Warm Balaclava, but it loses shape and elasticity very quickly. I’ve worn it only a few times but it has definitely lost its original shape.

I love the fit, but wind cuts right through it. The neck gator is double layer 250. I don't understand why this one is only single layer. If it were double layer, it would be perfect.

I own one of these and it's great. It's too thin to wear on its own, but perfect for a base layer underneath a warm hat and neck-gaiter. I wear it in very cold sub-10-degree weather. I ordered another from Zappos as a backup, since my husband keeps stealing mine. Unfortunately the one I received is tiny, much smaller than the one I already have. Not sure if it's supposed to be a child's size, or if Smartwool decided to skimp on a batch, or what. Unfortunately, I'll be returning it.

I am a rural meter reader in Minnesota.... Last year I bought the Balaclava you create.... I wished the item was a Heavier Net.... The wind chills here can be a tad nasty....

I had never worn one of these before and I was not very sure I would like the experience of having (most of) mt face covered. This Thermal Merino Balaclava from SmartWool is comfortable and warm and after a couple of minutes I no longer feel it is there. Nice suprise!

It was very thin and works under a helmet.

To wear to keep My head warm with the ski helmet and kept moist out and it fit good but felt it's too thin in my opinion.

Love this! I returned a different Smartwool balaclava because it wouldn't stay up on my nose. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Smartwool was kind enough to give me a credit for the other balaclava so this was no more out of pocket money. Very happy with this product and their customer service.

warm under my helmet

I use this item at work. It is a perfect combination of lightweight and warmth.

I work the Northern Border and stay warm with my Smartwool gear.

I use this under a snowmobile helmet, and it is great because it is far more form fitting than others I've tried (which bunch up and/or slide down over my eyes).

Bought this as a gift for my son. He is stoked on it. Wore it hunting this winter

Great item. Valuable to me. very. Not too heavy or bulky. Helps moisture management during exertion. I hate cold from drying sweat, wind or cold; this item really solves cold. When really cold, I wear under a hat . useful when windy or if you are camping out; covers head and neck.When cycling, critical item for wearing under my too-breezy helmet. Small. easily folded into a pocket. Easily laundered. I hang mine to dry. dries fast too. Keeps carotid arteries covered (those two on your throat) You can also wear glasses, as garment does not interfere. Glad to see lighter color. Black color harsh against face. Covers cold sores on lip too. Keeps solar radiation off face. Only con is this item really makes short, female hair look weird or flat. But, who really cares? A warm head and neck to me more important than cosmetics.

I bought this to replace a Nike balaclava. There's not enough space to say how much I enjoy this over the Nike balaclava, but his balaclava fits a lot better.

Fits perfect and very comfortable.

The "THERMAL MERINO BALACLAVA", works great for cold weather and winter bike riding along with the "ACTIVE FLEECE WIND HEADBAND", and...THERMAL MERINO REVERSIBLE CUFFED BEANIE" or "Creek Run Beanie" .I use all three when riding, and when it gets really cold and windy I put the "Seirus NeoFleece Combo Scarf" on too :-) That usually happens when the wind is over 12-15 mph and chill temp is around zero (with the temp/wind taken into account). I ride 10 miles almost daily in the winter so I've had lots of practice finding what works..Yes..I have studded snow tires on my bike. I also have on clear safety glasses or my "POC" ski goggles for the wind cold/wind too. It's almost always windy in the winter when I ride in Northern Idaho :-)

I cannot ski or walk the dog without this under my helmet or hat because I live at 10,000 ft. It's the most perfect product smartwool ever mad and thrilled it came in baby blue this year!

Nice and lightweight. My 12 years old son can carry it in his jacket pocket without the bulk like other brands. He also slept in it during a 25 degrees scout camping trip. It kept him warm and comfy at night.
