These are strictly made to get wet. Fish net pockets eat keys, otherwise, they appear to be made to shed water. Built in snap buckle belt will hold up your shorts, don't clip on any weight such as a phone. I wish I had seen these in store first, best use on around water, as usual were your other shorts when on dry land with your wallet, phone etc...

The shorts are light weight and comfortable. The problems; the belt buckle is hard to unlatch and the belt is very slippery so when I tighten it it just slides back out. To few belt loops, the belt tends to fall out when unbuckled. The front pockets are mesh and anything like a key gets stuck in the holes. Every time companies release a new version of this type of shorts the pockets get smaller. The zipper on the fly is hard to slide as well as the pocket zipper.

Bought two pair one in tusk and one in grill. The waist was not the same in both. The tusk was smaller although they are both listed as the same size.

As usual, Columbia sizes their clothing much smaller than it actually is. I purchased this in what I thought would fit me just fine. I wear all of my other jeans and shorts in a 33-34 waist and have no problems with other companies' sizing. When I received this short in 34" waist, I couldn't even get it up to my waist. It's like they made this short for a man with a 34" waist, but designed the rest of the short for somebody with a 29" waist. The legs were far to tight to even consider. Once I could actually pull it up to where I could button it, the waist size was correct, but it's far to small in the legs and butt to even be considered comfortable, let alone be used for hiking.

I guess the model that's wearing them has massive thighs because when I put these on they flair out so bad that I won't wear them out in public!!!

I ordered a 38, and I swear they were at best a 34! Plus the material was very thin. Much better options available…

The back pocket stitching in 2 pairs of these came out in 2 months. Both have holes now in back pockets where the mesh pockets meet the exterior material. Don't buy until they fix this problem.

Great looking shorts. I was complimented day one when I wore them out side the other day. Nice color too. Not a full cut short for the man who needs some room and loose feeling. I'm a 39 waist and I purchased a 40. Too tight!

Aloha,
Love the shorts just not the last 2 purchased. Side cargo pocket ! There was only 1 & it was a straight up & down design that was horrible. Did not fit much & things always falling out occupy forgot to zip it. Poor design to say the least. Who thought of it? Speak to them about this. Will never pay your prices for poor quality again....
Mahalo for your time.

The pockets are lined with a thin mesh material. All I carried was a set of keys. They tore through the lining in two days.
The Permit Short is similar and I have owned several pairs of those with no problems.

I have bought these exact shorts a few years ago and thought they were great, but the new ones are constructed very well, but the pockets are worthless, except for the one cargo pocket with the zipper. My old shorts had a zippered pocket for money or keys, then the back pocket was zippered for wallet, then both cargo pockets were zippered, kept my stuff very safe. The new pockets are terrible, I have had my wallet fall out, I have had my money clip fall out, I have had my keys fall out. If you don't plan on carrying anything in your pockets the shorts are good.

The Silver Ridge Cargo shorts fit well and are quite comfortable on those long hikes, however the quality and functionality is far inferior to Columbia's previous hiking shorts.
*The cargo pockets do not expand.
*Security pocket (only One) is on the left side making it more difficult to open and use for right handed folks like me and the other 85% of the population.
*There are no pull tabs on the zippers heads thereby drastically reducing their functionality.
*Zippers require two hands for opening and closing as where previous models could be worked efficiently with one hand.
*The elastic on the waist line is minimal.
*The belt loops are okay for Levis but not nearly wide enough for hiking shorts. Such a design flaw eventually allows the belt to ride up against the flesh.
*The Velcro tabs on the front pockets are minimal and as a result require too much attention to secure while on the move.
I would rather pay half again as much and get a great pair of hiking shorts as Columbia once produced... especially when you consider they are going to be with you for many years in the future.

From year to year, can't count on size to fit. Changes all the time. Of course styles change, but the cargo pockets the basic water short which have served me years aren't there.

Really disappointed - ultra light weight - almost like chiffon - not for outdoor guys. Worst still I had to pay UPS $10 to return them.

The description of these shorts states that the leg opening is 22 inches. The leg opening is 26 inches. If you like bell bottoms you'll like these. Zappos needs to provide accurate descriptions, otherwise buying something on the internet is a waste of time.

My objection is to the material these shorts are made from. It is very flimsy. They are thinner than a pair of swim trunks. When you get on a scale wearing them they will add nothing to your weight.
