Unfortunately, Merrell seems to have a quality problem with their shoes. This is the third pair of defective Merrell Loess shoes I've had to return, which is too bad because I really like the shoes. The stitching began to fall apart on the first two pairs in less than a week, and now I've owned this pair for less than a week, and the left shoe has developed a loud squeaking noise. The noise has gotten progressively worse, and yesterday my wife and I are walking the dogs in town, and she turns to tell me that I sound like the tin-man walking: very annoying. When a pair of shoes cost this much they should not squeak with every step.

This is a comfortable shoe for casual office dress and walking a short distance to work.

Comfortable fit and good casual look right out of the box. As always, super service from Zappos!

These are the best casual shoes I've ever owned. Bot them for a month long trip to Europe and 100% satisfied.

I wanted a pair of shoes comfortable as a sneaker; black; water protected on the bottom and sides; and comfortable for walking around Europe to 2 weeks next spring. I ordered 8 different pairs from Zappos & tried them all on. Hands down these were the winner. I've worn them for the last 3 weeks and the comfort is perfect. Also the curved design tends to keep you moving - your foot sort of rolls forward with your forward movement.

Got these for my husband -- he wanted to "upgrade" from his Merrell day hikers for everyday shoes to wear to the office, as well as daily dog-walking, etc. He loves them so far. They're a good cross between comfortable walking shoes and shoes to wear with jeans or khakis. As always, Merrell is comfortable with good arch support. The olive color is a nice hybrid that can be worn with khaki, grey, black, and denim.

These shoes are great. Perhaps because I'm in socks or Five Fingers most of the time I found that the molded insoles that came with the shoes had excessive arch support, so I replaced them with flat Spenco cushioned insoles that I trimmed around the built-in arch. It was an easy fix and I really like these shoes.

My boyfriend had been keeping an eye on these for weeks, and I finally ordered them for him. So far so good. He is happy to have them for hiking, but is glad they will go with his everyday clothes as well. He says they are comfortable as can be, and they have great traction as well.

Quite comfortable, though I'm disappointed that Merrell used orange leather inside the shoe at the heel as it stains my socks orange every time I wear them.

At the time of this review, I've owned the Merrell Loess about 4 weeks. Very comfortable shoe right out of the box. Seems true to size with a little extra room in the toe box, supportive arch but not extreme. Like the style and have received several compliments. I was skeptical at first because there does not seem to be much construction to the sole/footbed, but they are light and comfy and my feet do not feel tired after wearing them all day - like most of my everyday shoes do. I have worn them to work and done some light hiking - no complaints on fit or function. Small downside that I was not expecting is the very leathery smell of this shoe. It looks like the leather is that oiled type that you might see on hats worn by Crocodile Dundee. Not a big deal but I have never owned a pair of shoes made from this type leather. It appears to hold up well to weather and doesn't hold dirt or dust. Another small issue is the very edge of rubber rand is separating from the leather uppers between the toe box and the arch - where the shoe flexes most. If it separates significantly more, then I will call Merrell or Zappos.

Comfortable shoe with good wet weather sole. Works good as casual or business casual. I liked them enough that I bought second pair.

Very handsome shoes in the dusty olive color with good attention to detail throughout. As noted in other reviews, I found width a bit wider than standard in the toe box area, making for excellent use with thicker wool socks for foul and cold weather wear. Arch seemed a bit higher than I'm used to and with thinner socks pressed against my foot.

Nice shoes, but run really big. I take a 7.5 in most brands, 8 in New Balance and some others. But these shoes in size 7 were still too big - significantly bigger than my NB size 8s. Also, lack of tongue-centering loop is a problem for people like me whose feet tend to send the tongue way over to the side where it's useless.

I really like these shoes and if you are used to flat hard dress shoes you'll love these. They are more cushioned but not as well as I am used to from other merrels that I wear like cross trainers. But thats sort of irrelevant -- they are still very nice shoes and are more comfortable than most other dresser shoes.

I've become very disappointed with the quality of Merrell products. These are the third pair of shoes that I've had problems with.

One of the most comfortable shoes out there, but have an issue with a separation problem. As noted in other reviews, the side of the shoe is separating from the leather and the upper part of the sole. A replaced pair fared no better as it also separated on the first few steps. Really like the style and comfort, but the issue with quality control is dismaying.

I loved the look of the shoes, but found it very uncomfortable. The backs were high and I got blisters after only a short time wearing them. Had to send them back.

So so quality. On closer inspection they look and feel more like water shoes than city walkers.

Leather upper and rubber separated at the "crease point" on two pairs of these that I tried. Shoes were very comfortable and I love the style and color (dusty olive), but I was not satisfied with the quality.

Merrell is one of my favorite types of shoes. They always fit great and last a long time. After less then a month of wearing these shoes the rubber edging came away from leather. Very disappointed.

I loved the style and feel of these shoes, but the laces are totally worthless. Within two months of buying them the laces tore and they are an odd color/texture combination that makes it impossible to find replacements. I even contacted Merrell directly and they were not able to help out. I have owned a lot of Merrell shoes and the shoes always outlast the laces but this is first time I have ever had them break so quickly and impossible to replace. Save yourself the headache, get a different brand.

Bought these a summer and fall jean shoe and they are great in this way. Very comfortable and light. Not much support or padding, but a nice low profile. Never see any locally so you seem to have to buy these online.

I liked the shoes. They fit well (wider fit than expected) and are very comfortable. There was a quality problem after only a few wearings. The sole started delaminating from the side of the shoe! I am returning this pair for a replacement.

These are great shoes but did anyone test them? They squeak with every step. I think Merrell is one of the best shoes on the market. I have been wearing Merrells for over 20 years. Someone was sleeping on this one. How do you get money back on squeaky shoes? The tin man said it best oil. I will continue to buy Merrells but please do not let me waste anymore money. Have the designer try the shoes before they hit the market.
