normal size.

Thanks to the other reviews, I ordered a half size smaller than my regular size and it was a perfect fit! Great boot. Stiff at first, but molded to my foot by walking around the house for an hour. The antique black is a bit different from the picture, but I still like it. I'm sure these will only get better looking with age. I'll be ordering another color also! As usual, the Zappos service was amazing. Ordered on Monday, and they were on my doorstep at 3 PM on Tuesday! I don't know how you guys do it!

This was an awesome chukka boot, one of the best I've ever seen/tried. The leather is pleasingly soft, the style is awesome. My size for this boot is half a size smaller than normal, and unfortunately that size is out of stock, but I'm quite enamored of these boots, for sure.

Gorgeous. fit well, very supportive. Bottom of shoes leather - good for dancin'! Must use a clear polish to avoid ruining the black/grey coloration.

A really well made shoe top to bottom. Soft as a glove leather. However I have a narrow foot and could not make it work. If Frye comes out with a B width I am a buyer for sure.

I love these shoes! They are really comfortable. They are dressy enough to wear for work yet can still be worn with jeans. I did have to go down half a size.
Great shoes that I expect to wear for years to come!
My only complaint is the slippery sole which isn't great for Chicago winters. They do make another version with a rubber sole, but it makes the shoe look so much more casual I decided to go with this one.

Great boots. I got them for travel to Moscow Russia in the fall time. I had lots of doubts but they turned out to be great. I walked about 5-8 miles per day every day and had those boots on all the time. Metro riding was just fine, no tiredness. Museum walk fantastic. And bumpy cobblestones of the Red Square I did not feel them...no bumps. Extremely comfortable, no breaking down required. And what was a really great about these boots they are very easy to take off. Especially it came very handy in the plane. I simply love those boots.

This is a classy shoe that I've been wearing to work with slacks and dark jeans at night. Break-in time is minimal. A bit loose in the heel but overall a good fit and super stylish.

Very cool boots, very firm, feel like expensive cowboy boots, really nice leather.
One of them developed a squeak after 6 months, I called Zappos, and they exchanged them no questions.
All good!

Shoes are awesome. Great on the feet great on the street. You will love these. Don't whine, just get a 1/2 size smaller and they'll fit perfect.

These shoes are everything they were advertised to be. They are high quality and comfortable. It is great to know that there are still products being crafted and sold that meet or exceed one's expectations! These shoes do run a tad on the large side. I learned this from another review before I ordered. I normally wear a size 11 so I ordered half a size smaller and they fit perfectly. The width is normal.

Don't be a duck-a, buy the Frye Chukka. They are way cool, fit well, and are very easy to restore to new with a brass bristle brush. Took these dogs to the UK, and they were smashing. Price was fair too. I actually visited Church Shoes and bought a pair of oxfords . . . quite a few pound sterling . . . worth it, but their chukka is not a nice and cost more than Frye's. That kind of money can keep you from the gallows pole . . . in other words Zappos can't be beat.

If you are someone who doesn't like paying too much for things, then you don't have to worry about these shoes. All the bang for the buck. The leather is top quality, the stitching is top quality, and they are comfortable! Short break in period.

These shoes look great. The only problem is they ran very large for me. I normally wear size 8.5, but I had to get a size 7 to fit me. I found the top edges are a bit hard at first, especially if you wear low cut socks. But otherwise, they have been a pleasure to wear.

I bought the Frye James Chukka in the Dark Brown Soft Vintage Leather finish. It is an absolutely beautiful shoe. High quality with a stitched leather sole. Will work with a suit or let 'em get skuffed a little and wear with jeans. I hope to keep these a long time and resole rather than trash when the time comes. (I hope this soft upper holds up). I believe these run a half size large. I wear an 8 1/2 and normal width, and the 8 fits me fine. This design also has a longer narrow toe-space. So maybe someone with a narrow foot might want more than 1/2 size smaller because they could slide further forward in the shoe(?) The leather sole will feel slippery on the first day you wear it, but after one day with some outside walking it is fine. And like all leather-soled shoes, you will probably have to wear it like ten full days to get the sole to form to your foot. If you are used to rubber shoes this may come as a surprise. ;-)

I bought these and had to return them because the actual product I received did not match the photography. The boots in the photo look more "worn in" than they actually are. The finish appears to be painted on so be aware of this when purchasing. I didn't liker them but that's just my opinion. that being said, returning them was very easy.

So far I am pleased with this shoe. Not too big and clunky and very sturdy. In fact, perhaps too sturdy as it took two months to really break them in. But this shoe has been my go to shoe for going out at night. The already rugged look makes me feel less guilty when it gets scuffed up. By the way, the white distressed color fades pretty fast. If you are looking for a more sleeker elegant shoe, this is not for you. The shoes more geared toward an urban feel. The leather isn't as form fitting or as comfortable as say Ferragamo, but you are paying at least half the cost. Just be careful about the size. I normally wear an 8.5 but had to get a 7 for this shoe.

This is a good looking and comfortable Chukka, however I have discovered I need additional arch support. If your feet are sensitive, I'd look for something else.

I am surprised to see the positive reviews on this shoe especially in regards to comfort. I was not happy with them when I first purchased them, but I figured that they needed time to break in. I put a lot of credence into the Frye name and the price of the boot and felt that it would be worth the wait.
I was surprised by the bloom or 'spew' on the boots when I got them. I was not familiar with what it was initially.
so after owning these boots for over a year and a half, I still do not find them to be comfortable. I wear them occasionally, but I wish I like them more--especially given their cost. Maybe I should have take the advice others have giving and purchased a half size lower.
I would definitely shy away from purchasing Frye boots again given this experience.

I was very disappointed in these boots. The look great and seem to be high quality material and construction, but they are just not comfortable. I've had them for a long time now and I thought they would break in, but no such luck. I spent way too much on these to not love wearing them. I always get compliments on their looks, however. I just wish the felt as good as they look!

I hate these shoes. They were expensive and the most uncomfortable shoe I own. While they are well made, I have no idea how long it will take to break in. The leather is so hard, I'm getting blisters on my heel and top of my toe. I continue to wear them as I hope they will eventually break in before my blisters bleed.

I love the look of this shoe, and despite some discomfort with breaking it in it's ultimately a very practical and comfortable shoe. Unfortunately, the soles didn't last three months before there were holes worn in the bottom. Zappos customer service was impeccable over the issue; they sent me a new pair within a day of reporting the problem and I'm wearing them now. Unfortunately (again), the problem is still occurring. The symptoms of the sole wearing through are already apparent and I expect there will be holes in the bottom again in a month or two. I like the shoes enough to have them resoled when they ultimately wear through, but I find this to be unacceptable with a shoe that costs this much. I expect to pay for quality at that price point, but the weakness of the soles seem to be a fundamental design flaw. I would not recommend buying this shoe.
