When I unwrapped the shoes for my wife, I thought the leather was gouged/ripped along the sole. Turns out it was stray glue from affixation of the sole. Some undyed leather is visible along the edge of the sole. My wife likes the shoes, but I don't think they are worth the price. They feel flimsy. It's amazing the garbage women put up with in the fashion world. It's as if everything was made for the look rather than function. I did, however, buy her a set of Born leather clogs in 2001 which seem sturdy and have held up wonderfully.

Wonderful shoes. I've never worn shoes that have no break in pain at all. So comfortable and so stylish as well.

Like many of the other reviewers, I have been looking for an oxford-type shoe that would be comfortable for work (teaching, so always on my feet) but not too man-ish. I'm so happy I found these! Unlike a lot of the alternatives, they have a rubber sole with good traction and pretty decent support inside. I got the 'walnut leather' and they look like high quality, well-made shoes. MY only caveat: I have wider feet and I would definitely say that these shoes run a little narrower than even some other 'medium' width shoes I have. I ordered both a 9 and an 8.5 to check and the 8.5 (my normal size) was definitely too small in length and width. But the 9 fit ok on the first try and they have stretched well to fit my feet, plus light socks, since then. This is my only pair of Born shoes, so I'm not sure how normal that is for their brand. Overall - definite 5 stars. I love them!

I love these shoes! I put them on the minute they arrived and wore them around the house all evening. They were comfortable and cute. I can't wait to wear them to work!

I have a dozen or more Born shoes; it's all I wear because I have a very narrow foot and I also need extra insole support for arthritis. Since I know Born runs a half size small and is narrow, I order accordingly, but if you've never bought a Born shoe before, you should order a half size larger if you plan to go barefoot or wear stockings and a full size if you want to wear socks. If you are a wide medium, you might need a full size more than usual, but I know from considerable experience that the brand runs a half size small...always. I was a 7N when I wore dress shoes with stockings. I am consistently a 7.5 in Born and for an inexplicable reason, I had to get an 8 for open toe shoes (sandals). As for this particular shoe, my husband talked me into buying the metallic leather. I was very hesitant about this; much flashier than my norm, and I think he's trying to "brighten" me up. I have another pair of tie Borns that are not as dressy as this shoe and I ended up with an 8 in it, the only 8 I have besides sandals, but I wanted to wear socks in it. I bought a 7.5 and an 8 in this shoe since I wasn't sure sock or not, and am keeping the 7.5. My husband the stylist convinced me to wear it with "sparkly" knee hi stockings to dress up my winter pants with some pizazz. The shoe is solid in structure; not soft and buttery. It has a thin rubber sole that is flexible and comfortable. As with all my Born purchases, I am very pleased. And, I'm glad I got the metallic leather. It expanded my shoe wardrobe in a direction it needed to go. It's really quite attractive. Quality isn't an issue with Born. I've never been disappointed. The issue is whether to go up a half size or a full size. If you're sure you will wear socks, I think you'll need a full size more than in other brands. Otherwise, a half size is a good match. But, it is a very narrow shoe and whether or not you plan to wear socks or go barefoot is important in deciding what size to order.

I wear anywhere between 7 and 8.5 depending on brand and type of shoe. These shoes are really comfortable, and run a little narrow but don't pinch. I bought an 8.5, which works with thick socks, but I think I could have gotten away with an 8 and still felt comfortable, since the leather is so soft. I got these for work, and they're cute! I like the velvet laces too, a nice touch (comes with regular laces as well).

I have narrow feet and normally wear a 7N. I got these in a 6.5M and they fit perfectly. My heels are extremely narrow and sometimes, even in the narrow width shoes, will slip up and down on my heel. Not these shoes! The rubber sole is great and stable. The shoes were comfortable right out of the box. I wear them barefoot and no rubbing or blisters. If you have a normal width or wide foot I would go up 1/2 or a whole size. Love Born shoes but I think they are more on the narrow side than most brands. Zappos service is super awesome!

These shoes are SO comfy! I put them on right out of the box today with no socks and comfortably rolled right into work in style! Great construction, support and leather. A+ love 'em!

Very comfortable funky shoe - I needed something stylish to walk in and I found it! I bought the savanna metallic. I am 8.5 and they fit perfectly, but if you want to wear with socks you might consider getting half a size bigger. Gosh I love the way this shoe feels and looks on my foot - I want to buy the brown ones also - for office wear - when they go on sale. Well done Born.

Saw the gold distressed oxford and had to have them! Super cute to dress down or up, and of course they are comfy. I work in a pretty conservative office, and I haven't been bold enough to wear them to work yet....but I might slip them in on a Friday. The only style draw back is the sole not having that "lip" that goes around the shoe, its flush with edge of the shoe. Just makes it a little different from a typical oxford.

I bought these in black and they were extremely comfortable. I bought them for an upcoming trip to France, figured they are classy, versatile, and comfortable. Unfortunately, there was a flaw with the seam at the toe so I had to send them back. The other unfortunate part is that Zappos no longer has the black show in stock. I think Zappos needs better Quality control to avoid shipping defective shoes to their customers. I am waiting for it to hopefully come back in stock!

These shoes are not as comfortable as I expected but they do okay for a day on your feet. I love the look of them and they work with a wide range of outfits: dresses, skirts, pants.

I bought these as I have 6 1/2 D sized feet, and many of Born's size 7 shoes fit my feet. I had hoped to find a pair in a shade I don't have yet. The brown shade polishes up nicely with regular shoe polish. They look great with all my winter pants, jeans and skirts.

I ordered these because I own a pair of Born in a sort of bowling shoe style that are marvelously comfortable. These charcoal ones are stylish but I had to return them because one fit and the other was uncomfortable on the inner toe box. The color looks nearly black and very versatile. I wish I could have kept them. I wear a 7 W or 8 M but these just didn't work for me. For those who don't have difficulty finding a perfect fit, Arletta may be just what you are looking for. Zappos service is top-notch and I will continue to be a customer.

These shoes were super comfortable right out of the box. I wasn't a big fan of the velvet laces, so I was pleased to find that a pair of regular laces was included in the box. While I loved the menswear-inspired style, the toe of the shoe was longer than it appears in the picture. While this didn't interfere with the fit, it made my size 9 feet look like I was wearing clown shoes. Both my husband and I thought they looked great with pants, but I was hoping to wear them with shorts and crop pants as well so, unfortunately, back they go. Maybe on a smaller foot they wouldn't look quite so long and awkward.

Oh how I loved these shoes. I wish I could have made them work. I normally wear a 6M, the length was fine, but they do run narrow. But more of a problem was my high instep, I could not get the shoes laced. Very sad, they are so cute!

I just got these today and sadly they came with the toes already scuffed in several spots from being worn, a stain on the toe, and different shoelaces from what are pictured. :(

I'm very happy with my recent purchase of Born Arletta. I ordered the 6 1/2 and found them to be quite narrow at first, so I ordered the 7. The 7 seemed too big, so I decided to take the plunge and assume the 6 1/2 would stretch out. I'm happy to report that after just one day of wearing them, they stretched out. Even managed to wear some socks (not super thin, just regular) and with no blisters. Walked around with my kids all day and they were perfect. Happy to have a new pair of comfortable but stylish shoes!

These shoes have potential, but I found that they run small. I always wear and 9, and when I pulled them out of the box, I thought Zappos had sent a 8. Nope. It's a 9. I was able to cram my foot in to see that they looked cute with jeans, cute enough to try again a half size up.

Extremely comfortable, and looks great. The support could be better, but the comfort wins. The service from Zappos was excellent.

Very comfortable right out of the box, not stiff and no break in needed. Stylish, I get a lot of complements. The toe box has just the right amount of wiggle room, heels are not loose, overall, this is worth of owning.

It's hard to find a comfortable pair of flats that aren't made poorly and aren't horribly narrow. The Born Arletta fit the bill! I ordered them in charcoal and was very pleased. I didn't realize they came with two laces: one velvet and one "regular" round cord. They are very comfortable and look super cute with rolled up jeans and also with skirts.

Very comfortable fit as you would expect from Born. Color is good for fall, laces are black ribbon type material, gives shoes a polished look. Didn't think I would like the ties, but they were nice. The Arletta is a men's inspired shoe, meaning the toe of the shoe is long. When you wear a size 9 shoe, that is the last look you desire. So for that alone, I'm returning.
